Logan (2017)
The breaking bad of all superhero movies
Notice how i didn't say "The Dark knight" of x-men or marvel. I personally believe that Logan was its own movie that had a unique way of blowing audiences out of their seats and can highly agree that with out a doubt it is up there with some of greatest superhero movies of all time like the dark knight, the dark knight rises, spider man 2, and deadpool. This review WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR LOGAN AND SURPRISINGLY THE BREAKING BAD (ALITTLE). So if you haven't seen Logan or breaking bad, read this later.
Now I know for a fact you may be thinking what does breaking bad have anything to do with Logan? Well the most simple way of saying it is breaking bad is known to be one of the greatest shows of all time and Logan im sure is now considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time , but one thing Logan kind of had in common with breaking bad was knot the plot but the outcome of the main character development. If i had to describe season 5 of breaking bad in one word rock bottom not just for Walter white but for all the characters surrounded by him, and watching the movie Logan i saw the same thing. In this Movie we see what we normally saw in all the X-men films. We see a depressed alcoholic Logan who has changed his identity, works a crappy limo driver job, and is hiding a old and sick professor Xavier in the Mexican border. The first 30 min of this movie had me interested because we learn very little of why professor x and Logan are in the state they are in, why both of them are depressed and hurt, and why all the mutant race is dead. This movie does a fantastic job of of living up to its title and that is really showing the true inside of Logan. In the movie Logan is actually suicidal and and multiple times refers to it because he believes that the " accident " was his fault and the same applies with professor x,but and the end of the day their relationship is what keeps both of them alive and MAN the does a great job showing their friendship build each other up. Next my favorite prat of this movie is X 23 Dafne Keene, god she was a bad ass in this movie her acting is just so perfect and im praying we see her again in a spin off. Logan's death in this movie is what i feel like really made the movie more heartfelt and how i can compare it to the breaking bad like Walter white dying we see that with his death we saw who he truly was, well the same thing goes with Logan at the end we X 23 flipping his cross into an X showed he was more than a human being he was an X men. Honestly this was a great film i have already seen it twice and am tempted to see it again so i 100 % recommend.
Rogue One (2016)
Disney does it again
After seeing two straight star wars films that Disney made happen this and the force awakens, it brought me to the conclusion that George Lucas the man who made all of this possible just needs to keep his mouth shut and collect his paycheck. Rogue one is a prequel that covers the secret rebel army that is mentioned in a new hope. This army released out the plans of the death star and how to destroy it. Star wars has not had its luck in the box office with prequel movies, just ask George Lucas himself. So going into this film i was some what curious on how it was going to turn out. My overall review is this isn't a great movie but it is good. The first 20 to 25 minutes in this movie start off very slow but when the first action scene starts that is where it gradually starts to pick up. However in my opinion the one character who saved this movie when he makes his first appearance is the one and only (My favorite movie villain) DARTH VADER!!! When we first see Vader in the movie, Gareth Edwards does a fantastic job on making all of his screen time epic and giving us the Darth Vader that we as star wars fan love.Something that George Lucas failed at doing in the prequel trilogy. So I will say go see this movie even though it has a few minor flaws, it defiantly passes as a good star wars film.
Arrival (2016)
Denis's worst film
I have watched plenty of Denis Villeneuve films and can honestly say that his films are really good. Sicario was one of my favorites, but when i went to go see this film I had high expectations. This film had me sitting in my seat board and confused. This movie is probably one of the most boring movies I have ever seen!!!! This movie goes absolutely no where, there are so many pointless twists that literally don't do anything to the plot. This movie tries to blow away your mind, but fails so epically at doing it. Amy Adams has disappointed me once again. I thought she would have redeemed herself since batman vs superman, but I guess not. Her character has no emotion in this movie and pretty much has the attitude of a sponge the whole entire film. So in my opinion i say save your money this is a super overrated film.
J'ai rencontré le Père Noël (1984)
A movie with Good potential but fails with lazy writing.
I recently just re-watched this movie after (believe it or not) 20 years of the VHS collecting dust in my garage. I grew up with this movie as a child and used to love watching it with my cousins every year at my grandparents house, but on the other hand there were a few scenes that used to confuse me as a kid and in very few scenes scare the living hell out of me. This movie now to me as an adult almost answers all the questions I used to have as a kid and the answers are simple, its just the writers, producers, and Director were just plain Lazy!!! Seriously this movie is a film that has a good plot that makes sense the first five minutes of the movie even with some of the corny dialogue within in that time, but after that the story goes completely flat and just leaves you staring at your TV bored and confused. So the movie starts off with a young boy who is considered an outcast at his school and get harassed by a creepy looking janitor who gives him murderous threats about eating him for dinner which is pretty stupid.
However in the movie we learn that the little boy Simon (fun fact: which is my name by the way)is orphaned and lives with his grandmother and learn that his parents are known to be prisoners in Africa. When he is asked what he wants for Christmas he makes it clear that he wants Santa to have his parents return home. See where I am going with this? This is a good introduction then as I said before the movie then starts adding multiple subplots that are never resolved or explained. Some good examples are (spoliers) the boy and his little girlfriend go on a school field trip to an airport and see a flight that leads to the north pole and decide to go to the plane to ask Santa for his parents. They somehow manage to get on the flight and leave to the north pole, but the stupid part is no one takes notice of their disappearance almost the whole entire movie not even there teacher. Next is the teacher and janitor play two different characters. The teacher plays a fairy an assistant for Santa and the janitor an evil ogre that kidnaps the children and the children never even once point out that there are the same people in the movie. There are also scenes in the movie that are just so pointless and come off as far fetched and just pointless to the plot that can be flat out stupid like the kids walking through the forest looking for Santa and somehow find him on his slay which is so far fetched cause come on anyone can get lost in those woods. The Africa scenes are completely pointless scenes where the dang fairy starts talking to a bunch of damn monkeys, where Santa does a stupid thing and gets into a river full of crocodiles because he said its too hot, the escape scene where Santa finds Simon's parents which don't explain how they even know its the parents, but yea and the African soldiers just let them escape with out notice. The final scene that used to freaking traumatize me as a kid and even to this day as an adult it the scene where the ogre grabs a puppy dog that the children have with them through out the movie and he puts it between the pieces of bread and is looks like he is about to eat it but children cry and beg him not to and he gives the puppy a sad look and slowly lays it down then the scene cuts out and when they return to the ogres house we don't see the puppy again so as a kid I used to always ask did he end up eating the poor innocent puppy didn't look like it in the last scene. The movie does have a good ending and a good musical score but the writing is just so poorly written I watch the movie and almost feel like I could have written the movie better hell the to me kid would of just had a dream and would have ripped off the wizard of oz waking up scene just to make the movie make sense. I mean come on you had two adorable children who are our main characters, a sexy teacher/fairy, a good plot, and a good score. This movie could have been an iconic Christmas movie like elf or its a wonderful life but just didn't live up to its potential and i don't want to hear well its a French film or a film made for children it doesn't matter it still applies to any other movie just look at Disney movies.
