Sausage Party (2016)
A Funny Wonderful Journey To Seek Out The Truth
I recently seen this hilarious comedy piece at my local theater and i would say that i didn't regret it. Seth Rogen( as well as most of the cast list) is already well known comedians. The movie was never a bore to me (there were some slow parts, but there was always surprises) and it's a great movie if you've ever watched The Night Before, 50/50, or Super Bad. What i found interesting was that Greg Tiernan (Directed Thomas & Friends) and Conrad Vernon (directed Shrek) made this film look so kid friendly and delighting to watch at the start, and then just really made it raunchy, disturbingly obscene, and utterly hilarious that it was without the doubt the best change-up for a beginning of a rated R animated film. It really does deserve a rating of 7, without a doubt it's as funny as it looks on TV previews, but it's even more shocking once you watch it. Now, there is many parts where it did get a little slow and not all of the jokes were funny, nor did everything run its course like other "kid-friendly" animated films, but it did do a good job at explaining the question, "What would it look like if food had human personalities and were conscious of their surroundings?" So in the end would i recommend this film to watch at home with your eight year old child? Hell no i wouldn't, but when you're at home or want to watch something funny and new then this is the movie.
The Elephant Man (1980)
Under The Ugly Within The Beautiful
To start off with the movie the elephant trampling on the mother was a bit confusing to say the least, but later on in the film Bytes (the owner and freak show host), tells Dr. Frederick Treves about how this disfigured man came to be. Dr. Frederick Treves in the first part of the film (based in England), was visiting a circus when he fell upon a freak show . Feeling a bit curious to what was in this entrance (especially when it was certainly a private entrance). The English police shut down the Byte's Elephant Man sideshow presentation because, quote the chief of police, " It degrades anybody who sees it, even the poor creature himself". This action could of had something to do from the startled, crying, and frightened lady walking away from the side show.
Dr. Frederick Treves,(in the next scenes), is working on a man that got into a machine accident, mentioning to Mr. Hodger how their had been quite a number of machine accidents lately. A boy enters with a message, Dr, Frederick wants to see Elephant man for himself. This part of the film made me deeply sorrowful for the poor man; when Dr. Frederick Treves blankly starred at the disfigured human with tears creeping down his face. I myself felt that Bytes was an abusive animal in the beginning of the film when he pushed, yelled and mistreated Elephant Man like he wasn't human.
This was the brief glimpse of how this relationship with Elephant Man(John Curt), and Dr. Frederick Treves( Anthony Hopkins) came to be to blossom this magnificent movie. I loved the Rome and Juliet scene, it was inspirational, and Mrs.Kendall(Anne Bancroft) played a giant role in bringing the Elephant Man's hopes high to becoming a regular human being. When Mrs.Kendall played that poem skit out of the book changed my perspective on life, and showed me a great life lesson, even know you might not be perfect there is someone that loves you. The night porter ( Micheal Elphick), along with Bytes, tried destroying the Elephant Man's dreams of becoming normal, in which very menacingly, decry him to the public. Both Bytes and The Night Porter were the perfect resemblance of bullies and stereotyped society today.
Uses of dramatic experiences in this film are well written and love, despair, frightful occurrences, yet a hint of humor, and overall inspirational was displayed in perfect fashion in this film. To think even today some people look down and mistreat others, this film resembles todays society and the corrupt cruel world we live in. A surrealistic film indeed. I can watch this film again and every time I can place myself in the Elephant Man's place.
The Amputee (1974)
Humorously Oozy
I for one thought both the first version and second version to be hysterically funny! David Lynch changed a small bit of this short film to test two different types of film, but in the end the second film looked like it had a better touch up quality. David's cameo fit the perfect role as the nurse and in the second film ended up to be a laugh when he ran out of the room because of her oozing bloody foot wound. The story didn't make much sense to me, only that i knew she had some disputes with some initial friends or acquaintances, but i for sure thought it was a dark comedy in a way.
