The Menu (2022)
Preposterous
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it never happened. I even hoped for a post-credits scene, even though it wouldn't have fixed this disaster. But there's no script, no plot, no moral and nothing good to take from that movie, except a disdain for the cinema as a whole.
"Tyler and his companion Margot Mills travel by boat to Hawthorne, an exclusive restaurant owned and operated by celebrity chef Julian Slowik, located on a private island. The other guests attending the dinner are Lilian, a food critic; her editor Ted; wealthy couple Richard and Anne; George, a post-prime movie star and his personal assistant Felicity; and business partners Soren, Dave, and Bryce. The group are given a tour of the island by the restaurant maitre d'hotel, Elsa, who notes that Margot was not Tyler's designated guest for the evening. The courses and Slowik's accompanying monologues gradually become more disquieting and violent."
Firelight (1997)
Beautiful historical drama
A great movie that would deserve to have a much bigger audience! I don't understand why it's so underrated. It's not unsimilar to Pride and Predjudice and would make a sumptuous BBC mini-series.
But maybe talking about surrogacy and euthanasia is too bold for our time.
The Beguiled (2017)
Disappointing
I was ready for intensity, a harsh atmosphere... I wanted a good movie. That's why I was so disappointed. The acting is good, but the script is inexistent: a soldier comes and upset the quiet life of a bunch of women... Big deal! I don't understand how some people could compare this bad movie to the great Virgin suicides.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Could have been good
This movie was good until the last 15 minutes. I liked the actors, the Amazon country, the characters... I even have a soft spot for David Thewlis and Chris Pine; so I was enjoying myself for two hours. But wtf happened at the end? The laughable fight in the sunset, and the power of love... It ruins all the movie. It would have been so great to finish it without Ares but with a strong message: evil is not a powerful God, it is inside us. Because we are humans, after all. Good and bad people. Just humans.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Surrendering Noah (2015)
What a shame...
Are you kidding me? What does that mean, this non-sense end?
I admit the trial part is quite good, and the Benson/Langman part too (especially knowing that they've got adopted children together in real life). Very touching. But the last five minutes are so disappointing...
Why does Olivia need to destroy her relationship with Elliott Stabler, a 12 years loyal partner which viewers still really love? Especially for Nick, a less than perfect character! It's not at all realistic. And neither are the last sentences, in a ridiculous cheesy tone: "Friends forever"... What are they, 5???
It almost ruins the entire season!
