Binged it, and binge cried the whole time
3 April 2023
I didn't realize when I started this show that I would be finishing it the same day. I couldn't stop watching, it was fascinating and full of heart. I also figured it'd be sad but I wasn't aware that I'd be reaching for the tissues the whole time. Look, I know not every hospital is perfect and watching this might only show the best side of EMS and hospital frontliners. But I truly believe this docuseries does a great job at unveiling the heart and passion of why these frontline medical workers chose this career path. And the patients and patients' families are as real as it gets. Great show. Highly recommend, especially l if you want to spend a full day crying.

It's watchable but has some identity issues...
7 March 2023
Mmkay. So it's definitely not what I expected after watching the trailer but it's not a bad movie. I was entertained. But I felt like this movie didn't know what it wanted to be and that's my biggest problem with it. It's a James Wan movie so you expect the jump scares and the creepy vibe while you're trying to figure out the twist ending. While they achieved all that (although I did figure out the "twist" within the first 20-30 mins), I felt like the movie was trying to be more serious than the plot line/twist ending would allow for. It should have been less serious and more of a horror comedy? But they went the "serious" route. Which kind of made me roll my eyes and shake my head. The creature design was cheesy, the CGI was cheesy, the acting was cheesy, the plot twist was cheesy, yet the vibe was serious and trying to be scary which I just thought didn't mix well. And that's my biggest problem with it. Again, I wasn't mad I watched it but I just thought the execution was off.

What happened?!
16 October 2022
Okay who okayed this script? Why would they do that?? Did they leave the writing room proud... like they were about to make a masterpiece? I'm genuinely wondering if they were trying to troll us. The other two movies were an amazing reprisal of the franchise. They had all the things I wanted in a modern Halloween movie, yet they failed soooo hard with this movie!

Look I'm not saying the movie isn't watchable. I did like the end. But the rest of the movie is NOT a Halloween movie. The writers should know that when we pay to see a Halloween movie, we're paying to see Michael Myers be Michael Myers. That's not what's going on with this movie. They straight up Game of Thronesed us here with this third movie. Not cool.

Great watch! Unique and powerful. Hopefully we get a season 2?
16 October 2022
Set in the early-to-mid nineties, The Midnight Club is a unique film in the way that it's almost a coming of age tale, but instead it focuses on the morbid reality of young adults with terminal illnesses who have chosen to stay in a hospice, sort of waiting to die, but find that they're actually living their best life, or what's left of it. They form a club where they secretly meet in the library at midnight and tell ghost stories to each other. With the arrival of our man in character Ilonka, we find out there's a little more to this house than anyone has let on and she's determined to see if it's a key to a cure for herself and her new friends.

By the end of the first episode, I knew I was hooked. I had no idea this was a Christopher Pike story (an author I had read as a child). Then, of course, falling into the hands of Mike Flanagan is a win-win. Loved it. There were episodes that actually made me cry. It's more deep and meaningful than his other work. Yes, there are ghosts. There's a creepy vibe to the house and it's history. But mostly we're focused on the characters and their stories. Some of their stories are scary. Some of them are deep and beautiful. Some of them are even a little cheesy. But almost all their stories are gripping and original. I loved this show for its creativity and deeply dark undertones. And the ending leaves it open... there's more story there and I'm hoping for another season!

The Midnight Club: Anya (2022)
Season 1, Episode 7

Grab the tissues, this is a good one.
16 October 2022
This one is great. The actress who plays Anya did a beautiful job and I loved it.

The story telling is great and will have you laughing one minute, crying the next. It's powerful and meaningful. You don't really know what's coming until the end. And the end blew my mind. The way this episode was written just pulls you to the story and makes you feel like you're actually there.

Anya's a great character who's a real hardass, and this episode shows the true love and pain she feels deep down. The life she's lived has been difficult and you're there with her during this episode.

There's some real "Jacob's Ladder" elements going on here. I loved how they did this. I was actually in tears at end.