David Lynch is, by far, an amazing writer towards shorts;Even know he uses the most complex and confusing ways to make his shorts and films so original that it almost can't be interpreted. Without one doubt i'm a firm believer that this short was better then both "The Alphabet" and " Absurd Encounter with Fear", combined. The question is what was the girl talking about? and how did she get like this? There will be no prequel, but it is a question that only your mind could answer, once again the imagination of David Lynch.
The Grandmother (1970)
Dark,Mysterious, Confusing, but Original
The Grandmother in my opinion was a surrealistic look on some childhood experiences. The caring grandmother, the abusive parents, and the realistic look on life. The film in imagery has no real sense in direction, but what is known is that in todays society this movie could relate to some kids living with there grandparents or liking their grandparents better then there abusive parents. Contrast B W, and the overall small shades of red are by far a great start off to this film, and i thought that the eerie, yet happy music " with the grandmother further down into the short" , was a perfect placement and added great emotion to the film. I loved this short even with some mess ups and overall confusion.
David Lynch never gets old and his original imaginations overthrow many horror and artistic surrealism films today. From what i could tell you is that this film overall had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next scene, or some confusing event to just throw itself right in front of me. The actors were plain out abusive, and the short yet sweet scriptwriting was written exactly how i thought it would be. Without doubt David Lynch has brightened my day
Well or brightened it in a horrifying, disruptive kind of way.
The Alphabet (1969)
Alphabet Horror
Where can i start? I believe with the corrupt mind of this sleeping girl portioned out into a chaotic death at the end of the film. Wither the girl's nightmare came true or an utter deep symbolic meaning to this film really existed, i think that this short was overall a perfect solid eight. I can't put out a explanation to what this film really meant, but between the creepy child voices, the nightmarish voice- wind sounds, and the mumbling of the creepy girl is nothing more close to a nightmare. To put into words it made feel uncomfortable, in made me feel scared, and it made me feel completely blindsided, but hey it's just like David Lynch's " Absurd Encounter With Fear" from 1967. Both shorts are to the point, horrifying and utterly confusing.
Absurd Encounter with Fear (1967)
Absurd Indeed
Very unsure what is going on in David Lynch's mind during this short film, but i can say that their is a degree of symbolism and humor in it. During the first part of the short the guy/ghost/zombie/soulless character is walking through a field going past the camera. Next shot is composed of the guy slowly approaching a girl that is, what looks to be sitting in the fetal position. The girl could resemble innocence, but through the short it is hard to tell what David Lynch's motive was for these characters. The girl looks ahead the whole time in the short almost like the guy was unexpected or unnoticed.
In he next scene the guy figure is proceeding to pull out some kind of flowers out of his pants. the flowers could be dandelions, or from a previous post Yellow Hawkweed, but the motive in my opinion is this figure could be trying to take the girl figures innocence away from her. The cameraman switches to a sharp zoom out shots before the next scene, then with the man still taking the flowers out of his zipper, the cameraman makes a second sharp zoom out shot with the man staring blankly into the camera. Very dark at this pointing and the top portion of his face is dark and mysterious. He then falls to the ground in the next scene and lays there motionlessly. The camera rolls for approx twenty nine seconds and i noticed the girl figures head slowly slouched down looking hopeless.
I myself, don't know if the girls head slouching was intentional or preferably just something that happened, but the end of the short film and the music selection left me confused, uncomfortable, scared, and a little bit humorous. Overall for cheap shots and a fast scripting, i believe that this short is worth watching just for a small scare and giggles.
Eraserhead (1977)
"Erased" my reality of life
I can say that this movie is by far a cult classic in my opinion, and a vast artistic expression placed in the minds of the viewers. When i recently watched this film how could you not squirm in your seat from the utter eerie machine metal, crying babe, and destructive chaotic mind of Henry Spencer. To really sink into the movie, the nightmarish psycho mind of henry's thoughts elude him to end up killing his mutant babe, which in the end, brings him to peace.
Artistic value is brought up in ever aspect of David Lynch's "Eraserhead". Believing that there is one true way of looking at the film is by far a lie, making the film imaginative. What does everything really mean? This sum up of the movie is for you to decide.
