Shadow and Bone (2021–2023)
4/10
liked what I could see, but
23 April 2021
There's too much too dark. What's the point of not being able to see what's happening for most of the first episode?

I'm going to keep watching, but it's very irksome that I can't tell what's what.

Not really a Sherlock story, so far
26 March 2021
I think some reviewers are too hung up on Sherlock Holmes. If it didn't have Sherlock and Watson in it, what would you think? Then it would just be a spooky period piece.

I like it so far, but needs to be more clear, which I hope will be better as it goes along.

Carmilla (2019)
murky sound, beautiful story
15 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this movie. It had some great cinematography, especially shots of nature, but I would have liked to know what I was looking at and what they were doing, and not just the animals. Some spots in the movie were very dark.

I did think the exchange of blood between the two girls and their kisses were adequate to establish the transfer of any vampiric essence, if in fact we're sticking to classic vampirology.

My biggest gripe about Carmilla was the frequently unclear sound. Garbled speech was maddening. If speech is going to be difficult to hear, the least they could do is make captions.

I wanted to like this movie ...
7 September 2020
Maybe I just saw a bad copy, but the sound on this was horrible. The speech was garbly and the music overwhelmed what I could hear coming out of the mouths of the characters. Certain things I could understand only in hindsight, and I was guessing at some of what seemed to happen. And the story moved too slowly. Speeding things up would have helped. The biggest thing would have been to quiet down or eliminate the sound track.

You Me Her (2016–2020)

hard to rate, but I liked it
13 June 2020
Lots of reviews, couldn't get through them all, some were excessively dour or nasty, some were excessively loving and gooey. I'm tending strongly toward the positive side. I was looking forward to it before it got here, and mostly I haven't been disappointed. Like all shows, and like life, there are good spots and bad. There are many social issues that arise with shows like this. Polyamory is not polygamy as most people know it. This one has two women, but there are poly relationships with two men, which actually makes more sense. As people live longer, relationships tend to be less long-lived. Or people mix things up. They have additional partners as do Emma and Jack. I was part of a sporadic threesome and the couple I joined had its ups and downs. We didn't flaunt it, but some people objected. Most didn't care .

I feel sorry for people who don't watch whole thing

This took a while to get going, but it's worth it in the end. If you can't stick with it, you get what you deserve.

Lost in Space (2018–2021)
nice female cast, abysmal science
14 April 2018
I don't understand the misogynistic reviews of this series. It is set 30 years in the future, so I think many thing can change in our society in 30 years, such as gender roles and identities. Same with ostensible race. A lot has changed in the past 30 years, just extrapolate. The space science and planetary science is like being in a parallel universe. It can be enjoyed, but a pretty major suspension of disbelief is required.
