The silence speaks volumes
13 November 2022
I must admit, I was so hesitant to go see this movie for so long, but I knew I had to go see it for Chadwick Boseman and, it surpassed all of my expectations honestly. This movie perfectly memorializes Chadwick Boseman and allows his memory to live on. It is a true testament to his character and his hard work and perseverance, and you can really see how much he affected the set, tone, and cast of this movie. It really is the silence that hits the emotions the most and just seeing his presence on the screen knowing that he isn't here physically anymore. This movie truly did him justice and I commend each and every person who worked on this movie as this is one of the few movies I have actually clapped for at the end. Speaking of the end, there is a nice little surprise for everyone! I hope that certain people understand the meaning of this movie and we'll see it as the true masterpiece it is, as it covers so many different bases and emotions. It is quite possibly the only superhero movie that truly humanizes the characters and shows The human experience of morning, grief, moving on, and overcoming suffering and a need for vengeance. It is awesome to see namor finally make his big screen appearance as well, the first mutant is finally here and I can't wait to see what his future is like in the MCU.

I will say that people who are used to super showy superhero films where everybody has powers and such will be a little disappointed if you cannot sit through a movie that has great emotional depth and storytelling. This movie should be at the next Oscars.

Chadwick Boseman is still greatly missed over 3 years since his untimely passing. I truly hope he is getting the rest he deserves and that we see him again someday. Thank you Ryan coogler and company for your tremendous work on this beautiful film.

Purrrrgatory
6 November 2022
I really enjoyed this movie and it definitely has some unique animation. The first part has some really creepy looking stop animation with wooly type characters that all look somewhat unsymmetrical, but you get used to it as the animation still shines through crisply. The second part has robust animation that looks more akin to the real world. Third part purrrfectly combines the previous two styles into one final visually pleasing viewing. I would guess this movie has many meanings but the main meaning I took from it was that we leave ourselves in the state of suffering by worrying so much about material gain and also holding on to the past when the future is ahead. He leaves us in purgatory as we are stuck or frozen in place by fear of moving forward. In this vast sea of life we must find our way and just continue going forward rather than backward.

Black Adam (2022)

The most electrifying man in all entertainment?
21 October 2022
This was a fun movie about a character I have always been fascinated by and I thought it was a pretty fun movie that tried to be like the MCU a little too hard. I still have fun with the movie and the Cameo at the end boosted the score up. I have noticed that some reviewers went into the movie already bashing it before it even came out and some blatantly lied that Black Adam wasn't in the third act when, in fact, he was. This is a movie I would be more than happy to watch again due to its visual effects, action, and the characters introduced. I do think there could have been more vibrant set pieces, but this is an origin story after all and you have to get his home established first before he moves on to other places. This movie makes me want to go out and FINALLY buy all of the Black Adam books/graphic novels there are. IF YOU CAN'T SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING IN THIS MOVIE, you might need to go get your little sniffer checked. But seriously, I am glad that he finally got this movie afloat after 15 long years of being heavily attached to this project and I look forward to seeing what Black Adam has in store for us in the future. The man in Black can't be stopped, not even by the boy in blue.

Can't wait to see what the hierarchy of power will look like in the DC universe now. I just hope they don't continue trying to be like the MCU and find their own distinctive style.

Freddie Gibbs as himself basically
27 September 2022
Great movie because of his charm and wit. He just has a way about him that makes me laugh and that draws me in. The man can't miss in anything he does. This movie was well shot and very chill. He plays the disillusioned and tired/fed up rapper role quite well. I feel exactly where he was coming from with rap being a violent and undesirable genre to ply your trade in. Pretty good movie with lots of moments that made me laugh, smile, and a few tense moments. This is the intention of a film and all involved did a great job! I hope to see Gangsta Gibbs in more stuff and I hope the soundtrack to this is released soon. The songs Gibbs did in this are so hard! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Part western, part Lovecraftian horror...I guess?
29 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And part UFO/Alien horror. I was rather confused throughout the whole first half of the movie and then, the action sort of picked up but never really interested me as a whole because I wasn't sure what was real and what I was supposed to take seriously. This is the weakest Jordan Peele movie so far besides Candyman. I hope he gets back to form soon. I did think the design of the alien threat was pretty cool; half manta ray and half jellyfish or something.

If this movie was done better, the imminent threat that this alien posed hidden in the clouds would have been more alarming and I could see it being a terrifying movie to watch. The concept is quite mortifying and makes me feel small and helpless if such an alien threat ever came to be, but the movie could have done a lot better. The chimpanzee mauling scene was the only gripping part of the movie because it could happen in real life.

