The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Season 1, Episode 3
Hits harder than expected
23 March 2023
I had read the reviews, the criticism and the love. Heard the podcast and thought I knew what to expect. But I didn't expect the episode to hit quite as hard as it did.

At first sight this episode does little to lend itself to Ellie and Joel's plot. But sometimes, it's ok to have an episode that is on the surface just a beautiful episode.

It actually gives us a brilliant glimpse into what it takes to survive outside of the QZ. How our lives would be transformed by this event and over the entire time period too.

There were moments were I thought this episode would destroy me emotionally. But just as it seems like too much, the music stops and thus giving you a brief beat to enjoy the moment. A true ride, with a beautiful story.

Star Trek: Picard (2020–2023)
Sir Pat brings his A game
11 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sir Patrick Stewart has always been a great actor and at times was allowed to let this shine in TNG. But since then he has matured in both appearance and talent and Picard brings it all. Picard is more human now, less... Starfleet.

The show enjoys a wonderful arc which is still playing out with some standout performances. Especially from Santiago Cabrera who I can see going on to be a fan favourite in his roll as Captain Rios... and the EMH... and the ENC.... and the emergency everything else.

With subtle nods to the rest of the Trek universe which is done in a way which doesnt seem cheesy or like they just shoehorned it in there to tick a box. The music cues too are just a delight.

And when you see Riker and he gives Enterprise commands like "Shields up, sensors to maximum" its just the band back together pure Blues Brothers style.

If you've been craving to find out how Jean Luc continued his adventures or to see how Starfleet is really then this show is for you.

Why only 9? The early episodes seemed like they were shot by someone who had just got out of film school. The camera movement was un-necessary and jarring, some of the pacing was off. This improved dramatically when J.Frakes took over and then a new one since then who is also an improvement.

Vikings: New Beginnings (2019)
Season 6, Episode 1
Here we go again... again
16 December 2019
Not the explosive start to a season you were hoping for and just more of the same you've seen (and not the good same).

Oh, we have to go and sort out the usurper again.

Oh, Ivor is still thinking he's a god.

Oh, you need to go and get revenge on someone yet again.

Oh, there's a mysterious land to the west we must explore.

The show died along with Ragnar and they are just desperately trying to hold on.

Serious pacing issues
17 November 2019
Beautiful. But oh so slow. Takes 10 minutes to show you something that should be nothing more than a quick glance. A 1 hr story that has been unnecessarily stretched out.

Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009)
Best tv show of all time
31 October 2019
The questions it makes you ask. The moments it quite literally has you in the edge of your seat and the times you actually shout "Frak yes!". They all add up to what is one of the most enjoyable shows of all time.

Add into this some of the most heart moving music that goes almost unnoticed as it fits so well.

I can't recommend this enough.

Great if it's wine o'clock

Dakota fanning cannot act. The story is just predictable and shots which should have been cut still exist. Still, it's a great movie for 'wine o'clock'

Bird Box (2018)
It's Netflix, so don't expect any explanation
25 January 2019
Netflix stay true to form with another movie with no real ending and zero explanation for where the monsters came from or how they do what they do. As a viewer you are expected to just accept everything.

The ending also means there will either be a sequel (doubtful) or lazy writers.

The acting is great. Sandra is as magnificent as always and Tom Holland is pure crazy.

IO (2019)
Like all Netflix films, it has no end
25 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Have you noticed how ALL Netflix originals seem to just end with no explanation for the films content? Well this is no different.

World is dying, she suddenly breathes, why IO? Nothing gets an explanation. Your supposed to just enjoy the moment but alas the moment is far too dull to enjoy.

Grey's Anatomy: Unbreak My Heart (2016)
Season 12, Episode 11
Clip show
14 November 2018
Move along folks. Nothing to see here. 80% recycled footage and nothing really worth a note. Just skip to the last 10 minutes to see the new footage and the point of the story.
