Charlotte's Web (2006)
The Worst Pig Movie! Charlotte's Web: Bored in the City
This pig movie is hardly a pig movie. The animals talk but there are no evil clowns or even a metropolitan city for the pig and his friend to go perform their animal hijinks in! When the spider starts spelling words I couldn't help but yawn. There were not nearly enough chimpanzees or orangoutangs or Border Collies or Indian Runner Ducks or even lovable pigs! That's right, I said it! That will not do pig, that will not do!
Saw (2004)
One of the Most Brilliant Horror Films Ever.
You wake up. You're in room with two other guys. One of them is dead. You are trapped to the wall by a chain on your ankle. You have no idea how you got there. Imagine that. Now imagine that getting much, much worse. And you have Saw. Saw is brilliant. It has no cheap twists or turns. No clichés, which are often unavoidable in the genre. And the whole film, as a horror flick, is a refreshing break from the plentiful jump scares that other films are so prominent in using. This film is frightening. It is gruesome. It is creepy. You never find that in horror films nowadays. Even in the sequels that follow this film, they are burdened by cheap and exhausted trends that, yes, may be frightening, but never do they leave you thinking "I didn't see that coming" or simply leave you with your jaw hanging as much as this film does. Saw also benefits from it's truly human characters. Characters that are flawed, troubled and real. Characters who move along the way with you. Instead of the classic "Don't open closet, don't open the closet" feel you get from some movies, Saw puts you there with character, totally okay with opening the closet until you realize it was an awful decision. The entire film digs at you, unsettles you, makes absolutely sure that your uneasy. It doesn't hesitate in pulling the carpet from under your feet. So many horror films make you chase them. They make you panic for answers. You are scared. Saw doesn't do this however. Saw grabs you by the ankle and drags you in until your just as captive as it's characters. You are amazed. Watching Saw alone, in the dark, late at night is how it should be watched. Otherwise you'll miss the full experience that this film proves to be. To all you horror fans out there, go watch this movie right now. To all of those who don't enjoy horror films, swallow the lump in your throat and do the same.
Sinister (2012)
Sinister. A Excellent Horror Film.
Sinister is very well made horror film. It is the only scary horror film I've seen for a very long time. It's never too cliché as most horror movies are. It never cheats you. The performances are believable and the story is intriguing and always moving. The director has control over his audience, and the audience is completely okay with that. I knew early into the film what kind of horror film it was and I how it would scare me. And that what was one of things it had going for it. You can anticipate the scares and that makes it much more frightening. Do not confuse anticipation with predictability. The movie wasn't too gruesome, which left more room for actual fear. All in all, it is a very good film, So good, it's almost... Sinister...
The Ten Commandments (2007)
Really, Really Terrible
This is one of the worst movies ever made. None of the characters were likable (including Moses) and Elliot Gould voices God as if he were falling asleep. And, as many others have pointed out, the animation is awful. I am embarrassed for the animators, but also enraged at them. But let's not give them all the credit for how bad this movie is, like many others have. One thing I don't understand is how the creators of this film managed to make it so bad! It wasn't like they had to come up with the story! That came from the bible! And it had all the right ingredients. A stellar leading cast, and was written by the man who wrote the children's classic, 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.' But none the less, every part of the movie was wretched. All the characters are jerks and mean. I'm not completely sure what everybody expected out of this movie while they were making it. Did they think they were creating some biblical masterpiece? Well, if they did, I can't imagine how disappointed they are. Please, don't even think about watching this garbage. It really is as bad as everyone says.
City Slickers (1991)
A Comedy That Is Important
After watching City Slickers, I found myself shocked that it only had a 6.7 rating. The movie is the whole package. It's funny, but it has moments that are very serious and important. If examining this movie, one could find many things, such as important views on death, life and why we're all here. But let's just examine the outer layer here. It is a movie that can make you laugh very hard, but think. Jack Palace's Oscar-Winning performance as Curly does not disappoint, and Billy Crystal is hilarious as always. The characters were likable and the script was near perfection. However, apart from everything good I have to say about this movie, it also felt incomplete. I just can't put my finger on what it needed, but something was missing. Otherwise,City Slickers is a great time and definitely one to see.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Insanely Good
When the movie your watching has a scene where a crazy guy hits an evil, six-foot tall, apocalypse predicting bunny with his car, and then shoots a clown, you know it's, at the very least, interesting. Donnie Darko is a dark, and often frighten film, peeking into the mind of an insane teenage boy. Warning: Don't expect to watch this movie and not be confused and weirded out. This is one of the most strange, yet elegant story ever told on film. By the end, you find yourself wide-eyed, and trying to process what you've just seen. The only reason I don't give Donnie Darko a 10/10 is because, apart from the main roles, the acting is not as good as it could have been. Not saying it was bad, just that it wasn't as good as it some the actors were capable of. Jake Gyllenhaal puts all of his skill into his performance and it shows. Donnie Darko is an excellent film and consider my rating as a 9.5/10. It is very good. By the way, look for Seth Rogen in his first film role as a high school bully.
Killers (2010)
So Bad...