At over 2 hours long is somehow felt rushed and was lacking in character development Everyone seemed emotionless and like they were phoning it in throughout, especially Daniel Kaluuya's character. He didn't want show any real emotion and seemed rather robotic and ice cold. So stoic and seemingly uncaring in this crazy situation. Keke Palmer was as energetic as ever but even with her character I just couldn't tell what was supposed to be going on. I don't know, I'm just overall lost about how I feel with this movie. Watch at your own discretion and hope that it isn't a waste of your time.

Seeking Vengeance is No Way to Live and Only Brings Death
27 July 2022
This was a superb movie that I did not want to end, even at over 2 hours long! The cinematography, action, locations, acting, and dialogue were all stunning. This movie had a lot of love put into it clearly, although the protagonist lives a life full of hate. Seeking vengeance doesn't make his life better in the end, and it ruins many other lives as well. The family tree scenes were beautiful! The final fight scene is not too drawn out and is a great show closer. The Northman is a tour de force! Watch a true modern day cinematic masterpiece and be carried away to a time long ago!

Adam Sandler mixes his comedy and drama chops in another show stealer. Huancho is good as Bo Cruz and so many NBA legends (Dr. J, Allen Iverson, etc.) and current players show up. Never thought I would see Queen Latifah and Mr. Sandler in a film together! Adam Sandler really shows his love for the sport with this one. I was left wondering if he really hates soccer though. 😆 Very enthralling film about a rags to riches story driven by hard work, perseverance and dedication. The camera work is quite captivating and drew me in. One scene was so anxiety inducing, and it was the perfect mix of intense camera work, angles, sporadic transitions, and the music that did it. I was rooting for the protagonists throughout. An ode to 2k22.

Duality Divide: Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares
27 May 2022
This was a well put together documentary about the troubled artist XXXTENTACION. It covers his ups and downs and will give a lot of people much needed closure. I was a huge X fan who would defend him for a while and I know there are still those who do. This documentary will provide a level of understanding so as not to make judgement calls, but to just know that he was a human being with a multitude of issues and problems. We all need help, and thus made me wish he had lived to get that much needed help and be there for his son. He was still a kid and taken way too soon. He should have been able to grow and atone for his mistakes like everybody (to a certain degree). I appreciate the fact that this doc doesn't attempt to sugar coat and lays out all of the cold hard facts. I also appreciate the emphasis on mental health. We all need it, and it is especially neglected in the Black community. I will try my best to help people in need for the rest of my life if I can because I know there have been times where I have needed it and haven't received it. Such is the case with Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy. He was a troubled youth with the weight of the world on his frail shoulders and nowhere to turn. Let's make sure nobody has to go through that of at all possible!

Can't run, can't hide: Can't escape myself.
18 May 2022
None of us can. Daniels and the Russo Brothers collaborate in a mind-bending film bringing together the legends Michelle Yeoh and that one kid from The Goonies and Indiana Jones all grown up. Polarizing forces in the life of their daughter. Movie is really existentialist and nihilistic at times, and I love it! Does any of this life actually matter or is it just what you choose to do with your time? Is there any innate reason for us being here or do we just make it up as we go along? I understand exactly how the daughter was feeling as if she was just so tired of going on and on in a box, all for it to end with so little having been accomplished. The visuals in this movie are eye-popping, and this was a fun adventure with parallels to The Matrix, but way cooler! Made me wish I could escape from my life and hop into another me in another universe. I guess we just need to understand and love the people in our lives for who they are. Take it or leave it, all or nothing. Use what little time you have together and make the best of it while you can. What else is life besides what we make it? Put everything on your bagel, or eat a plain one if you wish, nobody can tell you how to eat it. Superb acting and an overall beautiful movie that is a definite rewatch for me.