Deep and meaningful episode
16 October 2022
This one might be my favorite story told by the group. And they way they do it is a little different, but that makes it all that more powerful and emotional. Such a great concept. At the end, it all ties together beautifully. I loved how it was so creepy throughout and had the audience really questioning what is going on here. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. And it gives you a little more perspective on one of the characters by filling you in on some of their backstory. It also brings two characters even closer together which is what we all wanted to see anyway. Compelling and meaningful episode with dark but realistic undertones. Loved this one.

Not for everyone, but not bad.
20 August 2022
This is the type of movie... that if you go into it expecting mediocrity you might be a little surprised. But it's barely above mediocre, and that's what you'll get from it. Like I'm okay with seeing it once, and I even enjoyed watching it, but I never need to see it again. It's creepy, sure. It's got some violent parts (but overall I thought the gore was mild). The acting isn't terrible. The underlying message is not original but it's relatable. It think this movie operates based on it's creepy vibe and the ability to keep you guessing until the end. The twist at the end is cool, but nothing that will make you gasp and fall off the couch. Still it achieves surprise. It's worth a watch if you're looking for a foreign horror movie but it's not epic or amazing. It's not for everyone, some might find it boring. But I liked it enough and I wasn't mad that I watched it.

Just depressing... doesn't leave you with a good feeling
20 August 2022
Some movies are depressing and they're still good. But this one just made me feel.. dirty? Maybe that's what they were going for. It's a watchable movie. The plot isn't terrible and the acting is good but just watching the decline of these characters was depressing for no reason and no real payoff. It was hard for me to get through and I watch a lot of dark stuff. It's not for everyone...

Good watch, would recommend
14 August 2022
It's crazy to me that even though I know a decent amount about Warren Jeffs and the FLDS, that I still get shocked watching new docuseries or reading an article. This docuseries was eye-opening and jaw dropping. It's upsetting that these men and women were brainwashed in this way. The doc does a good job explaining what a POS this man was. It's heartbreaking and infuriating as we learn about this bizarre lifestyle these people were forced into. Good doc.

Get ready for some complicated emotions..
14 August 2022
The story delves deep into the murder of a father at the hands of his own son. Most of us agree that if you do the crime, be ready to face the time. The doc explains why this is a difficult situation and there are many shades of gray here, as we start to undercover who this father really was and the reasoning behind this kid's actions. This doc does a good job by explaining what happened when the crime was committed but then gives us background and insight as to why this kid made this poor decision. It will really make you question whether you would have done the same if you were in this kid's shoes. I cried 3 times in the last episode. It's rare we get to see the criminal justice system work for someone in bad situation, and not against them. Would recommend.

Good doc, surprising in areas, but too long
14 August 2022
Okay. Midway through episode 3 I wanted to turn it off, but it reeled me back in. When I first started watching this I was highly convinced of one outcome and then my mind was completely opened to a totally different outcome. It definitely takes a sharp turn. So because of that, I liked it. But there were major things I strongly disliked and I thought ultimately impacted the docuseries.

Firstly, it is WAY too long. I would've accepted 2-4 episodes. That's al we needed. Secondly, the play they continued to focus on. I hated the theater part of it. I after a few episodes I ended up fast forwarding through al of the play/theater parts. Thats not really what I signed on to watch. While I understand why the play was important in the end, I don't think we needed to hear about it so much. They should've just mentioned there was a play and what the play was about and then highlighted why the play was important to some of these people's lives.

But all in all, I liked it. I didn't love it, but it was worth watching. The story is a heartbreaking insight to what happens when the system fails and reminds you that a few bad apples really can ruin many peoples' lives. It reminds us we're not safe from injustice due to greed and pride. None of us are safe.

It hits the spot for a disaster movie, super fun and action packed!
14 August 2022
This movie is better than a lot of disaster movies. It has the action, the suspense, big budget CGI and a somewhat heartwarming back story. The acting is never stellar in these movies but the actors still did a good job nonetheless. If you're looking for a disaster movie, this one will do it for you. I truly enjoyed it and would watch it again.

