Still Dreaming (2014)
A fun and rewarding experience
Even after years of sedentary life within a retirement home, the talent within each of these individuals is clear and wonderful to witness. "Still Dreaming" reminds me that being active in the pursuit of a passion is essential to happiness. There is plenty of comedy that ensues between the young directors of the play and the former actors and actresses. The playfulness and spirit of everyone involved was refreshing. The older generations have so much to offer and this documentary helps us to keep them in our minds. I also have a greater appreciation of Shakespeare after seeing this film. Beautiful film and highly recommended!
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
Extra Cheese
I am a big X-Men fan but what a disappointment. I grew up on the comics, the cartoon and loved most of the films. X-Men Days of Future Past tries too hard to pack in the emotional layer. I appreciate the 15,000 jobs it created and hundreds of thousands of hours of work...but the script is so weak. I never roll my eyes but this was unreal. When characters were killed I felt no connection due to the weak acting. Jennifer Lawrence didn't seem to be in the right place while filming. The story was so convoluted and the visuals became the only reason to continue on. $200,000,000 and this is what they create. They need to get some new talent injected into this franchise. When I heard people at the end gasp, "oh my God" about Jean being alive...what did they expect? All the X-Men would be alive due to stopping the assassination which thus stops the Sentinels from being created. After seeing Rogue, Storm, Beast...why not Jean? Couldn't they have tried harder? 15,000 people involved with that much money focused could have really made a dent in cancer research rather than another clichéd film.
Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
Visuals never give relief to a poor script.
It is a shame to see $200 million wasted on visuals and a junk script. This is similar to Jack the Giant Slayer in its weak and clichéd story. I am no longer surprised to see a movie like this receiving the green light. Sam and the actors should be embarrassed. From the start, when Francoe enters the film we see the film is overly dramatized. I felt at times I was watching a theater performance. All the actors except Michelle Williams pushed it too far and Mila Kunis was a joke. The tears and the witch look were laughable. The people of Oz lacked any of the enchantment from the actual Wizard of Oz film. That was a tough two hours. Let's hope the public wakes up eventually and stops enabling these poor films.
