Drive My Car (2021)

The further they drive, the more subtle
18 November 2021
What an engrossing film about two flawed people. They both have dealt with loss. Eventually, Driving further is a kind of therapy for them. There are many moving aspects I easily relate to .For example, the art of acting . Moreover, the movie is full of stunning elements that make itself become one of contemporary classic movie in Japanese cinema. I am obsessed with anything in this film especially cinematography. Hidetoshi Nishijima is DILF (Daddy, I like to ..fall in love) type.

What a Badass Movie
17 August 2021
It's not Drive or Fast and Furious franchise but one of the badass movies I 've ever seen. This movie was created by someone who loves action movies. Although there are few action scenes, it's the real emotional outlet from a heartbroken movie geek. Creating something and acting like a favorite movie character are cool types of therapy. It also depicts the fragility of masculinity. Bellflower is a tribute to old-school action movies.

Masterpiece of NWD and Tom Hardy
17 April 2021
This offbeat biography movie is surprisingly fun, darkly funny and adrenaline rushing. Thanks to Tom Hardy's powerful performance and applied art stuff, this movie is about an epic portrait of criminal artist. Moreover, it's the counterpart of Drive (2011 by Nicolas Winding Refn) because it also tells the protagonist's masculinity. If the Driver's masculinity in Drive is positive, Bronson's masculinity would be negative but they both have something in common. They both might be cinema lovers (Ryan Gosling's character works as a stuntman while Tom Hardy's character was named after a legendary action star: Charles Bronson) Furthermore, the OST is really dope.

Great cast but too much melodramatic
15 April 2021
This movie could have been great if the two charming protagonists ended up being lovers. Anyway, I love some scenes (beach scenes)that were tribute to Moonlight (2016 Barry Jenkins). It has some potentials to be a memorable film. Unfortunately, it's too sappy and the final showdown was just Akira wannabee .

Bloody Fun
9 April 2021
So senseless it's bloody fun and great cathartic. The MVP is Joe Taslim as "cool" badass Sub Zero. But I don't understand why the movie did not feature the original theme song instead of forgettable remix.

a bittersweet love story that is really heartfelt
18 March 2021
Personally it's an honest romance movie because you will meet someone like Harper (I think Mackenzie Davis did a wonderful job and I have empathy for her), Abby, John or Riley including some fussy parents. Because every story is different like John said and nobody is perfect. I really like it so much that I have watched 4 times in theaters. but I wish there would be much more moments that Mackenzie and Kristen stayed together especially after her coming out to patch things up . This movie is like milk coffee. It tastes bittersweet but really good.

Like reading a photographic journal of the legendary cinematographer
5 March 2021
When I watched this movie, I felt like I was reading Robby's journal that was composed of photos and videos including his fellows' interview. Therefore, the audience would understand how much he was obsessed with taking pictures with practical elements especially art of lighting. His responsibility as a cinematographer was sometimes similar to thespian's role because he needed to interpret lots of screenplays for his portrayals but he did not act out. He just shot with cameras and let the pictures tell everything.

What a vivid nostalgia
11 January 2021
The lesson from watching this movie is the fact that I sometimes love appreciating and having interaction with "pretty little things" (like expired canned pineapple) to remind me of someone I loved (I feel like I am Cop 223) and to seek for new relationship. Anyway, Faye Wong's character came across as a kind of stalker.

Most of the audience love "California Dreamin" in this movie but I prefer "Baroque" (Michael Galasso) so much

Unfairly Underrated Movie
11 January 2021
This movie is not the classic like the Terminator and Judgment Day . Some cgi scenes look a bit cheap and it is so predictable BUT quite enjoyable. The action set pieces are thrilling. Moreover, it is unexpectedly emotional because this is a kind of romantic action movie. This movie is dope.

I am glad that Sarah Connor's story is complete. Anyway I do love the relationship between Grace Harper (Mackenzie Davis is the best) and Dani Ramos so much. It hits me right in the feels although Dani's character was underwritten .

Takashi Miike is back with the most romantic fun movie
11 January 2021
A boxer (Masataka Kubota) is in the same league as Ryan Gosling in Drive (2011) because he had to fight against bad guys to protect a girl but was much luckier. Because he has fought 20% while all the bad guys (Yakuza, Chinese gangsters and bad cops) killed each other!!!!

What a blood soaked rom-com with the darkest comedy and satisfying action set. After many disappointing movies, this movie is Miike's comeback.

By the River (2013)

Mysteriously beautiful
30 November 2014
At the lower Klity village, a group of young men go to the river for fishing. The others stay at home or go to school Their lives seem peaceful despite lack of electricity. Nevertheless what I've seen at first is just a surface.

This film is based on a famous case during 1999. A group of Klity villagers had filed a lawsuit against the lead mine since it polluted the community's river. As their action seemed hopeless, they still had to rely on that unclean river which was compared as their vein. They have been suffering toxins of the water.

