Legion: Chapter 12 (2018)
Season 2, Episode 4
10/10
Beautiful tale of love...
11 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
1st review of an Legion episode. This episode explores the Syd's life through the years before meeting David. Its an interesting exposition and also shows what drives her as a person in her adult years. Having been through the institution and surviving it by escaping it in season 1 and then finding, David again after losing him at the end of season 1, we finally get to the core of her being.

Someone wrote that its the weakest episode so far. Maybe they were looking for another pop corn episode with guns and deaths?

But, as important as actions and flashy scenes are, if there isn't any emotion in it, its just another pointless moment in television. I am sure all of us who watch this episode, will come back to it over and over again, long after the season is done.

This is a love story, after all, about two lovers, albeit with especial powers. And, its this love that drives the series. Even in season 2 episode 1, Syd tells, David to never lie to her. Isn't that what every lover wants? Never to be lied to because that's what inevitably kills a relationship.

And if you have seen the previous episodes, then you have seen, David, tell Syd the truth and now, here in this episode she tells him the truth about herself. That's more powerful than any flashy explosion death episodes.

Every Day (2018)

I was skeptical , really, really skeptical...
10 June 2018
When I read the premise, I felt it was a rip on the YouTube series, without giving credit. But I decided to watch it anyway. And, I really enjoyed it. Since its a teen romance type drama, something I haven't watched since my own teens back in the 80s, I watched it without that fore knowledge. The only YA I watch are sci-fi or fantasy based films.

So, to watch Every Day and to still have it hold my attention and keep me captivated, without all the flash bang effects of other CGI multi-million $ productions, it did a very good job. Time is precious to me and taking it out to watch a film, I usually wouldn't watch and yet still enjoy as much as I did this one, was well worth it.

The portrayals were great and the lead did an awesome job.

Honest

Strange seeing reviews on this and other Stand-Up specials from the last 2yrs and realizing that some people are just joining IMDB just to give a 1 rating.

I enjoyed this, having been thru similar, albiet not the kids or courtroom dramas or kids but, the divorce, the mess and dating again. Unless you have been thru it, you won't laugh.

And since its a specific audience/people that the jokes are aimed at, other viewers are getting offended. Funny that.

Sometimes it takes a while for a film to fully be appreciated. After I watched the film, I gave it only a 6/10 as I felt it was okay, even though I really enjoyed it and liked the script. However, after a year has passed I thought I would come back and give it some thought and I realized that It is a really food film with a very good script and deserves to be up there with other similar horror movies of note.

Whats with the high rating?
28 May 2018
So this was supposed to be funny? Smart? Intelligent? Relevant? Actually none of the above. I gave it 5/10 because I don't like to be harsh, but really this was bad.

Marlon Wayans: Woke-ish (2018 TV Special)

Loved it
27 May 2018
Grew up here in NZ watching In Living Color and then later with the movies. Haven't seen any of Marlon's Stand Up before, but I have been watching a load of Stand Up this past year. So, when I give a rating its based on what a person brings to the table based on their own personal experiences, because thats what speaks to me as real comedy. Marlon's Woke-sih did that. He didn't try to be over political as a lot are doing now, but he left me feeling happy at the end despite the topics and even felt educated with some of the themes. Which brings me to the ratings. I wonder if people are just using ratings like Fanboys are doing in with the comic industry, and that is trying to dictate what others should be reading, in this case watching. If are an immature person who wants to give fake ratings based on the fact that you didn't like one piece of item or topic than I think you should watch and review only the things and people you like. Otherwise its just nitpicking and dictating and you know where the word dictating comes from. So, for everyone who wants a laugh and just enjoy themselves, give this one a go.

Wow. Just wow.
26 April 2018
I don't understand the low rating. Maybe they have never watched an anime before?

Anyway, for me this was an awesome fist for the eyes and the incorporating of Japanese Shogun era was amazing. Simplified, but amazing. I love Japanese culture and their artforms and so I am a huge anime fan and also, just started getting into reading Manga, as I am over the superhero genre, which has been a huge part of my life, both a fan, collector and a comic store owner.

So, Sam Liu's Suicide Squad and this film has been a godsend as Bat's is one of my top 3 long form comic book characters, Punisher and Constantine being the other two.

Thank you, Kazuki Nakasima. You gave me another reason for loving Bats.

