Under the Skin (2013)
An original take of alien, android, landscape, and genesis
Sheer outrage of giving this masterpiece of film work a 6.6. I think aside from understanding the subtext and visual symbolize an audience needs to feel as Robert Bresson said, "feel a film before understanding it." I feel because of the 6.6 scale a lot of people are not introduced with it.
The film is both haunting, beautiful, mesmerizing, cruel, strange, very much life itself. Humanity seen through the eyes of an alien (or droid?). Even the landscape is very alienated by visualization in great appeal. Scarlett Johansson plays a creature at first a puppet but slowly trying to understand what human life and lust is. Johansson plays with intimacy along with being foreign which makes the role perfect for her. Under The Skin is a prime example of cinematic perfection, it's visuals unlike anything I've witnessed before and the sound design suitably complementing the mystery. An intelligent take on it's concept
