Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Plan 99 (2023)
Season 2, Episode 16
10/10
Epic Finale.
5 April 2023
I watched the final 3 episodes in one go and was quite simply blown away by all 3 but episode 16 was off the charts. One of the best star wars related pieces in quite some time. Gripping, tense and emotional with a well written and brilliantly staged set piece. My ageing brick of a heart was on the cusp of bursting but i'll leave that comment there for a none spoiler. Yes, there has been a couple of lacklustre episodes to keep the kids happy but overall the series has been top notch stirring up a nice 'bigger picture' storyline in the background. Mandalorian, take note...the Batch has just rased the bar.

The Last of Us: When We Are in Need (2023)
Season 1, Episode 8
10/10
Gripped.
7 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone giving this any less than a score of 7 or 8 was watching something different to the rest of us. I was gripped from start to finish as I have been for the entirety of the show. I gave it a 10 based on how I felt at the end credits also based on its own individual merit. I never got to see this far in the game as my then haggered PS3 couldn't handle it. And like a good book I suppose if you know what's coming the 'live action 'version won't quite live up to the expectation so I kind of understand people's slight negativity towards the shows depiction of the cannibalistic group/cult (I say 'cult' because it definitley isnt religiously motivated). But now being out of the loop (as it were) and seeing it for the first time, it really is a class piece of television.

I'm not going bang on page after page, I'll the negativity police do that. I just had to write something in reply to the low marks people have given it for the absolutle obscurest of reasons which I wont get into. If you haven't watched Last of Us, get it watched. If you haven't played Last of Us, get it played. But if you come out of episode 8 with anything less than a stunned silence you need to be watching something more cultured like love island or naked attraction.

PS. Bella Ramsey take a bow. Absolutley sterling performance.

Tenet (2020)
8/10
When the penny drops!
2 September 2020
Inception is in my top 5 movies of all time, as is Dark Knight and Interstellar. I think Tenet may just about slip into the top 10 with a no doubt higher spot on my list after a few more views. Not because I'm a Chris Nolan fan boy (because Dunkirk doesnt do it for me at all) but I love the sense of impending doom in these movies that Nolan is so good at, and Tenet nails it. You're watching a straight forward (but very good) crime, heist style thriller for 50 mins to an hour, and when the penny finally drops, along with your pop corn and the rest of the audiences jaws, the movie slips into a gear that can only be described as.......well I cant describe it!! I've never seen anything like it. Absolutley mind blowing concept, epic visuals, phenomenal soundtrack, sensational set pieces, and award worthy performances (even Pattison, roll on The Batman). Like Inception before it I'm pretty sure there'll be stories within stories and twists and turns that I'm unaware of yet, hense my 2nd viewing being already booked for the coming weekend. Brain fodder for the thinking persons cinema goer.

Why bother?
4 December 2019
Theres a few marvels I haven't bothered with. 1. Because I'm not a band wagon jumper onner. 2. Because I started getting bored around iron man 2. 3.it annoys me that the only thing people go and see them for, is the post credit scene. 4. I werent that bothered about 'the endgame' before it was called Endgame. And 5. They're not that good anyway!!! However, after swallowing some amount of humble pie and admitted that Endgame is a right good romp and a fine example of the summer blockbuster that the likes of Michael Bay have over produced, rinsed and ruined over the past eon, I have taken to catching up on some of the pre-endgame marvel movies (that prior to popular belief dont enhance the endgame experience) Captain Marvel being one. I wouldn't say that captain marvels role in endgame is pivotal,*potential spoiler* but after the big entrance toward the end I thought this definitely warranted a viewing of it to see how this beauty came to having such epic powers. To say I was disappointed would be 'inevitable' to say the least. Another 'thrown together' piece of heartless tat with about as much story and character building as a phone book with missing pages. Irrelevant to the Infinity saga, out of place in the 'current' marvel universe and overall a genuinely poor movie which to me is only slightly redeemed (and I use that term very, very lightly) by 'i cant believe I'm actually saying this' the post credit scene, a fanboys wet dream, which marvel studios are the marketing masters of. It's a shame that marvel have made such candy floss out of this opportunity that they have arcitecttured so well with so many of these movies to tie them all together, however it doesn't take anything away from Endgame whether you have seen this, or any of the other (some poor, some not) marvel efforts or not. Avoid this one though!!!

Joker (I) (2019)
10/10
Uncomfortable,Disturbing,Genius!
9 October 2019
I haven't sat through the entire credits in stunned silence since ''let the right one in" baring no resemblance to this movie whatsoever I was left completely speechless as to what I'd just witnessed. The term masterpiece is thrown around alot these days but Jaquin's nailed on performance of one of society's forgotton tormented souls that inevitabley arcs into the fragile but brutal criminal psychopath we know as the joker is understatedley 'perfect' to a level where the viewer is left to almost encourage Aurthur's inevitable wrong doings and sucker you into morally second guessing yourself with 'is he actually doing wrong?' I could go on but there are many other reviews for you to read that will say everything I would have said about the cinematography, music, sound, direction, set pieces, un-nerving tension, the violence, the twists and every other reason we love movies which Joker pulls off so so well. If you've not already booked to see it just drop what your doing and book. Just dont expect a superhero movie.

very generously O.K
5 August 2007
Being an avid simpsons fan since day one and waiting many anxious years for this, I came out of the cinema on Saturday night feeling very let down by this only slightly entertaining money spinner. The cinema was ram packed with people of all ages and as I sat down in anticipation I thought I was going to be blown away with simpsons gold. I was wrong! As a simpsons fan it was O.K, and thats a generous O.K. Im not claiming to be of higher IQ than most people but whilst most of the cinema was roaring at homer falling through the roof and poking his eye with a hammer,I couldn't help but want for some of the clever risqué adult humour which the simpsons did so well in the earlier seasons(and got away with) but 98% of The jokes in it where just at best lame physical slapstick jokes aimed at under 10 year old kids. I love the simpsons and although since season 6 or 7 the writing has been below simpsons brilliant original standard I watch it every week (including re-runs) but couldn't help feeling like homer summed it up in the first 5 mins by saying 'why would people want to pay money for something they get free at home?.
