A Quiet Place (2018)
Lacks a good ending
There's a really good ambiance construction throughout all the movie. The use (or lack of) sounds, voice and communication is really intriguing and very well exploited by John Krasinski.
Thing is, as soon as momentum begins to build, the movie ends. Could have extended the frightening experience for the audience, as it end comes in a very unexpected and thoughtless way.
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
Full of emotion, but not drama
At its first 30 minutes, "The Best Years of Our Lives" summarizes the dynamics of 3 servicemen returning back to their families after the war is over. Intriguing are the expectations and the fear they hold within their hearts. Fear of being forgotten, of being replaced by another person.
Another angle widely explored in the movie would be their (re)adaptation from life in campaign to the life in the cities. Things are not the same they were when they were deployed, and they must accept they will never be, as the construction of a new life with their families begins.
"The Best Years Of Our Lives" is a rich portrait of the American post-war scenario, full of emotion, but not drama. For those who would like to experience the 40's in the United States, this movie will do the job just like a time machine would.
L'illusionniste (2010)
Romantic french art at its best
"L'Illusioniste" is a hand-drawn animation guaranteed to touch your heart in a highly infant, childish manner. The film's photography is simply stunning, kept simple but full of emotion in every line and color combination. Europe is comically portrayed in its stereotypes and particular habits and cultures.
The storyline is touching, portraying the hard life of those who pursuit a living through the ways of art. The silver lining, though, is brightly highlighted, as the main character gets to travel through lots of places, as well as meeting new people. Parental love is later introduced, when the magician allows a little child to embark on his journey through Europe.
Highly recommended, L'Illusioniste is a masterpiece that will bring your mind back to the early years of your childhood.
Garden State (2004)
A new way of seeing family and love
Garden State is that kind of movie that stimulates your feelings at each moment and puts you into deep thought about your life, your behavior towards friends and family, and the choices you make in life.
This isn't the kind of movie where you'll find a lot of action, but instead you'll find yourself completely immersed in the characters' universe, comparing your way of life with the main character's, wondering about their issues, their flaws and their way of getting by.
Garden State encourages the dialog between viewer and cast, bringing you along in all the way through Largeman's homecoming, changing forever your way of seeing your relationship with your family and your loved ones.
