The Killer (2023)
Snoozer
Who'd expect that Fincher and Fassbender collaboration can be this dull? It falls flat on every level, it does not have a real plot, and it's boring as hell! I had to force myself to finish the movie expecting that something actually might happen.
It doesn't. Nothing happens. Long, extending scenes of the main character narrating, travelling all over the world, killing everyone except the person who he was suppose to kill? The end was as disappointing as the whole movie!
Fassbender's acting is one of the only two positive things here. The other is the cinematography. Everything else is forgettable!
The Man from Toronto (2022)
Painful to watch!
The most stereotypical movie I've seen in years! It hurts my brain just by watching this mush and listening to the screechy Kevin Hart's voice! The screenwriters should return their paychecks. Awful!
The Terminal List (2022)
Captivating!
I don't usually do reviews here, but for these series I felt it's a must! The storytelling is almost superb (with few forgiving details) and the pacing is like a rollercoaster - from explosive action to reminiscing about the past to all unexpected twists and turns.
Pratt is excellent as troubled super NAVY SEAL Commander who ain't shy of doing what is necessary to do in order to avenge his family and fallen comrades. At first, I was of opinion that there were too many flashbacks, kind of breaking the continuity of the current action. However, as the story developed further, I found it quite fitting to give Pratt's character more plasticity and more needed justification for his vendetta. The war machine was broken, emotionally, mentally and physically, and we, as viewers, were rooting for Commander Reece to get back on his feet and exact swift justice! And he has delivered it with resilience, stubbornness and often brutality! Some scenes aren't for the weak of heart.
Highly recommended!
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
A wannabe Tarantino
Ok, ok, it has few nice twists and unexpected turns, but it dragged on forever! If they could've condensed the movie from 2:13 to 1:45 running time, it would've been more effective and more existing and more engaging. Great job by the acting crew, btw, especially Jeff Bridges! He is the glue between the characters and the plotline!
Kate (2021)
Horrible
I like Mary Winstead, but she was completely miscast in this horrible movie! There's nothing even remotely interesting, intriguing or entertaining about the hollow film that is a mashed copy of several other movies. The only positive aspect were the visual effects and the camera movement during the fight scenes... And the fact that was taking place in Japan.
I gave this movie a fair chance, but halfway through I couldn't take it anymore - it's that bad!
Bosch (2014)
Amazing!
This is top notch high-quality production at its best! Titus is embodiment of Bosch, a hardened contemplative titular character who stops at nothing to deliver the justice.
I also appreciate the subplots and the political behind the scene ploys that give that often missed plasticity to the narrative, so one can indulge into a full scale procedural unlike any other.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
For the love of game!
I was tearing up at the end of it!
Such an intriguing tale of an orphaned young girl (and chess prodigy) that goes through whirlpool of changes in her short life to become the most respected and feared chessplayer in the world!
It is a Cinderella story in a way, but with a cerebral twist and plenty of emotional intelligence.
Anya Taylor-Joy gives an electrifying performance as a troubled wunderkind who fights her inner demons and overcomes many heartbreaking events that had almost lead her to the brink of self-destruction.
It is also a sincere heartwarming homage to the game of chess and the people who have dedicated their entire lives to it.
It's beautifully filmed and the screenplay, while at moments feels a bit slow paced, as chess sometimes can be, is in fact captivating and engaging.
Operation Finale (2018)
It is veey well worth watching
I've read many of the reviews stating that this was a movie that didn't portray the horrors of Holocaust in its full appalling varity. I disagree. This was a slow burn thriller about a group of people who risked their lives in order to capture and transport Adolf Eichmann, one of the leading figures of the Nazi regime and the "Architect of the Final Solution".
It was deliberately done to take its time and show the Mosad squad being tortured by their own past and their own demons, while trying their best to deliver Eichmann to face justice in Israel.
The storytelling was tense and it was well acted, as it was also interesting to see the two main characters interacting on a more humane level.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)
Killer screenwriting!
I've been Aaron Sorkin's fan ever since "The Social Network". And he didn't disappoint this time around either! The story is carried across in a very dynamic and captivating way so much so that you'd be surprised realising that you reached the end of the movie. I wouldn't call this a courtroom drama, since it's much more than that. Sorkin has managed to take us back to the events of Chicago protests in 1968 through the trial's aftermath of it and that shows how great storyteller he had become. It is astonishing to find out how much Nixon's era resembles Trump's era.
Highly recommended!
Cobra Kai: No Mercy (2019)
I was kept at the edge of my seat!
Rarely a show would make me want more and this is one of them. The second season finale was engaging and gripping, so much so that I was blown away by the level of its execution.
And this finale leaves so many open questions about what's gonna happen next. Cannot wait for the next season!
Now You See Me 2 (2016)
So lame!
What is wrong with the Hollywood writers lately?! There is a multitude of bad scripts and this movie is based on one of them. The ploy is convoluted and barely believable and the acting is subpar.
I lost interest in the movie within 30 minutes.
Pure crap!
Snowpiercer (2020)
Trainwreck!
I loved the movie and hence, I was expecting something along those lines. Boy, was I wrong!
Why even bother producing series that has such a weak script, bad dialogue and mediocre acting by trying to benefit from the movie of the same title?! I am truly amazed by the same BS being done with most of the Netflix production lately (few exemptions aside).
Don't waste your time with it!
Extraction (2020)
Cool action flick!
Bangladeshi are downrating this movie because it shows Dhaka in a bad light. Have you people seen how other Hollywood movies portray other places in the world, unless they are in Western Europe? Calm down and rate the movie and not the misrepresentation of your beloved country.
So, back to the movie...
Very well done action scenes, with a weak plot and somewhat dry dialogue. The barely believable turning point in the main character's behavior (from merciless mercenary to empathetic "father") drags downa bit the whole movie towards the end. On the other hand, we've seen this rather inexplicable motive already in the "Equalizer" and "Safe", where the main protagonists "turn soft" and show their human side.
At the end, I like seing Hemsworth going Rambo utilizing John Wick's combat style! Impressive!
Knives Out (2019)
Disappointment
This is a typical failure of a weak and lazy screenwriting. What a waste of such a diverse ensemble of great actors!
Even though this movie was intended to be a parody of the sleuth genre, the plot could've been deeper and more thought off. Half of the family didn't have any reason to kill the patriarch, at least not a solid one.
The development of the story was lagging sufficiently and it was not leading to the final build up like in a classic whodunnit movie. Oh, and the dialogue wasn't on the expected level. Just flat, with no witty exchanges and no ingenious revelations on the behalf of the Daniel Craig's character. Man, I miss the good old movies with a spirit and soul! This one has none!
