Visually Stunning
9 May 2021
The scenery in this movie is beyond beautiful. I admired its every second, it's a visual feast. Cinematography is amazing. Apart from these, I loved how this very long movie was divided into three parts thanks to which the viewers can see each character's aspect. This makes the movie quite engaging, I didn't get bored for a second during over 2.5 hours. Acting is good, directing is phenomenal (Park Chan Wook!) and the story is so creative and different. An elegant and classy masterpiece.

A surprisingly good Netflix movie
22 April 2021
I had no expectations from this movie despite its superstars cast as my experience with Netflix movies hadn't been well so far. I finally decided to watch it since I wanted to watch some of the best picture nominees. And it is - surprisingly - really good! Acting is superb; the actor playing the judge is so amazing that I wanted to punch him every time he appeared on screen, the seven plus one defendants, lawyers, everybody acts so well. Storytelling is really good, the whole movie flew smoothly although I had no idea about how the US courts work.

Not a romantic comedy
21 April 2021
I don't know why people are saying that this movie is one of the best rom-coms made in the recent years because I don't see romance at all. I didn't root for the main couple for a second and their love seemed far from being realistic or believable. The whole story was full of cliches and actually non-sense. I only enjoyed the movie as if I was watching a Singapore tourism office ad and gave 6 stars solely for the stunning images of Singapore. Lastly, I didn't understand why none of the main cast was Singaporean or even tried to speak with Singaporean accent. Given that overall acting was quite bad in the movie, I didn't get why these people were cast for roles they clearly were not fitting.

The Prestige (2006)

Another Nolan masterpiece
20 April 2021
The Prestige has a magnificent story full of plot twists. The storytelling is amazing, how it plays with words and your mind, just brilliant. All actors' performances are outstanding, but I admired Christian Bale the most. Cinematography and the atmosphere created is marvelous. Worth to watch more than once.

Depiction of brutality of war
20 April 2021
This movie is a true masterpiece. It should be one of the saddest and most heartbreaking movies I've ever watched, I think I cried during almost the whole movie. It's brutal, shows the reality and cruelty of war objectively. Although it took me a while to recover from this movie, I recommend it to everyone, it's a must watch for every human being.

Should be the worst best picture winner
20 April 2021
This movie is really terrible, don't waste your time thinking that it is an Oscar winner and should be worth to watch. It's cheap, just trying to touch popular issues of the society in the most shallow way possible, and offers disgusting and creepy romance. I can't tell how much I was disappointed when this movie got the Oscar. Since then I'm hopeless about the film industry.

Scrubs (2001–2010)
10/10
Comedy, drama, fantasy, romance and more
20 April 2021
If Scrubs was a sit-com, I'd say it's the best sit-com ever. But it's not a sit-com, and I can't define Scrubs in a single genre: It's super funny, sometimes fantastic and dreamy, sometimes a real drama, sometimes it makes you literally cry for minutes, sometimes sarcastic, sometimes goofy. I enjoyed all 8 seasons a lot and loved every single character. It's one of the rare TV series that I watched till the end. When I feel depressed, I still watch a random episode to feel better, it's a mood booster.

A refreshing yet classic romantic comedy
20 April 2021
I hadn't even remembered the last time I watched a classic but good romantic movie, then I watched Palm Springs. It's a classic romantic movie but in a refreshing way, it's unpredictable, funny and highly entertaining. It exceeded my expectations from a romantic comedy, I really loved it.

Disappointment
20 April 2021
First of all I'm a big Nolan fan, so I'm normally happy with him playing with the timeline, even with the exposition scenes and complicated plots. But this movie is different, it's so confusing that I felt like the story doesn't make sense at all. At some point I lost all my interest and desire to understand what was going on and just watched the action scenes. If everything had a perfect explanation and there was no plot holes-although I highly doubt it- it's still not a good movie as it can't manage to tell the story well to the audience. I still gave 8 stars due to the high production costs, all the efforts made for the actions scenes but honestly I don't think it deserves more than 6-7.

Spirited Away (2001)
10/10
Best animated film ever
19 April 2021
I watched this movie quite late, in 2020, and despite the lack of fancy animation techniques, despite the 19 years passed, I immediately fell in love with it. It made me watch Miyazaki's other works as well, and although I loved them too and eventually became a Miyazaki fan, Spirited Away has a special place in my heart. It lets you in to a magical world, and you forget about the real world till the end. It is so beautifully crafted that it is impossible to not respect and admire the artwork. The messages it gives are really good yet subtle, it doesn't scream them into your face. And it is really touching, not sad but an emotional film; I couldn't stop my tears several times, and I wasn't even sure why I was crying. I love the soundtrack too, One Summer's Day is a masterpiece.

Great show with intelligence and humor
18 April 2021
This show is a rare gem; it talks about problems of the world - not necessarily the biggest problems, although sometimes it tells commonly known issues that affect so many people -, it's sarcastic and very funny. John Oliver is a great comedian and an amazing presenter, he performed very well during the pandemic as well although he had to do the show from his 'void' without audience or staff members. Although I'm not from US, I find the presentation of topics related to US issues interesting as well, but my favorites are the episodes dealing with international problems. I also respect the producers and John Oliver because of crazy things they do to respond to corrupt people or authoritarians. It deserves all Emmys it got.

Cinematography is good, but is that enough?
18 April 2021
I really appreciated the technique and cinematography in this movie, but I don't think this only makes a movie Golden Globe or Oscar worthy. There's no story and there's no depth of characters. I normally enjoy history and war related movies a lot, but 1917 was quite... uneventful and even boring. There are a lot better war movies you can watch.

