The Beekeeper (2024)

Old and good (and silly) revenge plot
4 February 2024
I wanted an action movie and I got one.

Statham, The Beekeeper, is the baddest of the bad asses.

It has that eghties action movies vibe, with a plot that doesn't make sense, with dispensible underveloped characters that you don't care at least. But you're not here for the story, you're here to watch Statham dispatching bad guys and others not as bad when the circunstances demand. And he delivers. As long you are not looking for veracity

And you get Jeremy Irons, classy as usual.

They even can conceal a secret until it matters.

If you are tired of pretentious movies and want something where you know good is good and bad is bad, you can watch this one.

I got what I wanted
22 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The screenplay is dull, with exagerated villains, and relies on coincidences to keep running.

Robert McCall contacts his deceased best friend's daughter (never mentioned before, as I recall), who, somehow, doesn't know him.

Well, I didn't go to the movies for the screenplay, but to watch Denzel Washington dispatching bad guys at ease. And I got it. He's still very good and it's a pleasure to watch him. What the last movie lacked we have now. It even had some gore. Not necessary though.

So, if you want to watch bad guys getting what they deserve, and no political bullshxt, that's a movie that will entertain you.

Bold and Brave

How can be a film about saving children be so controversial? Something is very wrong. Maybe the problem is the names involved, as Mel Gibson as excutive producer.

It's a dramatic and compelling story of a man who dedicated his life to help children (and their parents) in inhuman situations.

Jim Caviezel is great. He transmits sadness, hope and hopelessness, and contained fury. Also are the children played with great care.

It's a very hard film to watch and even if doesn't show any gore or torture, the suggestion of what's about to happen or happened is a punch in the stomach.

And where's the Epstein's list?

Dumb but watchable
24 July 2022
It makes no sense but has enough to be watched until the end in a lazy afternoon. It's from 2019 and I haven't seen Eckhart for a good amount of time.

Just don't think about it. It's a Saban movie after all.

Mindless Fun
23 July 2022
It's a Mission Impossible / 007 / John Wick mash up that works for an action movie without too much pretension. There's nothing new to the genre, but what it has is well executed. Suspension of disbelief is obligatory.

It's solely based on the book as the story goes way differently.

Police is bad, mmmkay?!
31 May 2022
The timeline is confusing with all the different dates being thrown around.

But, anyway, the series can be summarized:

Republicans are bad; Trump is bad; Policemem are bad; White policemen are worse.

Touching
7 May 2022
Touching without being over melodramatic. Funny at moments without idiocy.

The director seemed to transmit well the situation of deaf people.

A simple but compelling story. Good job.

Not much better than an average videoclip

You stock until the end because of the action and nothing else.

There are the required progressive b******t moments but they do not really compromise what's already weak.

Well done

Finally something different.

Despite the slow pace it doesn't fold into boredom. The retro future setting and the whole situation keeps the viewer's interest.

I only wish they revealed more about the world's conjecture.

Good fan service

It's a well done nostalgic trip, with a not much coherent story. If you discount that, you can have fun with the many familiar faces. I just don't think it's the ultimate wonder many think it is.

Funny until...

Warning: Spoilers
It was doing fine with all the different visuals. I got the spirit of the show. But when it all came down about homosexuality discrimination I lost interest. It was not a great revelation, it was pushed and dull.

The Batman (2022)

Very Good, But...
7 March 2022
The Batman is a very good movie, but I can't help but notice the identitarism instilled to continue the brainwashing. The villains are all white, the only one in the gang who has doubts is black, the mayor who will unite the city is black. And it can be also explicit: like when Catwoman says those rich old white men deserved what happened to them.

Other than that, the film is well acted and very well directed. It has a few flaws in the script and it loses its breath at the very end.

It was worth going to the cinema after so long.

So So

It seems a Suicide Squad in a fantasy world. I couldn't really get interested in the characters, least of all Scalan, an annoying and arrogant brat who thinks everything is about sex.

Good

A good not pretentious detective movie.

Mel Gibson's done good in minor roles and he was the main interest in this movie.