Why Spider-Man is the Greatest Superhero! Fan Service at it's best!
17 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
**MAJOR SPOILERS** The movie was phenomenal with so many call backs to past films and it was the perfect fan service film! I truly wish it was longer because it is sheer gold. I hope we get to see Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man again somewhere down the line. For all those people complaining about Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man, this movie quells all those complaints. This is a high stakes high octane adrenaline rush of a roller coaster with so many ups and downs! Spidey goes through the absolute most in this! We get shades of the Sinister Six in this film without the film feeling bogged down by the sheer number of characters. I wish that Mysterio had shown up again as a villain to take his rightful place in the six, but hey, maybe in the future!. I love how each character got to say lines from the past and the movie was over all very funny and entertaining. Some of my favorite quips were Doctor Octopus saying "the power of the Sun in the palm of my hands", the Green Goblin saying "I'm something of a scientist myself", and Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker complaining about his back problems. I also love how Andrew Garfield Spider-Man got a second chance to save a Spider-Man love interest from falling to her death. This was such a beautiful movie and I can't believe they actually showed the spider sense like how it is depicted in the comics in a live-action film. I marked out so many times and I was paying attention to everything. I even noticed that on that van they had a tribute to Steve Ditko as they graffiti his name on the side of it. The fact that they had Aunt May say the "with great power, there also must come great responsibility" line straight out of the comics gave me chills! And the fact that they had the Classic Spiderman costume color scheme at the end! This movie was totally awesome and I can't wait to watch it 100 more times! When the three Spider-Men share the screen, it is every bit as iconic as we all imagined it would be! Such chemistry, and such an amazing, spectacular and ultimate superhero movie! Only Spider-Man 2 can boast about being so good of a Spider-Man movie. This movie, in my opinion, is right next to Infinity War and Endgame in scale and execution. Don't miss out on the event of a lifetime!

POWERFUL! NEVER CLAPPED LOUDER!
13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have not seen a movie in recent memory that evokes such a strong emotional reaction! All actors in this movie play their part superbly. Shouts out to the whole cast, crew, director and producers! This is an amazing piece of historical Cinema that does not pull any punches! It is not for the faint of heart and will definitely evoke strong emotions and anybody who is a human being so I would go into this with caution! **spoiler** it is quite sad that it took a 21 year old young man named Fred Hampton sacrificed his life in the quest for unity and equality, and we are nowhere closer to that dream. All of our leaders, we the people, are either dead and gone or weak, cowardly and afraid to make a move. The FBI and all of these government and federal/private organizations that do dirt are the problem. What they did to that young man and the whole Black Panther Party organization that was trying to better communities is absolutely horrible and they should not still be around! William O'Neal died knowing that he made the biggest mistake one could ever make and that is betraying not only his people but a great young leader who could have potentially United the world, all for a piece of change and to save his own ass from 5 years behind a prison cell. Was it worth it!? WHERE OH WHERE ARE OUR LEADERS! WHERE IS THE UNITY NOW!? WATCH THIS FILM! I'M FEELING LIKE A REVOLUTIONARY! THIS FILM WILL KEEP THE SPARK LIT! 11/10 stars! Best film of 2021 thus far and one of the best of the early 21st century! PEACE! ☮

Black People(and mostpeople in general) don't read reviews.
13 February 2021
I know I did not when me and my girlfriend sat down and watch this movie one night and we were rather engulfed. So I don't know why Malcolm was so worried about what critics and reviewers thought about his film when literally people like myself do not even sit down and read reviews on movies most of the time. We just, you know, go watch them. But it did provide ample entertainment watching him go on and on in his maniacal tirade. It also share some insight into the workings of certain relationships and how to approach certain situations within such relationships. All in all, good piece of cinema! Denzel Washington's son and Zendaya have great chemistry and people may be shipping them right now.

Half Brothers movie review

A film with so much heart and great humor! A fun time and it's been such a long time since I've seen a movie both this fun, heart-warming, and funny! Yes it has the common movie tropes but it is done in such a fun way, and the movie keeps things simple. Two half brothers getting to know each other, bonding, and fulfilling their late father's final wishes. It's a very good time and anybody can find something to take away from it! The story is surprisingly deep at times but don't go in expecting too much like it's Shakespeare or something! Just sit back and enjoy the ride! I really didn't want it to end and I will be watching this again someday! 9/10 stars!

The lead actor should be the New Black Panther
30 November 2020
And it had such an intriguing plot that I have never seen before in a horror film. It has elements of monster horror and psychological horror, I have also never seen African culture incorporated into the horror genre like it is here. It would be awesome if they put the lead actor in the role as the New Black Panther if they don't go with Michael B Jordan's Killmonger taking up the mantle. Sope Dirisu has the voice and billed for it as well as the acting chops! I hope he goes big places after this as well as the leading female actress, Wunmi Mosaku. I believe she was in a Black Mirror episode and is also a phenomenal actor. The movie had good all-around acting and a great fear element that catch me at the edge of my seat, or floor or wherever the hell I was sitting while watching it...!

19 September 2020
The title gives you a hint of what the theme of the movie is. This movie was so good and so clever! I haven't seen an action thriller this good in so long! Christopher Nolan makes the best action thrillers hands down! The special effects are mind boggling per usual in a Christopher Nolan movie. He never misses and takes his time when making these classic movies. I am still wondering how they did the things they did in this movie! It is a mind boggling thriller with a story and fleshed out characters. Check it out! You are in for a treat.