Absolutely incredible masterpiece

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. The acting is brilliant, the visual effects are gorgeous, but the story tops all of it. AMAZING storyline and spectacular writing. One of the best movies I've ever seen, hands down.

It was fun!
11 March 2022
It's a simple show- quirky, silly and a fun storyline. It will keep you guessing until the end (and somehow I still didn't guess it right). It's got the title of a parody and show makes fun of itself but for the most part it's just a good show with the typical "I witnessed a murder" character but no one believes her. I feel like the writers wanted to write a story like this but it had been done a thousand times so they just kind of turned it into a parody, even though it's sort of it's own thing. They even worked on a little depth to it, especially with the main character's sad backstory. I binged it with my husband, we both liked it. The only complaints I had was sometimes the dark comedy fell flat (although for the most part it still funny) and the last episode seemed to drag and had very little substance to it. Other than that, I definitely recommend it!

Dexter (2006–2013)

Starts great but dies a slow painful death after season 4
18 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show when it came out. Great show, fun concept. Dexter is sort of an antihero who has urges to kill people but channels it towards killing bad people. So he's almost like Batman who murders. He's a sociopathic so he's incapable of feeling a ton a of emotions but he wants to. He tries to blend in by having a normal life. You end up really sympathizing and rooting for his character. It's a good show... at first. The fourth season was CRAZY good and they off a major character which is a total game changer for the seasons going forward. When shows do this... they have to be careful. Because they made that season so good, the show wasn't quite the same after that. There were still some good moments, but they really should have wrapped it up immediately afterward. I could hardly get through some of the later seasons. The plot points were stupid, the main killers weren't great, and then the dropped the last season on us and I couldn't stand any of the characters by the end. It was too bad. I feel like they should have quit while they were ahead. It was a really great show until season 5 started and it all went downhill after that. But worth a watch. Just know that the climax of the series is in season 4 and the show just kind of dies after that.

Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022)
9/10
I think it makes up for the way they ended the last series
18 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So... not a popular opinion but I didn't mind the ending. But we'll get to that.

First off, I loved this season. I loved the way that It came out years later after the original series ended and it's giving the series a second chance, in a sense. You get to see A LOT more of Dexter in this. He seems happy and has a fresh start. Everyone in town loves him. And of course he hasn't killed in several years but he starts back up (obviously, or we wouldn't have a show). This time, he's rusty. He makes mistakes, he's a bit sloppy- so it's a nice new element to Dexter's character. But believable, considering he hasn't done this in a long time.

We get to see Harrison almost grown up, he's a teenager now and that's fun. And I thought the actor did a good job at just being a normal, likable teenager who is obviously pissed at his dad for abandoning him. He also has a little darkness to him, but we find out at the end he's less "serial killer" and more of a troubled kid trying to sort out some dark thoughts that surface every now and then. You can see that Harrison is capable of living a normal life without having the urge to kill people every now and again.

Deb takes Harry's place, sitting around haunting Dexter and trying to be the voice of reason. I LOVED that they did this. It totally redeemed her character for me. I hated Deb in the original series and she just got worse and worse as the show neared it's end. However I didn't like that she killed off at the end so it's amazing that they found a way to bring her back. Jennifer Carpenter did great in bringing out all the best qualities in Deb. It was probably my fav part of the miniseries.

Overall I loved the plot, LOVED the setting (rural, sleepy northern town where everyone is friendly and knows each other, awesome choice), great idea for the antagonist and we even got some surprises song the way (like flashbacks of Rita's death with John Lithgow making an appearance, Baptista makes a cameo, and more). And I loved that Dexter tells Harrison everything and sort starts to train him in the "family business", that's great.