"By the river" would have been another stereotypical documentary if it intended to be informative. On the Contrary, this is a kind of poetic docudrama that the audience could feel with the people and understand them. Thanks to memorizing cinematography, this film is peaceful yet haunting. Furthermore, it also contains elements of suspense film when one of the Klity villagers disappeared. By the way, Nontawat Numbenchapol made a previous documentary called Fahtum Pandinsoong (Boundary) which was sadly banned in Thailand due to sensitive issue of international relations between Thailand and Cambodia.

There's something missing, Something unforgettable
4 February 2014
What a teacher said about the book named "The Life of Marianne" is the reflection of Adele(including Emma)'s life.

"There's something missing."

During 3 hours, I have seen the main characters searching for something called love to fulfill their lives. As for Adele, love is consuming (food, knowledge, body). When she meets the right one Emma, she thinks Emma could respond what Adele needs. Their love is blooming, passionate and intensive until they grow up. Adele is still voracious for Emma but Emma seems callous to her. Emma's love is just an inspiration for artistic creativity . Thus their love is like parallel which never join anymore. Eventually, the blue color which warms Adele is not from Emma. It's from herself environmentally ,e.g., her blue bedroom, the blue sea she goes to , the blue dress she wears.

When I heard this movie won Palm d'Or, this was in my "wanna see so bad" list.In spite of controversies, the director and the actors realized they should let the movie speak by itself. Obviously, Adele Exarchopoulos is the great discovery. She spellbinds me entirely so I forget that this movie is 3 hour long. I see her happy, I feel happy with her. I see her devastated, I cry with her. Meanwhile the story wouldn't be fulfilled if there wasn't Lea Seydoux's memorable performance although she doesn't appear as much as Adele. She can support and interact with Adele chemically like they really love each other. And I notice that Lea is very good at telling a story with her eyes. When I look at her eyes, I would know what's going on and how it's going to be.

Lastly, I would like to thank Abdellatif Kechiche, Adele Exarchopoulos, Lea Seydoux and anyone involved in this movie for having created the real epic of cinema.

Spider Lilies (2007)

Not the great but touching and subtle
22 January 2008
It looked like another typical lesbian movie when I saw the commercial of this movie but actually this movie is so interesting, touching and desirable after watching this movie.

It depicts a relationship of two girls Jade and Takeko.Jade is a web-cam girl who always thinks her world is beautiful although her world means her colorfully decorated bedroom for service. Her thought is actually to cover her painful past. The other is Takeko. She is a tattoo artist who always thinks her painful past (leaving her brother alone and the death of her dad ) is her fault. She has Spider lilies tattooed on her arm.One day,Jade asks Takeko for Spider lilies because Jade can remember that her first love was a girl who had Spider Liliies tattooed.

The main issue of this movie is about remembrance which drives two girls love each other.so their relationship is tender and touching meanwhile this movie can portray how the internet world that many teenagers usually rely on and the real world which they attempt to escape conflict. So this story is powerful and this movie would have been the best if there were not some unnecessary scenes to interrupt the emotion Such as Ah-Dong scenes.

Nevertheless, the performances of two leading actresses are outstanding and effective.Raine Yang as Jade can develop herself from a teen pop star to be a promising starlet. Her character looks simple.Actually, she is still finding real love in the real world. While Isabella Leong as Takeko is the greatest highlight.Sincerely,I have loved this woman instantly when she appears. She looks mysterious and introvert but she is artistic and sensitive. Before being Takeko,a cool girl(or guy) ,Isabella has been several different characters from sweet girl(bug me not) to a psycho(Diary). When she becomes Takeko, she is desirable and subtle. She can portray deep emotion by her manner although speaking mandarin is an obstacle because she usually speaks Cantonese in a lot of HK movies. This movie is able to prove how talented she is but I am surprised why these two didn't get nominated any awards.

Don't judge the outside, just open your mind and understand the inside
22 January 2008
I remember that when this movie released the trailer ,it convinced many people to misunderstand that it was a cute teenage movie like many blockbusters from GTH like Seasons change ,Dear Dakanda,My girl.Until they saw this movie, many audience felt very upset because it was a gay movie.

Nevertheless,I think this movie is surprisingly great I've ever thought. It's more than a gay movie. It also portrays family problems as well as teenager's.It is a story about two boys Tong and Mew who confront losing.Tong lost his sister so his parents is down falling while Mew lost his grandma who was only his love in all his life. Everyone in this movie needs something vital to fulfill all life. Something is called Love. This movie can show how powerful love is. Love can inspire Mew to write and sing a lovely song.Love can make this movie enjoyable and impressive easily because the powerful love for making this movie. So I admire Madaew, the director who is able to prove how to make effective movies from a social criticizing horror like 13Beloved to a powerful love story.

Besides that, the performances in this movie are excellently outstanding.Especially, the veteran SinJaI as Tong's mom who must encounter several problems bravely such as losing her daughter, alcoholic husband even having realized a shocking truth about her son.She looks inconsiderate and fussy but actually she still love her husband and son deeply. When she is sad,she will cry naturally but makes me hurt so much meanwhile the other actors were able to act very well.I hope that the teen actors in this movie will be promising stars soon.
