Excellent 80s slasher flick !
8 July 2005
I saw this movie in the mid 1980's (along with all the other stalk n slash movies of that period). This little gem is now available in the UK on budget priced DVD and is well worth checking out. Good direction, casting and an interesting plot make this excellent viewing for fans of this horror sub genre ! Even though this film does not have any "Hollywood stars" in it - the general level of acting is far superior to many of the other low budget slasher flicks of this period (many of them were dire...) This film is beautifully photographed and makes excellent use of its "Big old house" location. Check this movie out - NOW !!!

Killer Fish (1979)
Fishy fun in Brazil - 1970's style
30 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I love this movie!!! We are talking "double cheese" here 1970's style. I saw this film many years ago on TV - I was a huge fan of Lee Majors in the "Six million Dollar man" - and it was great to see him in action taking on Jewel thieves/sexy models and Nasty killer fish in this low budget gem. The Brazilian background is really cool along with the 1970's fashions. The theme song performed by disco Diva Amii Stewart is catchy and the overall acting is ridiculously fun !! You don't get to see the actual killer fish very much but this only adds to the overall tension of the picture. A funny scene where "Ollie" - the fat photographer who gets eaten by the Piranha fish is really hilarious and a classic B Movie sequence. I am now a proud owner of the film on DVD and it stands proudly in my collection of B movie killer fish movies

Not the best in the series but.......
30 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
JAWS the revenge was released in 1987 and, as a huge fan of the JAWS series could not wait to see it...... How disappointed I was !! It is unbelievable that a major film studio can invest so much money and talent in a film like this and make such a botch job of it !! Lorraine Gary puts in a string performance as the now widowed Ellen Brody (Roy Scheider sensibly kept his distance after JAWS 2). Lorraine Gary is an excellent (and underused) actress. Michael Caine is OK as the maverick pilot Hoagie - He seems to be enjoying himself(and the free trip to the Bahamas where most of this picture was shot). The actual shark is the worst in the series - you can often see the mechanics working the shark and when it is shown "swimming" in the water it just seems to be "bobbing up & down". The ending of the film Just makes no sense whatsoever and is ludicrous. On the plus side - The musical score by Michael Small is excellent and the photography is also impressive. I have bought this film on both Video & DVD - To complete my collection. Over the years I have actually "warmed" to it - but it will go down in cinema history as one of the weakest film sequels of all time.

Snowbeast (1977 TV Movie)
Enjoyable romp in the Snow !!
30 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I remember seeing this made for TV movie many years ago when I was a kid and thought it was a great little B Movie. I have looked for it on video over the years and was really pleased when it was finally released on DVD here in the UK. The production values and photography are great for this kind of low budget movie and the director keeps the tension going without showing to much of the actual "snowbeast" which actually looks like a man in a cheap snow creature costume. The cast of well known TV actors do a good job and Sylvia Sydney is great as the owner of the ski resort who wants to dismiss the killings for fear of losing holiday makers (very similar to JAWS. The actual killings are handled routinely and actual on screen violence is virtually unseen. Overall -a good addition to the string of "creatures run amok" films of the 1970's.

Its no "JAWS" but still highly entertaining !!
15 November 2004
I missed this movie on its original release way back in 1977 (?) - I was really pleased when I found out it was (finally) getting the DVD treatment. The DVD finally arrived last week and I settled down with beer in hand to watch.... Well - It certainly is no JAWS movie - very little shark attack action at all - more of a soft porn movie with a few shots of a large Tiger Shark swimming around. It is beautifully photographed and the underwater shark shots are cool but that is about all....We get one attack sequence that is obviously a homage to the JAWS opening sequence -but it is certainly not of the same standard. Not a bad little movie if you like a double dose of "cheese" - pleased I bought it for my collection but it will never be hailed as a Shark "classic" !! Give it a go - you may like.... ??

Fright (1971)
Classic British Horror flick !!
9 November 2004
I remember seeing this cult British flick many years ago and remember how it sent genuine chills up my spine..... Susan George gives a brilliant performance as the young, tormented babysitter in this very atmospheric chiller. Ably supported by stalwart British actors (George Cole, Dennis waterman & the ever fabulous Honor Blackman. Some of the dialogue is rather "hammy" and check out the hilarious "dancing" in the nightclub - LOL. Apart from these small points this is a very well crafted little thriller. This film is now available on region 1 DVD and is well worth investing in if you love cult horror movies. Turn out the lights, lock the door and sit back and prepare for "FRIGHT" !!!!You won't be disappointed !!!

Cool B movie
31 October 2004
This is a real cool B movie that delivers the goods !!! William Girdler also made the very entertaining GRIZZLY in 1976. The cast do a good job and the direction is solid. Leslie Nielsen put in a good strong performance as an unhinged kinda guy and once again , poor Susan Backlinie does sterling stuntwork as the victim of wolves and vultures (the vulture attack sequence is the highlight of the movie and splendidly done. The score by Lalo Schifrin is creepy and atmospheric and adds a neat touch to the overall "feel" of the film. I am lucky enough to own the original Warners UK video release and would love to get hold of the R1 DVD.

Deep Red (1975)
profondo Spectacular !
8 October 2004
I am a huge admirer of Dario Argento - His films are pure brilliance !! Without a doubt, Profondo Rosso/Deep Red is one of the finest moments of his career, A pure blend of fabulous music/bizarre characters/stylish camera work/fine acting. this movie is the last word in stylish cinema of the 1970's. The climatic ending of the film is extremely startling and Clara Calamai portrays the twisted "harridan" mother brilliantly. David Hemmings and Daria Nicolodi also give strong performances that complement one another. The Region 1 DVD is superb - the picture and sound quality are top notch considering the age of the film.

Shark Attack 2 (2000 Video)
Silly but fun
15 September 2004
I love creature flicks - especially Shark movies ! I had already seen the original "Shark Attack" film and just had to see this follow up ! As direct to video movies go - it ain't that bad - some neat underwater photography and shark attack sequences - The acting is pretty lame but this is not exactly "Oscar" material !Some of the actual shark effects are pretty hilarious - they almost look inflatable and at one point the shark looks like a small "wind up" toy you would play with in the bath ! Overall - not bad for a night in with your mates and a few beers !!