As for the ending, I'd heard it was going to suck. It pissed me off that it was going to suck. So I watched the miniseries bracing for it and when it came, I thought it was fine. I was cool with it. I had some minor discrepancies. Like how is Harrison going to recover from this trauma?? They probably should have had another character shoot him (would've been cooler if it were Baptista). And why exactly did Harrison have to leave town when Angela called it in as an officer involved shooting? I don't think Harrison would've gotten in trouble for that, plus they were already covering it up. Also why didn't Dexter clarify that Logan's death was an accident and not just him killing him in cold blood? But still, I thought it was fine. I've seen worse endings by far, this one was far better then the original end to Dexter. I knew by seeing a "miniseries" called Dexter that... he was probably going to die in the end. I mean Michael C Hall probably wants to move on from this role and while we all tend to agree that Dexter is sort of a vigilante, he still is a murderer. Maybe we could overlook that, but he's also a father and I don't think its realistic that they were going to be some father-son killing team for the rest of their lives. I mean... that ending would have been kind of dumb and cheesy. This was fine, even though there were some problems, I thought it worked.

Seriously though, I enjoyed the series and I'm glad they did this.

Meh.. not his best.
16 January 2022
It was okay. I didn't laugh as much as I've laughed in the past. He's been my fav comedian for years and I feel like this one just didn't have the same spark as the other specials. A lot of people seemed to like it but the jokes just felt mediocre to me. And edgy jokes just felt forced and more like he was going for shock value rather than being funny. There were parts that a laughed out loud but overall I think this standup will probably be pretty forgettable. I am glad to see him back though. Hopefully he keeps writing and putting out specials, and hopefully they're better than this.

It's worth it
16 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I liked it. A lot of people on here are saying that's boring at first but I didn't think so. I thought it was pretty interesting from the first episode and throughout. I will agree it can be long winded in some parts. The story was interesting enough, I could done with a little more story and a little less preaching and talking. The talking just for the sake of character development was a getting a little old after a while. But that's really my only gripe. The story telling was pretty unique, there were some fun twists and turns and they keep you guessing what will happen at the end. The acting wasn't bad, nothing to write home about but still not bad. Overall I though it was pretty good. Not incredible or amazing, Not even great, just exactly "pretty good".

I hated the other suicide squad movie. I hadn't felt disappointed like that in a long time. But THIS. This fixed all of that. And I no longer hate Harley Quinn. Bonus. It's definitely has a guardians of the galaxy feel but it's DC and it's rated R. So yeah. THIS movie. Yes.

This is one of my favorite little horror movies. It's a fun one. If you're in the mood for a newer, more modern type horror movie but still want some gore, this one will hit the spot. I watch this movie probably once a year now. It has its flaws, of course, and the ending is sort of weird lol but overall it's awesome.

I love this movie. It's got comedy, heart, heartbreak, history, a teeny bit of romance and a small amount of action. It's just a great movie. Super unique and well written. I laughed and then cried a little, but then laughed some more-all while on the edge of my seat. This movie left huge smile on my face. Highly recommended.

Fun & Hilarious! Go into it knowing as little you can
13 August 2021
I really liked this movie! It's a fun movie, the people who don't like it are thinking too much about it. The main character is excellent. I've never seen this actress before, but I hope we see more of her. The movie is funny, it's got a satire that I think both major political demographics will laugh at. It's got a little bit of gore, but it's the over-the-top ridiculous kind of gore that will make people laugh and catch you off guard in a comedic way. And the plot line is solid, they did it well. The haters need to chill with this movie. It's fun, you'll like it I promise. Just go watch it.

I liked it! Surprisingly good!
5 June 2021
If you know what you're waking into (many people didn't), I think you'll find HBO did a great job on this. Perhaps the best job they could have done. It kept my attention pretty much the whole time. I learned some new behind the scenes things. And it was fun to see all the actors back together. I was pleasantly surprised. If you grew up with friends, or watched it while it was on, I think you'll be fine with it. Maybe the younger audience wanted an actual show but I don't think that would have been successful at all. Maybe The Office can get away with a comback episode (and I hope they give it a go, fingers crossed!). But not Friends. It should remain where it left off, which is what they did. So this was perfect. Good job HBO!
