Okay, most people seem to be pretty ignorant of Britain's firearms laws, so I have posted a summary below:
To own a firearm in Britain, you must have a current, valid firearms licence. For get this, you must be rigorously investigated by the police, and show that you can keep them securely locked up, in a separate safe to wherever ammunition is kept. A 'reference' is required from each of two people. Both must have known you for at least a year, and have 'an upstanding position in the community'. They cannot be closely related to you. One must know you within shooting, and the other must have no shooting connections with you whatsoever. For example, mine were my headmistress and the chairman of my local shooting club. You must be a member of a shooting club if you want to have guns for target shooting (I only know about target shooting, when it comes to getting a licence). A firearms licence must be renewed every 5 years, with the entire check repeated.
When you get your licence, you must apply for each type of firearm you want, for example: a 12 bore high-cap shotgun, two .303 rifles, two .22 rifles, and a 762/39 rifle (this is not what I have, this is just an example). You must have a legitimate reason for each gun, and you must have shot all of them at least once a year with the club for you to have a legitimate reason. If you wish to use them for target shooting, you must show that you would use them regularly. Different guns are used for different competitions, like a historic rifle shoot, where all the guns must be of a certain age, or a SMLE competition, where all the guns must be SMLEs (Short Magazine Lee Enfield).
This is known as a Section 1 licence. A Section 2 licence covers low-cap shotguns only, which needs only one recommendation.
These are both entirely handled by your county's police force. If you have been imprisoned for any crime for under 3 months, you must wait five years from the end of the term until you may be allowed a firearms licence. If you have been imprisoned for over 3 months, you will never be allowed to have a firearms licence.
Once you have your licence, you must sign in every gun you get, which must comply with the guns you have been granted on your licence. This includes make, model and serial number.
Illegal in Britain are: fully automatic weapons, semi-automatic full-bore rifles (meaning guns that fire large cartridges that do not have to be hand cocked between each round fired ie, you just need to pull the trigger and it will fire, you do not have to rack the empty cartridge out and a new one in), and guns with a total length under 24" or a barrel length under 12".
If you want to own any of these, you either have to go abroad, or apply for a Section 5 licence. These are extremely rare, and almost impossible to get. For one of these, you must have an extremely good reason, simply target shooting is not enough - the application goes to the Home Office, who make the decision. The only people I know who have been granted Section 5 licences are the people who train the SAS (the elite in Britain's armed forces).
Also available are Section 7(3) licenses. These are slightly easier to get. This means that you can own pistols or revolvers of a historic value, but they must be kept at a shooting club, which will have had rigorous security checks done. You may only shoot them at that particular club.
Just FYI.

Nowhere to Land (2000)
Very gripping
I only saw the last 15 minutes of this film, so I cannot say what the overall film was like, however, the part I saw was very good. The acting was very impressive, and the fear was very believable. I was very scared, just from that fifteen minutes, and when it finished I realised that I was shaking, I had been so frightened. Usually when I am channel hopping, I don't stop at films. This one had me gripped from the moment I selected its channel. I, personally recommend it to anyone who likes lots of tension in a film. The only down side is, I never want to go on an American airline now. I really want to see the rest of what promises to be a great film.