Soon to be a Cult Classic

Warning: Spoilers
Raw. Just totally raw and totally realistic portrayal of the Rogues Gallery characters who finally get to come alive. I wasn't expecting to see this level of mature content on a DC or Marvel animated movie. Although Justice League Dark at the edges. Its awesome to see DC allow, Burnett & Liu to portray these characters the way they are supposed to be and not some PG rated, watered down version of themselves to please the masses. Although, I love what has been put out so far, but this movie stands out as a no-holds-barred mature Vertigo level content. Liu handles Burnett's writing with joyous humor and an artistic license that you are blown even before the credits role. Both figuratively and visually by the direction of the story. I am so glad I decided to watch this. It reminded me of Deadpool and Logan. Taking two dimensional characters and breathing life into them in this fashion got my heart pumping. More of this and less of the PG stuff. I am glad that DC allowed this level of maturity for an animated feature. Maybe they realized there are enough PG content out there to please the new viewers and that decade long time fans like me, want some maturity in our animated stories too. Hell, manga has been doing it for decades. Now it seems that American comics is catching up, finally.

All, I want to say is more of this please, DC.

One more thing, Harley has some of the best lines, which made up for her not having that mush to do in the movie. Maybe we need a similar mature story with Harley and Ivy as the lead to balance this out.

Thank you, Sam and Alan. You made a fan of 28yrs and a 44yrs old very happy.

Lost in Space: Impact (2018)

Fun to watch...
14 April 2018
Some recent sci-fi's are highly intelligent with all the boxes ticked that make for thought provoking television ie, Altered Carbon. Some are a bit of fun and some intelligence to keep you interested in the science side of it Dark Matter, Killjoy. And then there are those like Lost in Space.

The old series was fun and didn't come near anywhere near the the original Star Trek and Twilight Zone but it still entertained. And thats the same with this episode. Its just fun and you can enjoy the family drama and the emotions and leave the thinking aside so that you can just enjoy the ride.

I love sci-fi, hell I try to write sci-fi, so I know sometimes its just fun to throw in all sorts of little stuff to keep the story moving and thats what this revamp seems to aim for. Its the kind of show you can sit back with the kids without having to explain the science of it all. Its a family show so you have to look at it through the eyes of Will, and put the thinking side of the brain aside and grab some pop corn.

I really liked it. I thought it was interesting enough for a binge. There are far worse shows.

9/10 The Best Episode of the New.
8 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is an episode that really stands out from the current episodes in that it is very well written and cinematography is perfect. The lack of dialog works well in that antagonists, the robots, don't use a lot of verbal speech. But, this allows for more tech to be put to use to communicate. Its not a new story. Black Mirror is dealing with tech far better. But, here in this environment it stands out with the unique use of various tech all at once.

Silent Witness: One Day: Part 1 (2018)
Season 21, Episode 7

Gut-Wrenching 2-parter
2 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I don't usually bother reviewing episodes of any series because they are just part of an on-going show. But, One Day had me teary-eyed for almost the entire story. It was a tough tale about a care-giving home and since there have been quite a lot about ill-treatment and abuse in the past couple years in such places the story was very relevant. It was a hard show to watch because of the abuse, but also because of the apathy and disregard for human life and wellbeing.

This however shouldn't come as a shock because we are a very inhuane modern culture. Just look over the past decade and you will notice, if you allow yourself the time to look, that we have lost that part of ourselves that make us, what we believe to be, human. A person who cares about the wellbeing of others and therefore is concerned of the treatment of those who can't voice or convey their needs and feelings in a way we can understand. Or, rather that we care to take the time to actually listen because it would inconvenience us.

I am so amazed at the care taken by the writers to actually tell a story that shined a light at all the various side characters and views.

Also, we get a look at Clarissa's backstory. Thank you for this dear writers.

Wow, did not see that coming...
16 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
May contain spoilers.

Well, I don't ever comment on specific episodes, but this one was a heart wrenching one. With Tom being the ass that he is I was hoping he would get taken out. He was really pissing me off with trying to get between Red and Liz.

Even when he is warned not to get involved over and over he continues till the bitter end and has to be taught the cost of his doggedness by the Garvey.

Even after being saved by Red he still pursued his own agenda. And in doing so nearly gets Liz killed.

This was a satisfactory episode for me and a nice ending to the Keens. I got what I wanted in the end.

Feel Good Show with Emotion.
1 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It seems there is a 50/50 split whether you like the show or not. I, for one do.

I binge watched 6 episodes in a row as I felt I needed to keep watching since it, for me, kept getting better.

