Brilliantly campy and scary!
22 April 2024
This is a movie that for once actually lives up to the hype. I absolutely love the original idea behind it. It comes at a time when it feels like horror has lost its way to cheap remakes and sequels. The cleverly placed nods to other horror movies, and the campy cinematography and style were great tributes to the 70s. The characters were beautifully acted by everyone involved. I also felt the pace of the movie moved along perfectly. Plenty of time to dive into the characters and build to the climactic finale. The ending was interesting, to say the least, but I don't know that it could have been done better. So yourself a favor, and watch this one. You won't be disappointed!

This generation's Lost... but scarier
21 April 2023
I'm so glad I saw the banner of this running on Prime. Checked it out just for fun and binge watched the whole first season in 3 days! The first episodes were truly frightening, while at the same time it immediately draws you into the characters that make this town. As with many of today's drama thrillers, no characters are safe. There are twists and turns throughout, even though some people call it a slow burn. I think the pace is great, and I cannot wait to see season 2. Some of the actors are better than others, but there are several stand out performers that pick up the bit of slack. I hope word gets out about this one, because it is a keeper!

Visually stunning familiar story with a modern twist
10 December 2022
I truly don't understand all the bad reviews. The characters were interesting, the acting was good, and the cinematography was absolutely brilliant. The mid century backdrop was flawless, and the story line kept me intrigued. Was it flawed at times? Yes. Was it very reminiscent of Stepford Wives? Absolutely! But I felt it was clever enough, to not be a complete rip off, as some would imply. I think the drama that surrounded the movie off screen brought people to it on the defense. Florence was fantastic, as well as Chris, Olivia and Harry. I think people are being far too critical. Relax, and enjoy a visually perfect movie that is almost great!

Too much
25 September 2022
At some point I was just like wtf. It started off interesting, and the premise was nothing super original. Your typical home invasion type of movie. The last half of the movie just turned into a shock fest of bloody violence. I love horror, and I'm far from squeamish, but this just made me feel dirty in the end. It seems like the entire purpose of it was to just gross you out. Honestly i have no idea how it got a rated r. Very disturbing. I kept watching it, even though i wanted to turn it off, so i guess there is that. Not sure that I think this movie was necessary. The ending made it the worst.

Wow, this was not good
10 August 2022
I hope it would be good, but it was just bad on every level. The statement it attempted to make was noble, but between the bad acting and terrible script it was impossible to connect in any way with the characters. It's stars are mostly for the attempt to bring to light the continued struggles that lgbt face in society. Disappointed.

More wanna be woke, again
22 March 2022
This is yet another failed attempt in the string of "woke" movies that just ended up being a huge mess. Jordan Peele's masterpiece, Get Out, was horror on a level that made you examine society to the core and face the racial disparity that existed in the past and continues to permeate our culture today. This was a shlocky, heavy handed preach fest that not only became ridiculous, but rarely even made sense. Witches, evil white people, haunted houses .... None of which every really wove much of a plot. The characters were also weak and you had no feelings for them, which made it hard for you to empathize with the drama they faced. The ending was just silly, and again tried to capitalize on the race issues that we are all very aware of by now. Love Regina, and was hoping this would have been powerful and scary. It's was pase and dull. Sorry.

Huge disappointment
22 February 2022
As a horror fan, and a fan of the franchise, I can't express how disappointed I was with this. The only think in this that even ties it to the franchise is the existence of Leatherface and Sally. Btw, Leatherface has aged much better than Sally after 50 years. Super weak story line, and no family, no nothing. The 3 stars was for the somewhat creative kills, and decent fx. This was easily the worst in the franchise, right next to Part 2.

Lots of fun!
13 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved it from the beginning until the end! I was not crazy about the choice for winner, although I loved Grag. I just think Ava should have won. The judges were very nice... maybe too nice? I'm still on the fence with that part. It was fun to see performers from other countries, but I still feel the U. S. was a little over represented. All in all, a step up RuPaul production... which says a lot for the drag franchise. Hope to see another season of mega talented queens. Oh, and keep the same judges!

I can't stop crying!
14 November 2021
This is better than just a drag show. It's healing, it's educating, it's sharing love. Coming from a small town before I moved to California, I could relate to basically every story on this. I LOVE how the producers have integrated allies, and those who are learning along side these professional queens. I was very skeptical at first. Thought it would be just another way to promote RuPauls Drag Race ( which is just fine! Love it). Could not be more wrong. America gets to see that there is more to drag than wigs and make up!!

20 min of my life I can't get back. Worst acting I've ever seen, stupid cliches, and horrible effects. I tried to give it a chance ,but couldn't get past the low budget acting and effects.

Brilliant Drama with a touch of horror
28 September 2021
Just like Mike's "Haunting" mini series's, there is so much to this than a mere horror story. In fact like the others, it is simply a layer of excellent story telling. I would call this "Midsommer meets Wickerman and Invasion of the Body snatchers", but that sounds like a scary movie. This is just fantastic. Slow, intentional, and creepy!