A very interesting real story
18 April 2021
A shocking unbelievably interesting true story - although I later found out that it was partly twisted to make it more dramatic. Still it's really a good movie that captures you immediately. There's no boring second, you feel all the excitement through the whole movie and you don't notice how long actually this movie is. And I'm not even interested in motor racing or cars. Christian Bale is great in his role showing an Oscar worthy performance. One of the best movies I've watched in the recent years.

The Two Popes (2019)
10/10
A heartwarming movie
18 April 2021
The Two Popes is a simple movie yet very powerful and captivating. I am not a Christian but you don't need to be religious to enjoy this movie. To me it is more about being a human, moral values, being a good person, and friendship. It's a truly heartwarming movie. Dialogues are so well written, even when the two talk about ordinary things, their conversation is so meaningful that can be interpreted in different ways. There's no need to talk about the genius of Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, but although I know how talented these two actors are, I admired them every second of the movie. I also enjoyed that it was a multi-lingual movie, they didn't just simply use English everywhere. I also thought that it had an objective view to Vatican and the scandals most of the time. In my opinion it was the best movie of 2019.

Almost a documentary
18 April 2021
Der Untergang should be one of the most accurate and well made World War II movies. The atmosphere is so depressive and real, you feel like a part of the movie. It is very interesting to witness the last days of Hitler and his close circle. Bruna Ganz plays Hitler incredibly well and believable. A must watch, especially if you are interested in WWII movies.

A dark fairytale in a world with war and destruction
18 April 2021
It's difficult to write a review without giving spoilers for this movie. It is so elegant and beautiful but at the same time brutal and violent. A true masterpiece. Watch it if you want to see the destruction of the Spanish civil war from a little girl's eyes but with an artistic storytelling. The soundtracks are also multiplying the impact of powerful scenes. A must watch.

Brilliant!!!
18 April 2021
This series is a legend to me; so genius, so brilliant. As Irene Adler said, brainy is the new sexy. Story is very well crafted, acting is awesome, dialogues are super smart-and quotable, the soundtrack is amazing. I should admit that the series reached its peak at the season 2 and started to fall after season 3 but even the relatively bad season 3 and 4 are much much better than most of popular shows. A Scandal in Belgravia and The Reichenbach Fall episodes are beyond perfection. It was a great pleasure to watch Steven Moffat's and Mark Gatiss's genius combined with Benedict Cumberbatch's and Martin Freeman's superb acting. I don't think I'll be able to watch such a great Sherlock Holmes adaption ever again.

Just like a documentary - but really really fun
17 April 2021
I really like movies based on true stories but often they are overly dramatized and the real story is twisted to attract viewers. This story in fact happened in front of our eyes yet it is still shocking to watch the details. I'm a fan of the author of the book, Michael Lewis, and the director Adam McKay did an amazing job to make this story interesting to watch for all viewers. Even if you do not know much about the topic I still encourage you to watch. All actors are superb, the movie is trying to engage the viewers all the time and you learn very interesting facts about what really happened before the 2008 economic crisis. This movie is among my all time favorites.

Creative comedy combined with philosophy
17 April 2021
This show is really entertaining and fun, but it's not only playing for laugh. I really enjoyed and learned a lot from the philosophical concept and discussions about ethics and existentialism. Dialogues are very well-written, acting is good, cinematography is amazing. I laughed, felt better, thought about ethics and humanity and improved my philosophical thinking through the 4 seasons. It's just 4 seasons with 12-13 episodes in each season, and run time of an episode is only 20 minutes, so it never gets boring or repetitive.

James May: Our Man in... (2020–2024)
10/10
Funny, informative and natural
17 April 2021
I love James May in general but he's at his best in this show. The show is naturally so funny and entertaining but at the same time it's quite informative. It's obvious that May has great respect to Japan and Japanese culture. It shows different aspects of Japanese culture, both modern and traditional so it's not just another vlog about Japan. May's interactions with local guides are hilarious. I also loved how natural and honest this show is; if things don't work out as expected, May just admits it frankly. If you like learning more about other cultures or if you simply enjoy watching James May, you shouldn't miss this show.

Always entertaining to watch May, Clarkson and Hammond
17 April 2021
I just love watching interactions between May, Clarkson and Hammond. I'm glad they continued their show with The Grand Tour after leaving Top Gear. My personal favorites have always been the specials and The Grand Tour has really good special episodes too. I hope they continue the show, I don't know the plans after season 4. And lastly, you don't even need to be a car enthusiast to enjoy this show, it's super entertaining.

Beautiful scenery, history, culture and more
16 April 2021
I love Michael Portillo's railway journeys in general, but Asia series is one of the best! In addition to showing the beautiful scenery and grand historical places, he also makes great interviews with historians, artists or locals which help you to learn more about the places he travels through. It was great to learn more about the whole history of Southeast Asian countries he's been to, how they became colonies and how they declared their independency eventually. I also enjoyed watching cultural activities, listening to local music and seeing the local food. It's not only enjoying but also informative.

Elegant and beautiful
16 April 2021
I've always thought that a really good plot is an indispensable element to make a great movie, but In the Mood for Love changed my mind completely. It's not that the story is bad of course, but it's quite ordinary, there's nothing special about it. Yet the movie is marvelous! Amazing directing, fantastic cinematography and good acting makes this movie so special. I loved every scene, it's art at it's finest. And the soundtrack is beyond beautiful fitting perfectly with the movie. I imagine not everybody would love this movie, but watching it is really a unique experience. It's not just a romantic movie, it's art of cinema.