I have babysat an autistic child and so had to read up on how to look after a 3yrs old with autism. So, watching the show meant that I had a better understanding going in. As an adult I had a regular customer on a similar spectrum and I could see the changes that a person has learned over time, and so the lead has had as well.

We are seeing him here a long time before med school, as well as having to deal with students everyday who know his situation. Who have learned to deal with it, otherwise he would not have graduated etc.

This new hospital has people who he has to work with that don't know him, which makes it seem too hard to believe that he got this far if you just watch the show without thinking about the studying he had to do.

Students tend to help each other to succeed, I would hate to see all those asses who took advantage of him while at med school to pass their grades.

I want to know where his parents are now. Do they know he is a doctor and are they gonna show up to get his money. Especially his ass of a father.

I am going to watch the Korean original series which this is based on while I wait for ep. 7.

Iron Fist (2017–2018)

Least of all the Marvel'Netflix shows.
19 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a Marvel fan for well over 30yrs. And I have loved every single Marvel/Netflix series so far and made sure to not read any reviews or watch any trailers prior to watching the series so that I would go in blind. Following is my points of likes and dislikes.

1. Danny Rand, supposedly a Kung Fu Master by all accounts isn't one in this series, sadly as shown by the B Grade fight scenes.

2. Danny's character is a spoiled child and not that of a highly disciplined fighter.

3. Davos: see point 1 above.

4. The fight scenes are haphazard and should have been more in line with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon skill level if we are to believe the whole point of the Iron Fist level of fighting.

5. Claire's character, which is very well developed in the DD, Luke Cage, etc. here is totally off script.

6. Madade Gau is probably the best character develop the show has going for it. Though I can't understand how she was so easily captured when in a an earlier scene she threw Danny 30 plus meters with a single touch. Yet she doesn't use any martial arts when about to be captured.

7. Makado: see point 1.

8. I kept expecting the next episode to be better, but it never happened.

9. Overall the show had moments of great storytelling but it left me feeling let down.

10. This is not a top notch Kung Fu show but a show with very bad fight scenes compared to any top rated Kung Fu movies that have come out over the past five years alone. Even, the Netflix Crouching Tiger had 10x better fight scenes and they had two teenagers fighting in it. Maybe they should have gotten their stunt team.

11. Colleen's skills are better than Danny's at times. She steals the show as fighter for me and I think her skills are at the right level for her stage as Sensei in the show. This is the only thing that is right about the show when it comes to the fight scenes.

12. The ending with Jo and Davos was bad. How are we to believe that Jo would suddenly side with Davos after the fact that Danny basically handed himself over to be killed by Makado to save her and her father and brother? Its not realistic and out of character for her.

13. Both Ward and Harold had amazing and believable character development and I enjoyed their acting.

14. If there is another series they must up their game on the fighting scenes, because it is a show about a Master Martial Artist.

15. They have to get the writers of Daredevil to write season 2 if there is going to be one.

4/10 for fight scenes. 6/10 for story. 7/10 for character development for everyone except Danny Rand's.

I initially gave it a 7/10 then when I decided to write this an hour later I changed it to a 6/10 based on the above.

Glad I didn't read the plot summary...
5 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Or I wouldn't have enjoyed the movie as much as I did. The story is very different to your average ghost story. Love the twist and kept my interest right to the end. The story is a slow bleed story on a new girl in town type tale filled with stories about a haunted forest. I really liked the way the story was revealed. I was asking myself what the inciting incident was after the first 10mins. The film doesn't try hard to be the next Exorcist or Amityville Horror and stands on its own feet as a ghost story that creates it's own genre.

If you read the plot summary, whoever wrote it deserves to be shot, the whole summary is a big Spoiler. Why anyone would write the whole premise and outline of a movie as a plot summary I can't for the life of me understand Which hopefully every horror/thriller fan won't read.

It deserves more than the low rating its been given on here. 6/10

Amazing Pilot.
21 April 2013
With the current shows that have actually been aired since 2005, you'd think that this show would already have several seasons. But, sadly not so.

I am a big Warren Ellis fan and yesterday started rereading his comics. Warren has written some amazing graphic novels and this one deserved to be a TV series. I only happened to hear about it when I decided to read up on wiki about Ellis' other works.

I loved this pilot. It deserves the rating it has. Hands down this is a very classy pilot. There is so much to like. We get Michelle Forbes as Amanda Zero who really nails the role. Michelle is such an awesome actor and has had great roles in the past. This one really suits her.

I loved the pacing and the tone of the show was just perfect for the story. I hope they hurry-up and make a series.