A Faithful X-Men Comic Adaptation
9 June 2019
Everything is different. This movie made me realize that these first class movies take place in a different time line ever since the ending of Days of Future Past. Some of the most unexpected things happen. This movie is the darkest X-Men film yet, as the title implies. The action is heavier and more violent, the stakes are higher, and yet, I feel like the movie was a little rushed. I love the fact that every mutant gets their turn to shine, and the scenes with Nightcrawler, Storm, and Magneto are my favorites. Quicksilver only gets the usual 1 scene where he stands out, but this time isn't as breathtaking as the first two. I like the fact that this movie actually took inspiration from the actual Dark Phoenix comic arcs this time around, and it actually felt right unlike X-Men the Last Stand, which is probably why they seemingly retconned that one. I didn't really feel any emotional depth in this movie and that may be a part of the Infinity War and End Game withdrawal. Those two films are some greatest movies of all time so don't go into this one expecting that amount of awesome. I have and always will love the X-Men and this movie actually gave me an X-Men story that felt like it was straight out of the comics, and I appreciate that. If you are an X-Men fan you will enjoy the movie.

John Wick: Prepare for War with the Modern Day Horseman of Death.
7 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
John Wick: Prepare for War (Parabellum)

Now all of the John Wick movies released thus far have been adrenaline filled and action packed. This one seemed slower at times but the action scenes get better with every movie and this one does not disappoint. You see John Wick fight on horseback like a modern day horseman of death, on a motorcycle zoomin' and shootin' fools, and underwater where the bullets are drastically slowed. There is even a badass knife throwing fight and also an epic sword duel. The senseless violence is brutal and just so freakin awesome and realistic! Also, there are some Matrix references in this movie besides Lawrence Fishburne teaming up again, we get the old "how about I give you the finger line", and the"I need guns, lots of guns" line! Keanu Reeves is a true badass because he still does his own stunts and knows actual fighting and gun techniques. Halle Berry appears in this film as well, and she actually comes across as an absolute badass as well! **Spoiler** She has these two attack dogs that are vicious and follow her every command! Great action film per usual, and one hell of a ride. John Wick will return more pissed off than ever!

P.S. **Spoiler** All I could think of when the Sushi Samurai guy was chasing John Wick was them playing a game of tag, especially when John Wick put his hand on the Continental stairs and the guy couldn't touch him because he was safe so to speak.

Artsy and entertaining!
29 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I truly believe that most of the reviewers leaving negative reviews are missing the beauty of the show. This is a show that encompasses so much black history, music, and art that is sometimes overwhelming but always impactful at least for me. The main actress carries the show really well and is believable as a free-thinking independent black woman, and the rest of the cast is cool. Nola darling has three boyfriends in a rotation and each has their own distinctive personality that meshes well together when they finally meet. **Spoiler** I love the scene in the 10th episode of season 1 where all of her male friends meet and actually get to know each other and have fun together. All three of them with Nola dance to a Prince song and the whole scene is quite enjoyable.

This show has beautiful cinematography and great transitions that impact the overall feeling of the show. There are hidden meanings and interpretations to every shot in the show, and the use of colors is also great. You get a feel of the New York and Brooklyn lifestyle and also a bit of the Black Culture. There are many classic book references, musical referencesb poetry references, and many homages to famous people and innovators throughout history. I don't know why the show got so many bad reviews but I for one enjoy it. If you go into it with no expectations and just watch it for what it is you will enjoy it.

P.S. This is definitely for mature audiences because there are many explicit sex scenes and language.

A Stunning Love Letter to MCU Fans
7 May 2019
This is perhaps one of the biggest movies of all time if not THE biggest film of all time! Avengers endgame is a stunning love letter to fans of the MCU, and will truly leave an impact on the whole movie industry. The movie is just so spectacular that I can't even cover everything with mere words in this review. Infinity War was spectacular but this movie is the one that for the last 12 years has been built up to. There are plenty of Easter eggs and references to the past movies that true fans will understand. The acting is great from all involved and the visuals are incredible. This movie is quite an emotional ride, and it will have you going through a whole range of different emotions and it's 3 hour run time. I can't say enough for this movie, just be prepared for your heart to be racing Non-Stop! I don't want to spoil anything because there is just so much to spoil for those who have not seen it yet. This movie will be talked about for many many years, and there will never be another quite like it.

One of the Baddest!
28 April 2019
Shadow is a certified badass! The acting and the stories in the show are really well done and I enjoyed watching. The show is very action-packed and has a bunch of comedic moments as well. This is the type of genuine TV show that I like to see where you can tell that everybody is having fun and they have good chemistry together. I actually cared about most of the characters in the show because they take time to develop characters in the show. The special effects are pretty good as well. Pallance Dladla is a good lead actor and very charismatic as Shadow. I await season 2!

