Great series, but skip season 4.
6 August 2022
It was intriguing & binge worthy until season 4. It felt like the writers ran out of juice by then, with the whole season void of any good ideas. Pity, as the cast deserved better.

Queen: Days of Our Lives (2011 TV Movie)

From a die-hard Queen fan.
13 February 2022
I've been a die-hard fan of Queen since the Sheer Heart Attack album. Before I continue, let me state that I know the difference between a bio pic & a documentary.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY was a stellar production, & if it brings more people to the music of Queen, then God bless it. But again, as a die-hard fan, I can't get past the historical inaccuracies. If you want the real story, DAYS OF OUR LIVES is the one to see. It's much more fascinating & entertaining.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is a stellar production, & if it brings more people to the music of Queen, then God bless it. However, as a die-hard fan again, I'm put off by the historical inaccuracies of the movie. Apologies to the millions who love this film, but I can't get past them. I'm better served by the DAYS OF OUR LIVES documentary. The real story is much more fascinating & entertaining.

The Best Of The Original Series
28 December 2021
This is perhaps the finest of the original Apes series surpassing even the first film IMO. Gone are the novelties & humor surrounding the make up & the premise. Conquest has the privilege of devoting it's efforts to story & character development. It gives us a serious science fiction entry with it's moral argument for the minority, coupled with plenty of action.

Dry & Wooden
24 December 2021
A Christmas Carol is my favorite story, & needless to say, I've viewed close to all filmed versions of the story. This is in no way the worst telling of the tale, but I do not understand it's enduring popularity. After three viewings, I still find it dryer than burnt toast.

Better Than It Needs To Be!
18 November 2021
This movie is so much better than it needs to be. What we have is a 90 minute episode of Scooby-Doo. Unlike it's dismal predecessor, this movie does a great job of capturing the look and feel of the original cartoon, while simultaneously bringing it into the real world. Be a kid at heart, relax & enjoy some zonked-out monster madness!

Excessively Dark & Grim
14 November 2021
Re-imaginings & remakes can be clever & entertaining, but in this case the viewer would be better served watching almost any other cinematic version of this timeless story. I can give it some kudos for it's intent, for exploring a different approach to the story, but the results are depressing.

I Wish I Liked It More Than I Do
25 October 2021
I'm a huge Dark Shadows fan from the very beginning, & I really want to like this film more than I do. I hesitate to say it's a bad movie, but overall, Night Of Dark Shadows is a listless viewing experience.

I've read the script with the edited scenes, & I'm not sure this would've improved the film much. It would've just made it longer. That being said, the best thing about this movie is seeing Lara Parker getting her turn on the big screen.

The Best Of Dan Curtis!
2 May 2021
House of Dark Shadows is producer/director Dan Curtis' tour de force. This is the best TV to motion picture adaptation I've ever seen, & it's also one of the best horror movies ever made. Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins is most convincing as a gentleman "to the manor born", & in the next moment, a terrifying vampire. The rest of the cast is equally stellar, & the New York locations of Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow add a spooky authenticity. "Come see how the vampires do it!"

The Real Batman!!
2 May 2021
Ignore the naysayers, this is the greatest Batman adventure, ever! People, not everything has to be dark & intense! Sometimes a movie just needs to be fun & entertaining. It's cool, colorful, exciting & a great slice of nostalgia that could've only been made in the 1960's!

Better Than The First!
2 May 2021
Relax folks. It's not Miracle On 34th Street, but it's a decent, solid movie! There's lots of Santa filled Christmas fantasy fun, making this a treat for the Holidays. I found it better & more original than the first one. And to paraphrase another review, it also has the charm & spirit of many live action Disney movies that I grew up with.

This Movie Has It All!!
20 April 2021
Classic monsters & classic comedy, in one movie? Yes!! And don't listen to any rubbish reviews that tell you the monsters have been reduced to buffoonery. Abbott & Costello are at their best, & so are the monsters! This is the best horror comedy ever made!

The Best Of Toho!
20 April 2021
This is one of the best monster rallies ever made, a stellar showcase of Toho's stable of monsters. It has everything going for it if you enjoy these movies. The special effects are great for it's time, the human element doesn't slow the film down, & the monster action is superb!