An ex LAPD cop is reached by a former lover to help a famous actor acused of murdering his wife. The plot is simple without great surprises and nice to follow.

Nothing new: repentant assassin lives a simple life and gets affectioned to a young girl in a poor neighborhood. When she faces danger, he appeals to his skills.

It could've been better if was shorter. It has a slow rythm until the action begins.

Brody is fine. I don't mind the clichè story.

I expected a little more, but seeing Mel Gibson and the usually good Walton Goggins was fun enough. And the movie has the merit of trying something original.

I expected nothing and still was disappointed.
9 January 2022
The first Matrix was a good music video: aesthetics and interesting scenes under a collage of ideas intended to be something original. The second movie was way below expectations, and the third was lousy.

The first film elevated the Wachowski brothers to the status of Hollywood demigods, and they remain so, despite having failed to do anything in more than two decades. Perhaps because what matters to North American cinema today is only aesthetics and progressive catchphrases, and not coherent plots. Situation to which the aforementioned directors have a significant contribution.

This new film begins with complete self-reference, telling the viewer how he should understand the trilogy, as this was a revolt against the oppressive system; a manifesto in favor of sexual freedom and against capitalist exploitation. But he also seems to know that he really became known, after all, for his main visual innovation: the so-called bullet time.

Lana #Wachowski directs this film without the brother-in-a-dialogue, she inserts that the film was only made by pressure from Warner Bros. (some think it's daring, but it's just silly) - and forces your hand on pseudo-philosophy. The most repeated word is "binary"; when presented with two possibilities, the characters say "Is this a choice?" As in the trilogy, the argument boils down to a pretentious litany.

Despite this, it is possible to reach the end of the film by putting aside any attempt to understand it and waiting for the action scenes, which, in turn, with nothing to present again, are mediocre at best.

Speaking of mediocre, Keanu Reeves (Neo) is really an interesting case: a below-average actor with immense charisma. Their dialogues are again kept in single, short sentences, as if the writers were already creating them with their limitations in mind.

Without the appeal of innovation, Matrix Resurrections is irrelevant, and will vanish from mind within minutes of its completion.

Very Good

A very good western movie.

Tim Blake Nelson is great.

The tension grows in a good pace until de decisive clash.

Stephen Dorff is also very well in his role.

A simple, well executed movie which shows that easily beats any last blockbusters.

Good for Killing Time

It's an acceptable movie that needed a better plot explanation and ending.

Butler's acting is almost the same of Den of Thieves, but it fits well in this movie.

Slow and Confusing

The best thing of the movie is the photography, but it alone cannot sustain the interest in a slow and confusing story.

Better than the first for sure
8 August 2021
The movie started fine for what it is. Jokes were ok.

The main problem is to give too much space for Harley Quinn. They're trying a very hard sell with her. Idris Elba is the best thing on the screen. Even for a movie as this, he delivered.

The reasonable good start loses steam as it progresses and the action is substituted for some unnecessary character build.

From middle to end it becomes a mess.

It can be enjoyable if you just want to spend some time.

Not that much
7 August 2021
The movie is an acceptable suspense for its modest production, but not enough to be so highly praised. One thing to praise is Stephen Lang's acting.

Before watching, because many classified it as an horror movie, I thought there was some kind of supernatural force in the house beyond the blind man.

There's a twist, which is not bad, but the ending is a letdown.

The three thieves are so uncharismatic that you can easily root for the blind man (until certain point) despite the plot trying to justify - at least - Rocky's actions.

Of course you have to desconsider all the stupid decisions the trio takes soon before and after things go downhill.

Not Great Not Terrible
24 July 2021
The movie doesn't take itself serious neither should you.

It's not a bad movie, but Salma Hayek's constantly cursing screams are hard to endure. Very repetitive, not fun and tiresome.

I don't remember completely the first movie, but in this, Reynold's character is a complete whinner.

Sometimes the pratical jokes resemble the old Leslie Nielsen's cop movies.

A great story of love, kindness, abnegation and duty.

It's way above of what Western animation has produced in moral sense.

A good movie with the expected holes in the plot which takes its inspiration from Heat. The shooting scenes are very well done and worth it alone.
