Deadloch (2023)
This show is awesome!!
As another reviewer mentioned, this series is a breath of fresh air.
I only discovered it from finishing watching Jack Ryan and it auto played after Jack Ryan finished - pure chance :)
It has so much clever humour crammed into almost every scene.
The characters are all quirky and have their place in the town of Deadloch.
I like the fact that it is very feminist orientated in the cast as its nice not to watch the usually style of cast you are accustomed to see.
It's also nice to see an Australian show on streaming as it is very lacking and we need more of this. The Tasmanian scenery is beautiful even though the town is fictional.
Somos. (2021)
Different side of Narco life.....and that last episode gets you
I was very surprised by this mini series.
It show life in a small town with the cartel infiltrated in life in pockets. Most of the episodes move at a slow burn with small character deveoplment across many of the demographic of this small town.
I have to say the ending (last episode) was shocking and really moved me. The fact that this is based on true events that happened in the town of Allenede is even more worrying.
I think when you watch a narco show the gangsters and their life is often glamorised for the screen but here especially the last episode you see the real horror and senseless violence these people inflict to innocent people.
Tenet (2020)
simply.... The Masterpiece of Masterpieces
This movie IS complicated.
But when you watch it several times you appreciate the level of detail to cover all the timelines happening simultaneously in the one scene in many instances.
I can understand the gripe with the audio as I had to turn it up really loud to try and understand it.
The actors are all first class. The surprise for me was Robert Pattinson who I wasn't a fan of but he played his character so well.
I love how you can keep watching this an uncover more and more about the story that you didn't know in previous watchings. It is so intricately layered in complexity and Christopher Nolan has knack of detailing it all out.... you just need to figure it out when viewing.
All in all I can't remember enjoying watching a movie in such a long time like I did with Tenet. A real thinking persons movie :)
Ted Lasso (2020)
A series about heart, soul and kindness
I initially watched because I like football (soccer) but really this show is what the world needs in a time full of bad news.
It is such an uplifting show with such a feel good factor about life's lessons. I truly feel good after watching this show and that's why I rated it a 10/10.
The characters are all acted out well and yes some of them are very stereotypical but it's the positive messages you get out of this which hooks you in.
A true standout show for all the right reasons.
Ps don't worry if you don't like football/soccer you will still like this show.
Dark (2017)
Sublime Masterpiece
Simply one of the best shows I have watched in my life!
Everything is top notch in this show, the acting, the casting, lighting, music but the real standout is the mind blowing story.
I have never watched a something where my mind is continually bending to keep up with what is happening. What I like about the show is it doesn't leave much to the imagination in terms of ambiguity. The story teller explains what is happening in what is a very complicated storyline and deserves kudos for that.
There seems to be a few threads talking about the dubbing in English. For me why would you bother, just watch it in German with subtitles. You lose so much of the emotion when you watch a dubbed soundtrack.
An absolute masterpiece!
Rogue One (2016)
This is the best Star Wars film - ok maybe 2nd to Empire
I can't believe there are some reviews claiming no story line or it was boring??
This is pretty much the most Star Wars film since the originals.
The story jumps over scene to scene the start very quickly to keep pace with the film. And what a pace it is. The ending that builds is one of the best battle scenes followed by a link ending which is a nostalgic tribute to A New Hope beginning.
The droid was so good and funny. The rebels were acted well by characters that seemed like genuine people fighting for a cause. That 'Darth Vader scene'. The blasts from the past (tbh I wasn't a fan of the CGI characters). The ending of endings. This film encapsulates the Star Wars universe far better than any of the prequels.
This is what a Star Wars universe film should be.
Victoria (2015)
What a Gem of a Movie!
I watched this on a 99c itunes rental and what a gem of a movie.
The soundtrack is so magical especially Nils Frahm- Them. I read after I watched the movie it was done in one take...amazing.
If you are after something different to your usual Hollywood garbage then this will do it for you.
To anyone saying how could Victoria just go ahead with doing things in the movie, remember she is alone in the city, drunk, and probably was abit adventuress to begin with. She also backed out of the night a few times so in the end got caught up with the circumstances.
The bond the guys have is great along with it being shot continuously as if you were there on a night out on the town.
The nightclub scene towards the end was euphoric with the music substituted and captures their raw emotion of what has just happened.
Do yourself a favor and watch this film.
