Ghosted (2023)
Plain feel-good romcom-action movie
The blend of romcom and action might be slightly odd.
But the stress faced during a secret agent mission reflects tensions that a couple might find themselves in when arguing.
Indeed, it is a straightforward and unsurprising movie, but after watching it, I felt good.
The actors were definitely a joy to look at. The cheesy, familiar and predictable jokes reinforce one's self-confidence, and reminds of the simple pleasures of life: that they are within reach; we just have to be present.
It's got over-the-top romance, impulsiveness, and even the occasional unsavory comment, which again reflects real life. But it also shows us that every moment is an opportunity to be noticed, seized, and enjoyed, and that life is finite.
High Road (2011)
The comedy was too subtle
I struggle with addiction (fortunately, the social media kind, rather than chemical).
This movie helped me imagine what one extreme of my behavior would be like (short-sighted behavior in general, not just what was depicted).
Unfortunately, I believe this was not the purpose of the movie. I was expecting a laugh, but got just a few chuckles in what felt like a fever dream of repugnant behavior.
The problem was, I could relate with the characters. I never expected this to be a problem in a movie, but here the situations were not a laughing matter. I could not get through it.
Overall, I feel conflicted. I thank it for the motivation to get my life in order. But I did not find it funny. I found it a notch too realistic.
Law & Order: Privileged (1995)
Loose end?
At the end of the episode, the accusation of killing the woman is dropped as self-defense, however the one of killing her husband is held.
Suppose you are defending yourself from person A. Then person B wakes up and stops you from defending yourself. Doesn't that mean person B is attacking you as well?
Shouldn't both count as self-defense?