See It For The Monsters!
20 April 2021
I so want to like this movie more than I do. Perhaps editing 3/4 of the martial arts sequences would help. This movie suffers IMO because it can't make up it's mind what it wants to be. Fortunately, Toho redeemed itself (& how!) with SHIN GODZILLA. The monsters are great though, so give this one a look anyway.

Who Turned Out The Light??
16 March 2021
In Shine A Light, the Stones are reduced to a nostalgia act, playing for an old, rich crowd, with an entourage of backup singers & musicians. Keith Richards does more posing than playing. With apologies to Buddy Guy, who is outstanding, the set list is predictable, no surprises. Every prior Rolling Stones concert film shows them at the top of their game. Shine A Light is sadly overrated & disappointing.

Classic Rolling Stones!
16 March 2021
I'm confounded that Roger Ebert gave Shine A Light 4 stars, while rating this film so dismally. In SAL the Stones are reduced to a nostalgia act, playing for an old, rich crowd, with an entourage of backup singers & musicians. Let's Spend The Night Together is the last concert film to highlight the Rolling Stones at the top of their game. Classic Rolling Stones, & a great concert.

Authentic
12 March 2021
I love this production. It boasts more heart & authenticity than Peter Jackson's bloated, padded movies. Being made for TV, a few liberties are taken with the story due to time constraints, but they're not a hindrance. The spirit & essence of the book is reverently kept intact.

Forgettable
27 November 2020
As a die-hard fan of the original show, it wasn't the atrocity I was told to expect. However, I wouldn't rate it any higher than 3 stars, & I'm being generous.

I'm literally hot & cold with Burton films. With the exception of his first Batman outing, his remakes/re-imaginings fall very short with me. To state the obvious, they're style over substance, forgettable budget bin titles 3 months after they hit the stores. His originals, like Big Fish & Edward Scissorhands however, are outstanding & not to be missed.

Give Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes, Willie Wonka, Alice In Wonderland & Dark Shadows a hard pass, & watch Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, & Big Fish instead.

I Love This Movie!
4 July 2020
King Kong Escapes is a joint effort from Japan's Toho studios (creators of Godzilla) and Rankin-Bass (of Rudolph The Red-Noses Reindeer and Frosty The Snowman fame). In fact, the movie is based on the Rankin-Bass King Kong cartoon series from 1966.

The movie is total eye candy that could have only come out of the colorful 1960's. King Kong fits nicely into the Toho universe, and it also features Robot Kong, one of the most clever giant monster creations to emerge from the Toho stables at the time. Not to be missed!

The Concert I've Been Waiting For
4 July 2020
I enjoy all of Queen's output, but it's the music from their first three albums (Queen, Queen II & Sheer Heart Attack) featured here in concert that made me a die-hard fan. This is Queen before they became a hit machine. Some of their most creative, complex & heaviest work are featured on these albums. I've waited years to hear live renditions of these songs & believe me, it was worth the wait.

Damn the critics, I liked it!
4 January 2020
CATS may not be a great film, but I found it to be as good or better than any movie musical I've seen in the last 5 years. I don't understand what the naysayers were expecting this to be. In this case, one appears to be sticking their neck out if they have the nerve to say something positive. I guess it's trendier to go with the crowd and bash it.

Bloated & Pretentious
7 April 2019
I love horror, fantasy & sci-fi including many cheesy B-pics, but Jackson's Kong came off as bloated and pretentious to me. It tries too hard to be epic, plus it doesn't take 3 hours to tell a story about a giant gorilla.

Inspiring, delightful!
13 December 2018
This is my favorite film adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. It takes a few inexplicable liberties with the book, but it doesn't hinder the film. The music is inspiring, both as Holiday music and as a musical. The special effects are also magnificent, making this one of the best ghost stories ever filmed. It succeeds the best though as Albert Finney (in his finest role) and company convey the true meaning of the Dickens' story and the Holiday season.

What was Disney thinking?
13 December 2018
They took one of the most endearing stories ever conceived and turned it into a shallow, soulless and uninspired waste of time. I can't believe Roger Ebert gave this mess 4 stars.

Simply Awful
10 August 2017
Re-imaginings can be clever & entertaining, but in this case the viewer would be better served watching literally any other cinematic version of this timeless legend. This is a ridiculous interpretation. Arthur the man, the myth and the magic is nowhere to be had in any shape or form. Guy Ritchie has turned him into a 21st century low life thug.
