Hitchcock (2012)

A Great Movie on "The Master of Suspense "
9 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't sure what to expect , but I was not disappointed ! Anthony Hopkins managed to get Mr. Hitchcock's mannerisms and slow drawn out speech pattern. Helen Mirren as Alma was superb as well ! I'm a Big horror fan and Hitch did those well. You watched the struggles they went through to get his latest obsession, " Psycho " made. A neat peek behind the curtain, if you will, how the man operated. My favorite scene was , the initial audience screening, Hitch played the audience with exquisite timing! Knowing precisely when his audience would respond , conducting an orchestra. It was like visiting with an old friend !

Best thing to happen in the genre for quite some time !
16 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
LOVED this movie ! What a breath of fresh air for movie fans! Saw this earlier this year when it first came out so I wouldn't be jaded by the opinions of others. So glad I did that! Finally, something that wasn't part 24 or a prequel , but a fresh New concept ! At times I was laughing hysterically only for a scene to reminded me it was a horror movie ! Quite a balancing act that is to invoke both humor & horror in the same movie without you laughing At the movie instead of with it. Haven't had that type of fun since Drag Me to Hell ! Yeah the characters were the stereotypical types found in horror, but someone has to be killed ! Thought it was going to be the "typical " kids go in woods, killer hunts them down & kills them off one by one, Boy was I wrong!, that was only part of the story. Loved how they had the parallel story going on in the control room as they watched how their "guinea pigs" performed ,sacrificing them in hopes of saving the world ! And once again the Japanese had the cultural and spiritual beliefs & knowledge to come out on top ! ( Original , The Ring & The Grudge !) Great variety of monsters, ghouls and things, each level down (or sideways) more horrifying than the next! The stuff nightmares are truly made of ! All in all it was a Great roller-coaster ride of emotions that had me questioning if it even did fit neatly in a genre box! It doesn't , but to Hollywood I say find some more Original stories ( not a rehash of this or even remotely similar ) and lots of us will be there for opening weekend ! Great fun , not too scary or gory ( Hostel ? ) Like I said our appetites are wet Hollywood ,So , More Please !

The Possession (I) (2012)

De ja vu, Anyone ?
16 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I Soo Love the fact that Sam Raimi & his Ghosthouse productions are on the Horror band wagon. That said I was a little disappointed in The Possession. I'd heard the buzz about the Dibbuk box & the myth surrounding it and thought it could bring a fresh prospective to the genre ( even though it touts being based on a true story , yes I've heard of the book , the author being the current possessor of said box, I'm also aware of how Hollywood likes to stray from the facts they proudly tout ! lol ! ) I felt for the characters involved and the weird things they were experiencing . I was invested in going along with them on the quest to solve the mystery! The previous owner was still alive so we could ask, " what's up with the box lady !" but along the way the story became... lost? uncertain ? pick the adjective of your choice ! I couldn't help but feel a sense of de ja vu as so many of the "scares" had already been used in Drag Me to Hell, ( which I loved !) the moths, if you saw both I'm sure you noticed too, if not check them both out and see. And the many scenes where we the audience are expected to be too dense to know that if one is stabbed in the hand like the father was you're going to the hospital at a minimum for pain killers ! yet the next day all is well without so much as a bandage on his hand ! smh ! It tried to build up to something but the climax had me going, " that's it ?" , the scene in the morgue gave me the willies more than that ! And you , I and Stevie Wonder saw that ending coming, maybe not the exact method, but we saw it coming. Overall in spite of it's self I still enjoyed it because I'll watch anything horror , but with warning I would have waited for the video , So, you've been Warned !

Alice kicks Butt Again & doesn't disappoint ! ! !
16 September 2012
Just saw it in theaters ( 3-D version of course !) From the beginning visually I was hooked ! I'm a huge fan of the franchise due to my Love of the Undead! Knew of the video game but never played any of them so I had no route I was expecting them to follow, just went in to be entertained & have been there opening weekends ever since ! The 3-D was used very well, not a zillion things constantly flying at you, but when they did it was Awesome. The action scenes did not disappoint ! Even without her powers Alice was still a force to be reckoned with . Be it with Bada** guns or just her body , Umbrella was going to have to bring All it had to take her & her crew down! Loved the bringing back of familiar characters, but hated you know who was on the other side this time. : ( Love the fact that the females are the lead bada**es & don't hide in a corner waiting for someone to rescue them ! Yeah at times the situations are unreal , but hey people it's a Movie , it's meant as an escape from the "real world " ! So if you want a mind numbing , action packed ride see it & hold on tight ! It won't win an Oscar , but this installment ensured I'll be there opening night for the next installment ! Enjoy !
