Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Zach Snyder is Dr. Frankenstein and this is his monster.
This is by far one of the most chopped up movies I've ever seen...by "chopped" up I mean the movie just goes scene to scene without transitions or clear context. I'm not one of these people who are on the Zack Snyder hate-train but I really can't defend him this time, the editing and pacing is just wrong. I also get the feeling that Zach Snyder is not capable of keeping a consistent tone which is why his movies come off as disjointed and awkward. BvS frequently raises your hope and then quickly crushes it because all the neat ideas either fizzle out or just have a really dumb pay off. The only redeeming factor was Batman, quite frankly he's the only character that's actually likable. Superman just comes off as an angry teenager type. BvS is truly a Frankenstein movie...it's a lot of disjointed parts made into one stitched-up movie.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Michael Bay's Star Wars
Star Wars TFA is not a bad movie it's just meh. My biggest gripe with this movie is the blatant hypocrisy among movie goers, because this movie has more in common with the recent Transformer movies than Star Wars. It's a long winded awkwardly paced cgi fest with misplaced humor. When people say this "captures the magic" I really don't know what they're smoking...we must have saw different movies. One of the other major problems with the movie is that all the characters felt the same (few exceptions) this is due to the overly comedic script where people are constantly quipping back and forth and have an observational joke for literally everything. These forced comedic elements really took me out of the film, just by sheer volume alone. However the film has redeeming qualities like Kylo Ren he's just about the only innovation in it, everything else was been there done that better.
Deadpool (2013)
Deadpool would have been better as a short movie
Let's just start off by asking ourselves "what the hell do you expect?". The gameplay is one big joke like the rest of the game, except this joke does not deliver...at all. If you were (for some odd reason) judging Deadpool for just it's gameplay you would automatically associate it with any other generic beat'em up game, the only thing different is that you're Deadpool. I'm now going to rattle off why the gameplay is just awful: the stealth mechanic in only used as a gimmick, dead A.I immediately disappear, the gun-play is bizarre and frustrating, rarely unique enemies, the boss fights are way to easy by most peoples standards, the mini games are the only fun part of the gameplay that's how you know something went wrong, you'll find your self doing the same combo over and over again. The real question is are you willing to trudge through horrible gameplay and outdated graphics to witness Deadpools insane hilarity during cutscenes. I was willing...and trust me you will not be disappointed with them, this is literally the funniest game I've ever played. Deadpool will undoubtedly surprise you with insane to actually really witty humor and cheesy one-liners. Nolan North does a terrific job voicing Deadpool and the cutscenes themselves are really well animated and directed, which makes me come to a conclusion that this really should have been adapted to become a animated flick. Overall if your looking for the next Arkham City go away right now and never turn back, but if you're just looking for a hilarious romp look no farther.
The Last of Us (2013)
This game is great but not flawless.
So I've been reading a lot reviews lately on The Last of Us (obviously) and it seems to me that these reviewers are simply to in love with the characters that they basically will cover up any fault in the game by saying "these problems aren't a big deal" which is bogus because the faults with the game are primarily certain game play elements. Cut-scenes ultimately should not earn a game as much prize as the game play. My first gripe with the game is how predictable the first big chunk of the game is, you can honestly unravel most of how this game is going to go in terms of plot after beating maybe two chapters. The pacing of the first half of the game is questionable because it just really makes you hope the game will take off and be more exciting, but I personally think the game takes a little to long to fully blossom. The game play is the best example of a hit and miss situation here are some examples: The mêlée is brutal and intense but will get tiresome after doing the same animation twenty times, Your companions can't be detected which is fine but also completely stupid, the infected bring intense and scary moments but sometimes the game play mechanics surrounding those moments just feel like they're either glitched are just plainly broken. Overall the best part of the game is simply Joel and Ellie's relationship, the chemistry between them is phenomenal. The voice acting all around is truly top notch and the game is surprisingly lengthy. Multiplayer is tricky because it's good objectively but I did not enjoy it all too much which is based completely off personal preference. So play the multiplayer if your just looking to extend your play time on the Last of Us. My final thoughts are that this game as a whole is great but the game play by itself is just okay.
