Leave the World Behind (2023)
Two families, 1 world gone crazy
A family takes a vacation to a beautiful house in the middle of nowhere, suddenly the "owner" of the house shows up, afterwards all hell breaks lose. No one knows what is going on, but 1 thing is certain, no one trust anyone. Kevin Bacon, Ethan Hawke, Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali keep the story going. The plot is decent, kept together with excellent acting but the end will make you mad that you spent 2+ hours watching it just to get to nothing. I give it a 8 just because it had my attention, but I would like a redo for how it ended. Otherwise a really good story especially in the world of uncertainty that we live in. It is a don't trust anyone, prepare yourself for whatever and be ready to defend yourself against the world, including your friends kind of movie. Many people believe we are living in that kind of world right now, let's hope it never gets to the point that it did in Leave the World Behind.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Strong Women Take Over the Marvel Universe
OK so most of you don't like the movie, doesn't add up to the movies before, too dark. Relax, I believe Marvel has a sequel planned and if I am correct you will will get your answers. The comics have a way of wrapping a nice bow around a storyline, unfortunately the movies can't always do that, at least until the next movie comes out. As for the dark tones of the movie, it is the new direction Marvel is headed based on all of the articles I have read, and based on the characters they are planning on bringing to the screen. Now Marvel will never be DC when it comes to being dark, yet Captain Marvel and now Dark Phoenix didn't have the comedic aspects that we have all become accustomed to. One thing everyone needs to realize, Marvel men were the focal point of most of the past movies, as things progressed you saw the women take a more prominent role. Storm has a darkness, Jean Grey does, Captain Marvel does. Marvel has always been good about capturing the truth of real life situations, the struggle women have had to deal with to become the strong amazing people that they are is something I expect Marvel to address, thus the darker storyline. Give it time and you will see all the aspects that make Marvel the icon that it is.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
I Will Probably Take Heat For My Review
OK, here it goes. The number 1 movie in forever has had high expectations as far back as the beginning of the marvel movie universe, and I completely understand why. The previous movies have always been full of action and filled with all kinds of character development. However this is the final movie on this installment in this particular series. The last movie took several of our favorite heroes. Spiderman is gone, so are Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Groot and Bucky Barnes as well as others. So since so many of our favorites are dead what can we expect from endgame? Well, in the beginning everyone is mourning all the people who have died, unfortunately this takes up about the first 90 minutes of the movie. After we get passed the oh my God I am so sad that everyone died part of endgame we see our heroes set off to find the stones so that they can restore the universe back to the way it is supposed to be. Well Thanos will never allow this to happen, right? Well not exactly. While our friends, the Avengers set off to accomplish the impossible, it almost seems a little bit too easy at first. Sure you have a few issues, but they are the Avengers so they fix the issues rather quickly. Thanos, meanwhile is aware of what is going on and FINALLY takes action after the Avengers find all of the infinity stones. This is at the last 45 minutes or so of the movie. As the action takes place I couldn't help but think it had a Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars kind of feel. Now I won't give away the ending, but I will finish my review by saying that we lose 2 of the most iconic Avengers. Overall I enjoyed the movie, I wish it had less boohoo moments, more resistance and more action, however I am pleased with the finished product. The ending is a little bit sad and several people were crying. Hope you didn't read my review before seeing the movie. Enjoy Marvel Cinema fans. Action 6, plot 6 character development 7, cgi 10, ending 9 overall 8
Aquaman (2018)
Jason Momoa is a great actor
First let me say I was hopeful but not expecting much,DC hasn't had a lot of luck here lately. I must admit however that I was greatly and pleasantly surprised. Aquaman told an excellent story, the pace was perfect and flowed well, it was action packed and yet it had a nice mix of humor and family values. My favorite part of the movie was the reaction of the underwater life at the aquarium when Arthur was threatened, it was heartwarming and showed the great power that he was capable of. My biggest disappointment was that we didn't get a chance to see enough of the black manta, other than that this was definitely the best DC movie to date (calm down wonder woman fans, just my opinion). Hope you enjoy the movie
Bird Box (2018)
Well done and excellent acting
This movie was well done and had some wonderful actors, the acting was excellent but the story is ridiculous. I was able to get past most of the numerous flaws of the movie up until the get in the canoe. Once they arrived at the canoe the whole movie became nearly impossible to watch without wanting to start saying how things would never happen that way or this way. The whole movie is just too perfect in how things worked out for her. It was decent entertainment but not a very good movie. The only reason I rated the movie a 6 is because of the acting. The kids did an amazing job, way beyond their years. John Malkovich is legendary, Sandra Bullock did a very good job holding the story together as did everyone else. If you want a plausible movie, keep looking. If you just want entertainment then watch it and see what you think.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Movie in 3 parts
The first part of the movie is basically a rock video with a little bit of story involved, part 2 of the movie is the biggest part of the movie and here we are taken down a rabbit hole of intrigue, betrayal, depression and self-distruction. This movie betrays what is possibly the greatest vocalist of our time as troubled and highly manipulated. The end, or part 3 of the movie is in some way a slight vindication of the man and the musician. The overall effect of the movie is scattered and jumbled yet also telling and compelling. It is a movie worthy of watching simply for the music. But it also allows you to see inside the mind of a musical genius. Queen will forever be rock royalty and while this movie doesn't live up to the legendary status of the band it gives us all an idea of what it took to elevate themselves to such a prominent place in the world's culture. Queen, the band is a 10/10. The movie at best is a 8/10, for now I will give it a 7.
Malevolent (2018)
More a suspense thriller
As a horror movie it is an OK movie, maybe a 4-5, however as a suspense thriller it is much better. The movie is predictable and it doesn't really scare you yet the character development is good and the story is solid. Overall it is worth watching.