The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Robert Johnson
28 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very well-made documentary that is simple to understand and get straight to the point. I enjoyed learning more about the legend that is Robert Johnson. You learn about how he influenced music as a whole and about his short life. He lived and died in obscurity and yet most musicians that we know were somehow influenced by him. Blues, rock and roll, Pop and many other musical genres are somehow inspired by this man Robert Johnson. I really find the cultural and historical side of this documentary to be interesting as well because you learn about the mindset of people back in those times (early 1900s). The myths about Robert Johnson meeting the devil at the crossroads is something that captivates people and adds a layer of mystique to the man. I also found the part that goes over the 27 Club ( talented musicians who died at the age of 27 just like Robert Johnson: Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse to name a few) interesting as well. The documentary is very informal and entertaining to watch, and the use of animations adds to the story. Very well made.

Absurdity, Hilarity, and Controversy!!!
6 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show is amazing simply because it is educational and funny! It has some highly absurd and controversial moments and opinions and that is what makes it awesome! The interactions between people is where this show shines, and it really shows how absurd this country can be. Killer Mike actually manages to be a great narrator, teacher, rapper, comedian, and businessman throughout the series. You could learn a lot from watching the series, and even if you don't agree with a lot of what is expressed you will still enjoy and be entertained by most of it. **Spoilers: One of my favorite aspects of the show is how Killer Mike put together a supergroup of completely different people from completely different backgrounds to do a song together! There was a Black Cowboy, a Black Native American Moorish dude, an Albino Black Activist, a Jewish opera looking harp playing Lady, an oversensitive homosexual dude, a quiet satanist punk rock looking dude, a Black feminist lady, and an apparently racist white nationalist dude! It was insanely hilarious! I also loved the Crip-a-Cola and Blood Pop business ventures that were a collaboration between the Crips and Bloods. The Church of Sleep is also something I'd back in real life!

3 April 2019
This is such a funny feel good movie! I have not laughed this hard while watching a movie in years! I believe that everybody in the family can enjoy this one. The acting is great and the romance and comedy is pretty well-adjusted as well. I especially love the scenes that deal with the acting on set! The story is one that is well written, and there are a few twists. It deals with two people who switch life roles and get adjusted to each other's lifestyle in hilarious ways. This movie delivers in a big way! Highly recommend!

A Cinematic Spectacle: I put 10 on it!
24 March 2019
The movie titled 'Us' is best described as a psychological Thriller / social-conscious commentary horror (I kinda made this one up, but more on that later) film. This film is so beautiful due to its use of color, music and camera angles that hold symbolism. The cinematography is brilliant! Themes in the film are actually quite revelatory and cause one to think about (U.S) society as a whole. There were symbolic moments in the film that made me want to scream out "I get that reference!". All actors do such a fantastic job and they each are believable on screen. Lupita Nyong'o is as stunning as ever, and Winston Duke is also great. They have such good on-screen chemistry (probably from the time they spent together on the set of 'Black Panther') and make for great leads. The child actors Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex are two examples of excellent child actors. They have some key moments in the plot where they truly shine, and they actually are smart horror movie characters. In fact, this is one of the smartest horror flicks ever made. The main characters/protagonists use their common sense for the most part and they react to the situation like an everday person would, and I found myself rooting for them, heart racing all the while. Jordan Peele has done it yet again! First there was 'Get Out', and now 'Us'. I smell a few Oscars and Golden Globes in this movie's future. I always knew Jordan Peele was brilliant ever since his time on Key & Peele. He knows how to weave plot lines and connect them to real world issues. When you watch and figure out what the themes in the film are, it will scare you because it is a commentary on all of us (ha!) It tries to tell us to take a look in the mirror if you will. That is why I called this a social-conscious commentary horror. I don't want to spoil aby of the plot so that you fully enjoy the experience. Oh, and I forgot to mention the music! The music in this movie actually matches what is happening on screen at times. The I got 5 on it remix in this movie is awesome, and so is the opening theme. The soundtrack is so chilling and awesome. I highly recommend watching this movie! It is a labor of love, and I enjoyed the ride.

P.S. I totally want to wife Ms. Lupita Nyong'o! She is truly beautiful, and also a tremendous actor and talent!

A really well done anime with great animation and lots of action. The animation style is awesome because you can differentiate between all of the faces and they look realistic. A lot of muscular body as well. The action animations are very well done and it is an all-around good anime to watch. Eat the cake Anna Mae!
