Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Still processing the fact that I have a new favourite film
If you're like me, you maybe have had a handful of favourite movies in your life, and you hold them tight and close like little personal treasures. It can be hard to demote a film to "second favourite," especially if it's held the #1 spot for some time, but every so often you see something that challenges for that title. I seriously doubt that I'm the only one who has found a new favourite movie after this experience.
I do very much mean experience, too. EEAAO will have you laughing, crying, and laughing again on repeat for more than two hours. Every genre imaginable fits perfectly and purposefully into the film, and you never feel like the plot has left you behind. The story pulled me through from start to finish as light speed and left me feeling a mix of sonder and joy.
As a clear early front runner for next year's Best Picture (sorry, Dune 2), this movie will make you feel something, everything, everywhere, all at once. Go with a friend, go by yourself, go as many times as you damn well please because nothing matters. Just see this movie.
The Midnight Gospel: Annihilation of Joy (2020)
Just get to this episode
This is the episode that makes this show worth watching. If you just want to try out the show to see what it's like and only have time for one episode, pick this one and bring lots of weed (if you live in Canada )
