Matilda: The Musical (II) (2022)
6/10
Don't compare it to the movie
20 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have never read the book. When I'm talking about the "original Matilda" I'm referring to Matilda in the 1996 film (played by Mara Wilson) which I've seen many times.

Let me start on a positive note.

Tim Minchin is an absolute genious and his songs are brilliant.

Emma Thompson's performance was outstanding as always.

I liked the casting for Matilda and miss Honey and I thought the cinematography was beautiful.

That said, please don't watch this with the idea that it's going to be anything like the original film because you will end up dissapointed, like I was.

I felt there was a lack of chemistry between Matilda and miss Honey where in the original film you could feel their inescapable connection through the screen. I understand that the writers wanted to capture their connection by letting Matilda experience miss Honey's life story in her mind, but I didn't really like this take on their story.

The "original" Matilda was sweet, innocent, brave and kind and Matilda in this film is a little too forward for my taste. She lost her charm and could sometimes even be considered a little annoying.

Also, she may come across as a girl with mental health issues rather than a really clever individual. The original Matilda was also quite funny and witty while Matilda in this film is mostly angry and confused.

I think the story lost it's spark here and there. The original film is full of hope, joy and love and this film was a lot darker and heavier.

There were also a few things I missed when I'm comparing the film to the original. I didn't like the ending where miss Honey offers to adopt Matilda. I always really liked it that in the original film Matilda carries around adoption papers hoping that someday she'll be able to escape her awful parents. I also didn't like the whole scene where Matilda scares away miss Trunchbull. It was too much. The simplicity of the scene where "Magnus" writes on the board scaring miss Truncbull away in the original film was so much more real and vulnerable. This whole scene was just way too intense to keep it realistic, even though it's a fantasy movie of course. Like I said before, it lost it's charm.

All together: I didn't hate the movie but I didn't love it either. It was okay. I think you'll love it if you're not familiar with the original film or the book.

One last note: I think this movie is definitely not suitable for children.

Alternate reality
14 January 2021
I understand the negative reviews for this show, because historically speaking it is inaccurate, but that does not mean it is not very entertaining. You should see this as een alternate reality. The show takes place in the regency era. In that time, how awful it may be, there were no people of colour who were queens, dukes, lords and ladies. Although it's not really how things went down in this era, it sure is a lot of fun to see things in a different perspective. I loved seeing people of colour in this show without them being the help. I also loved how the show used very recent songs by artists such as Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande in a classic style to fit the era. If you love shows like Gossip Girl but you're also into costume drama's, please do watch this, 'cause it really is a lot of fun. The acting is great, the costumes are wonderful and the storyline, although being a little predictable, is very exciting.

Raising Dion (2019–2022)

Watch the whole season before judging!
4 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Some reviews are ridiculous. People quit after one or two episodes and judge the entire show based on that.

Okay, that said, I thought this show was good, but not outstanding. There are a few things that are great about it and a few things that kinda bug me. Let's start with the good things. The show is really suitable for a big audience. Kids (above the age of 9), teenagers and adults will be able to enjoy it. This show has, without spoiling too much, an AMAZING plot twist in episode 8 which I had never seen coming. I really loved that. The story is exciting and original.

Now, there's a few things I didn't like that much. The acting could've been better. A few actors are good, others are not that great and that's kind of distracting. Another thing I didn't like is that the show starts off a little slow, so I get why some people are not intrigued to continue. The mom in this story is not a likeable person in my opinion. She takes some getting used to and there were a few moments when I sighed because she was being unreasonable and unkind. Luckily it all works out in the end and as you watch her character grows on you. Last thing I didn't like is how dark the set/lighting is most of the time, but this is really a personal preference. It bugs me when living rooms are really dark during broad daylight. Again, this is something I don't like but others might not mind this at all.

Overall this show might not be a must-see, but it's definitely worth watching! I enjoyed it and despite the negative things it was exciting enough to binge-watch, which says a lot because I usually don't really do that.

A big hit in my opinion, might not be for everyone
16 August 2019
I understand that this movie might not be for everyone. It has kind of a "slow" build up, which I personally like, but might not be your cup of tea. Also, if you're not familiar with Tarantino's type of violence in movies, some scenes might be a little weird and over the top. That said, if you like Tarantino's humor and style... you'll love this! Just like I did. Leonardo DiCaprio's performance is outstanding and I'm pretty sure that this could get him another Oscar nomination in 2020. Brad Pitt is hilarious in this movie. I absolutely loved his character. All the other actors are remarkably good as well. The brilliant performances combined with the great cinematography made this movie an absolute winner for me. A must-see!