Killers may be Ashton Kutcher's worst film. And that's saying something. Now, if your bored and all your doing is sitting and counting tiles on the floor and Killers is on TV... keep counting the tiles. I can't help but wonder why the people involved in the thought doing this movie was a good idea. This film is so incredibly pathetic, I laughed at it's very concept. The one good comment I have is for Tom Selleck who gives the only decent performance in the entire film. I hope Hollywood will someday apologize to everybody who wasted their time on watching this. The story is so stupid and pointless. I am confused by the good reviews for this film. I can't comprehend why somebody might enjoy garbage like this. In a world that includes good comedy films, why waste your time on a comedy that causes emotional pain instead of laughter? Please, don't watch this. Go watch a good comedy like Dumb and Dumber.
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Astounding
To Kill a Mockingbird is an amazing movie. I loved it! It is my third favourite movie after The Shawshank Redemption and Rain Man. The film lead, Atticus Finch is listed on AFI"s list as the #1 Hero, which I agree with fully. This film brought emotion to me that many films can't reach. I was genuinely upset when it was announced Tom Robinson was shot. This film was really, really good. Gregory Peck play's Atticus Finch to perfection. And the film also hold some of the strongest child performance's I have seen, along with a strong narration from Kim Stanley. There is also a beautiful message in this film, and it touches down on the issue of racism. I am a fan of Courtroom Drama films and To Kill a Mocking Bird is the best one there is. It was a joy to watch.
Rain Man (1988)
Best Film of the 80's
Dustin Hoffman's Oscar-winning performance as Raymond Babbitt is among the best of all time. Rain Man is my second favourite film after The Shawshank Redemption, but it's a pretty close call. An amazing screenplay and excellent directing, this film is thresh hold to many great things. And Tom Cruise's performance in Rain Man is underrated and was also deserving of an Oscar nomination. Before the film's release, it was expected the film would be awful, with Hoffman and Cruise calling the film "Two Schmuck's in a Car" during filming. But a surprise came with the film being an Oscar winner and truly special. Rain Man is "Definetly" a very good film.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The Most Magnificent Movie Ever
The Shawshank Redemption is undoubtedly the best best movie ever. The Oscar's biggest mistake was giving Forrest Gump the awards that Shawshank deserved. Not to take credit from Forrest Gump which is also an amazing movie, but it just can't compare to Shawshank. Morgan Freeman arguably delivers his best performance and Tim Robbins gives a performance that I feel is greatly underrated, and also deserved an Oscar nomination. The films art direction adds to the story's beauty, and gives off a feeling that fills you with hope. I remember seeing The Shawshank Redemption on sale for $5 at Wal-Mart and thinking "I heard this is good" so I bought it. Little did I know the film was worth more than gold. I bought the film and put off watching it for a couple weeks, not overly anticipating watching it, but finally decided to watch it when I was bored. I am a gigantic movie buff, and have so many movies it's almost pathetic, but The Shawshank Redemption changed my entire view of film. Now, every time I watch a movie I can't help but think "It can't beat Shawshank." Some people say that this movie is overrated, but that's wrong. Shawshank is an actual work of art, to be compared with works of DaVinci and Picasso. When people say this movie makes them cry, they don't mean to say it's so sad, but that they didn't know that something of such beauty could be conveyed on screen. I believe that if everybody see's only one movie during their life, it should be this one. See it now. After that, IMDb will seem like a whole new website because every film will seem like a different movie. It is, by the very definition of the word magnificent.
Green Lantern (2011)
Really Bad
I was excited to see this movie. I expected a funny, action-packed, special effects extravaganza that would receive critical acclaim. Instead I sat through a conversation between a guy in tights and a girl with a few scene that had green light picking things up. It was 2 hours of my life that the producers owe me back.I yawned and tried not to fall asleep or leave, hoping that the end of the film would bring some excitement but was disappointed. Horribly written (I can't stretch that enough), and mediocre directing and acting from some people that we've come to expect more from. Avoid this movie and go watch a good superhero movie that doesn't bring you into a state of depression.
Inception (2010)
The Best Movie of 2010
Inception is a fresh, mind-blowing, intriguing masterpiece. I enjoyed this movie more than I expected. For a story that could've been a mess in the hands of a different director and cast. Christopher Nolan wrote and directed the film beautifully and delicately. The ending result was a film that topped it's genre and became the film to beat. Leonardo Dicaprio, who will hopefully soon get his deserved Oscar, gives a beautiful performance as Cob, an idea thief who steals from dreams, but misses his family. When the opportunity arises to return home, he has no choice, even if it means facing the impossible. Inception. Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives one of his careers best performances and adds something to Dicaprio's performance. A well crafted movie, that you should watch when you feel like being amazed.
The Five-Year Engagement (2012)
An Enjoyable Piece of Comedy
The Five-Year Engagement was a pleasant experience to watch. More comedy, than romantic comedy, guys and girls will be able to enjoy this movie. A generally large amount of laughter amounted from the audience, and when it was over, everybody seemed content with how they had spent their money. It was funny but it was much to long. With a running time of over 2 hours, you get a sense of insult, feeling like the film makers have not given you enough credit of understanding the plot, which is simple and easy. Otherwise, the movie was well-written and the acting was surprisingly good.I laughed a substantial amount and my girlfriend enjoyed it as well. I recommend seeing this film.