No Good Nick (2019)
5/10
Not that good...
10 August 2019
I started watching No Good Nick because I've always loved Melissa Joan Hart. I thought Melissa & Joey was hilarious and I was kind of expecting the same from No Good Nick, but I'm very dissapointed. The storyline overall is really good. A young girl claims to be a relative and lies her way into a family, only to steal from them. I love how Nick really starts to care for the family and everything that happens because of that. But here's the downside. There's no chemistry at all between Melissa Joan Hart and her on-screen husband Sean Astin. It's rare to find such a wrong match. The acting of the entire cast is far below average and the whole set and therefore the entire show feels kind of "cheap". Overall, this is not my cup of tea and I expect a lot better.

Christmas Wedding Planner (2017 TV Movie)

Wow... that's bad
12 February 2019
I love cheesy Christmas movies when I'm in the mood, so I'm not rating a genre I don't like to begin with, but this movie was just painful to watch. Jocelyn Hudon wasn't half bad, but all the other actors weren't even mediocre. I can't believe this was based on a book. Honestly, who would read such a crappy story and think; "Oh, wait a second... This would make a great movie!"

I wanted to turn it off half throughout but I gave it a chance to improve. It didn't. It got way worse and the ending to this movie is just dreadful. Don't waste your time on this crap and go watch 'The Holiday'. Or basically any other movie that's not this one.

Season 6, Episode 16

Brilliant episode!
9 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely rate a single episode, but this one was worth it. This episode is the most popular one for a reason! The entire episode takes place from Claire's laptop and I was happily surprised with how much I loved that concept. I honestly talked about this episode with every Modern Family fan I know and everyone thought it was creative, refreshing, unique and simply brilliant.

They took it too far
5 February 2019
I loved this show during it's first and second season and I liked the third season, but the fourth season is just way too much. First of all, this is not a comedy/drama. To me this is full-on comedy and it might even head towards slapstick in some scenes. I personally love comedy and I really, really enjoyed the first two seasons but during season 3 it just became more and more absurd and weird and the storyline kind of faded. It's still funny, hence the rating, but I did want to mention this for future viewers.

Sex Education (2019–2023)

Very well done
4 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am genuinely obsessed with this show and I'm sad there's only four seasons.

It reminded me a lot of Freaks and Geeks, which was also brilliant.

There's so much feels throughout the entire show and the characters are all so likeable.

The casting in this show is absolutely amazing. I've never seen anything like it. The fact that Alistair Petrie and Connor Swindells (Michael and Adam) aren't really related is mindblowing to me 😅 Ncuti Gatwa (Eric) is set to be one of the best actors of his generation and he deserves all the praise he's getting. Honestly, the entire cast is so good. There's a lot of new actors in this show with little experience but they were obviously chosen because of their incredible talent.

Seasons one and two are simply brilliant. Getting to know the characters and watching them come of age is an absolute joy. The show is bloody funny and very sweet.

Season three was slightly less good in my opinion because I didn't love everyone's storyline. Still amazing, though. I also understand the high ratings of the third season because it got a little more serious, which usually means it will get received well.

*****SEASON 4 SPOILERS AHEAD*****

Season four was not as good as the others. Even though I really enjoyed it, I didn't like the development of some characters. I honestly couldn't stand Maeve in the first few episodes. I thought the writers made her seem rude, selfish and constantly annoyed.

Same goes for Jean. She was the absolute favourite character of many, but her entire personality got butchered. She suffers from PPD, which is pretty common so I do think it's good that they put this in the show, but she didn't play as big of a part in Otis' life in this season and she wasn't the confident, strong lady we know. This somehow bothered me. I did really love her conversation with Maeve near the end. Absolutely heartwarming.

I loved the new characters in the show, but I also missed a few. What happened to Lily and why didn't we get a glimpse of how Jakob and Ola are doing?

Anyway, overall this show was an absolute gem. The ending was quite perfect in my opinion and I love that everyone is quite content with where they are in life. I will always recommend this show as a must watch for anyone and I'll truly miss it.

Moving, entertaining and inspiring
4 November 2018
I am and have always been a big Queen fan, so this could either be a huge hit or a terrible miss. As you can see by my rating, this was a fantastic movie that exceeded my expectations. The story is being told in an entertaining yet moving way and the acting blew me away. Rami Malek should win an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury! Whether you're a fan of the music or not, this movie is a must-see for everybody.

The Get Down (2016–2017)
10/10
Absolutely great for everyone
7 February 2018
The Get Down is one of the most remarkable and epic shows I have ever seen. I believe this is a show everyone could watch, even if you don't like hip-hop. It combines a lot of different genres to make it appealing for a big crowd. In general this is a drama/musical, but it also contains humor and action. Besides putting a spotlight on the evolution of hip-hop in the 70's, this show also focuses on the career of an aspiring disco singer, which makes the music throughout the show very versatile. The main characters all have unique personalities and the show really focuses on their personal life goals and the struggles that come with them. This show had a gigantic budget and you can really see that. The creators paid attention to every little detail. Even if you think this show is not for you, please give it a try. If you don't wanna watch because the show is cancelled, no worries. You won't be left with a big, annoying cliff-hanger at the end of season 1. I would've loved a second season, but the ending is satisfying enough to wrap up an entire show.

A bit disappointing
28 August 2015
I've rated this 7 out of 10 because there was a lot of effort in this movie and the actors did a great job but I've rated Pitch Perfect 9 out of 10, because the movie was really awesome. The sequel was just not that great. I missed the chemistry between some actors that was definitely there in the first movie. I also thought the storyline was a little blank and Beca, who we all love and who we all want to see more of appeared to be a supporting character. I loved the music and choreography, but even that wasn't nearly as good as it was in Pitch Perfect. I enjoyed the movie and it wasn't a waste of time, but it was a bit disappointing after how brilliant Pitch Perfect was.

One of the best Pixar movies ever!
26 August 2015
Funny, touching, clever and very well animated. All the reviews I saw/heard about this movie were very positive, so my expectations were high. And still this movie managed to seriously impress me! All the characters are so funny and unique and Baymax really melts your heart. The story is strong, thought through and very mature, maybe even a little too mature for little kids. I really do think this movie is more appropriate for teenagers and adults. I laughed, I cried and I enjoyed every minute. This might be one of my favourite animated feature films and is definitely one of my all time favourite Pixar movies. One to watch!

Ted 2 (2015)

Hilarious!
24 August 2015
Since I really loved Ted, I couldn't wait to go see Ted 2. And I have to say, it really exceeded my expectations! I've seen several movie sequels that weren't nearly as good as the first movie, but this one definitely was. It was hilarious from the very first minute! The jokes were really clever and a lot of them came unexpected, which is a typical thing I love about Seth MacFarlane's productions. I also really liked Amanda Seyfried in this movie. Her character Sam is hilarious and I bet everyone falls in love with her. I loved everything about this movie. The jokes, the characters and also the message it sends, which is that love always wins. If you liked Ted, don't hesitate and go see this movie right now!

Not as bad as I expected
1 March 2015
I have read the books. And I have to admit, I didn't enjoy the books as much as I enjoyed the movie. First of all, let's talk about the casting. I think Dakota Johnson did a nice job. She's kind of what I imagined Ana to be. Jamie Dornan on the other hand isn't... I like him as an actor, and I think he did great. But the way he looks just doesn't fit in my opinion. He seems to sweet. No problem for anyone who hasn't read the books, though.

I thought the film was quite alright, actually. It was definitely not too dark and heavy like I expected from everyone's reviews. Ana is bubbly and funny, which is not at all the way she seemed in the books. When it comes to the sex part, as long as you're okay with a bit of boob and pubic hair here and there, it's not that provocative. Of course there's the topic of BDSM, but I think it's not shown like a terrible form of physical abuse like I've read here. It didn't seem disturbing to me.

I thought it was a romantic, funny and easy movie that's perfectly appropriate to watch on a girl's night or a movie night with your boy/girlfriend

Better than expected
12 June 2014
Before I write a review, let me admit that Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams are two of my favorite actors which might have a positive influence on my opinion.

I loved this movie! It was much better than I expected. I thought it would be one of those typical romantic drama's that's way overrated and too mushy for my taste. But I actually thought it was a great take on a beautiful love story with a bit of humor here and there. Even though I read a lot of reviews saying otherwise, I thought the chemistry between the two leading characters was brilliant. Both Channing and Rachel did a fantastic job! All together, I loved this film and I can honestly recommend it to anyone who loves romantic movies.

Insidious (I) (2010)

Average
11 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I watched Insidious thinking it would be one of the scariest movies I would ever see. I've read so many good reviews and heard great things about it. But honestly, it's an average horror movie. Not bad at all, but not spectacular either. The story is good and not predictable if you haven't read any spoilers. There are definitely some great jump scares and a few pretty creepy scenes. I think the actors are doing a good job in this film, especially Rose Byrne. But here's the negative thing. The demon that wants to take control over Dalton's body looks like someone dressed up for Halloween. Far from scary. Especially when you see him crawling like some sort of lizard. If they had come up with a really creepy demon instead of this one, the movie would definitely get a 9 star rating from me. But this funny looking creature kind of ruined it. All together, I do think Insidious is a nice movie when you're really into horror. It's not like you will really waste your time. It just could have been better

Worth watching
5 June 2014
I honestly don't get all the bad reviews on this movie. I saw it twice and bawled my eyes out both times. Maybe Miley isn't the best actress in the world to play such a dramatic part, but I think she did a nice job. Instead of being negative, let's sum up all the good things about this movie. The story is very moving and touching and will definitely make you cry, the chemistry between Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus is beautiful, the soundtrack is gorgeous and the performance of young Bobby Coleman is exceptional! He deserves so much credit for this part! All together, it's sad to see that the ratings are so bad. It will keep people from watching which is such a shame since this movie is really worth watching.