Settle down and enjoy the fun
2 August 2021
Is it perfection? No. Is AHS? No. Please stop trying to make them the same things. This has all of the elements of AHS that make it a fun spin off. Horror, camp, some familiar faces, "Murphy Boys", and it doesn't take itself nearly as seriously as some of the fans do! There are some flaws here and there, but it definitely has originality and edge of the seat stories. Come on, we have already had Matt Bomer, Paris Jackson, Adrienne Barbeau, and Danny Trejo! I can't wait to see who else pops up. A-list actors and up and coming teen actors are all over this. The development is far superior to any other weekly shows out there that dive so deep in a one hour anthology. This is a great first time out for this type of show, and I look forward to the rest of the season. Fingers crossed for an even bigger and better season two!

Friends: The Reunion (2021 TV Special)

Cried my brains out
28 May 2021
It was literally like watching home movies and reminiscing with your true "friends"! The chemistry they continue to have together is like nothing that has existed since then. What great producers and cast. To see them all again together was as emotional for us as it was for them. There were quite a few cameos from stars that were barely alive at the time, and I would have much rather heard more behind the scene stories. I felt bad that the guest stars, especially Tom Selleck and Janice, got rushed through to make room for Justin Bieber and people I've never heard of. All of that aside I give it a 10. I thought I wanted another episode, but the way this was put together felt just right , and I'm so glad they didn't. Not going to lie, a movie would not be terrible. What a great decision for all involved!!

A cliche from the beginning to end
5 April 2021
I always feel bad when I see a good actor slowly digressing from bad to worse in acting choices. Clearly Mina needed the money to do this poorly written movie, on a low budget, that was so predictable it was almost laughable. The hot leading guy was about the only thing that kept the show going, and that barely did it with his caked on make up and freakishly black hair. It started out looking like it could be interesting, but ultimately you didn't even feel for the characters. Entertaining at its very best points, and just pitiful at its worst. Good movie to watch it you have few options or just want to pass time looking at the hot guy. Lol.

Octavia killed it!!
1 April 2021
This was one of the best horror movies I've seen ! Dark comedy, excellent acting, edge of seat tension, and a great soundtrack. What else could you ask for. Octavia and Juliette stole the show in my opinion. The younger cast was believable and likable. I absolutely loves this!!!!

Oh yeah, it's petty scary!
30 March 2021
This movie has all the makings of a true classic. The atmosphere and cinematography is flawless. The soundtrack adds to the nearly perfect action. A slow burner, with plenty of jolts and WTF moments to keep you engaged. The only thing is that it fell apart toward the end. With a very weak plot line, I can see how it would be though to wrap it up correctly. Please don't let that stop you from watching this great offering of modern more psychological horror. It delivers for sure!

Good slow burner
26 January 2021
It was slow paced, but enough going on to keep me on the edge of my seat. It's like a Wickerman/Midsommer Tropical vacation from hell. No major twists in this fairly predictable tale, but a tense ride though the entire movie. The atmosphere is isolating, with its remote locations and primitive touches. Tense, suspenseful, and a great builder. End could have been better, but overall a great watch. I recommend it!

Scared the heck out of me
8 November 2020
This was such an awesome story, and it caught me way off guard! It was interesting on its own, following a boy that had his own problems he was battling. Then came Richard and HIS demons. The haunting creatures in this gave me nightmares! I rarely get scared after seeing so many scary movies, but this one had me not wanting to open my eyes in my dark bedroom! Great development for a short story, but don't plan on getting to sleep soon after watching it!

Just bleh
31 March 2020
Really? Positive it's not a remake. Negative they use all the scenes from the original. Nothing new here, and the main characters are one dimensional. There are a few good jumps, and it does have John Woo and Lyn Shea. Those are my 3 reasons for five very lenient stars. The ghosts were total Cg. They were the only thing I wanted to see from the first one, and that wasn't even there. Jumps all over the place with little continuity, and you never feel connected to any of the characters. To me it's just seemed like a quick attempt to grab a few bucks off a franchise that has been outgrown. Did they not learn from Rings? Disappointed that Sam Rami or Ghosthouse would want to be attached to this.

The sheer camp alone makes this a classic!
27 January 2020
Everything you want in an 80's teen slasher, plus the beautiful Linda Blai and heartthrob Vincent Van Patten. What else could you want?! I remember this movie scaring the crap out of me when I was a teenager and we would have "video parties" at our house. A true camp classic. Watched it tonight and I wouldn't say it has held up fantastically, but the last 45 minutes did have me pretty engaged. If you haven't seen it, take and hour and a half out of your life and just have some fun!

Not horrible.... give it a chance if you have free time.
10 September 2019
Certainly nothing to write home about, but it did keep me intrigued. It's slow moving, and works up to a pretty gruesome ending. No surprise twists, and the acting is ok with a very solid performance by Carolyn Hennessy. It kind of wants to be a spin off of AHS Asylum, but doesn't quite make it. Flawed at best, I still felt like it was worth the watch. I found myself drawn toward most of the characters, despite a weak script. Give it a shot. Your might like it!

What just happened to me?
6 July 2019
As many already suggested, go into this knowing as little as possible. This movie will not be for everyone. It is not a scary movie cut from today's typical cloth. It reminds me of 60s and 70s horror like Kubrick and Polanski. Smart, deliberate, beautifully shot slow burn that grips you from the beginning and holds on until they decide to let you breathe with the horror. Ari is a director that cannot be reckoned with in my opinion. I left this movie feeling exactly how I felt after Hereditary. Disturbed, uncomfortable, and knowing I will be thinking about it for a long time. Florence was brilliant at making you feel for her, while being just neurotic enough that you felt for her boyfriend along the way. Also, this movie makes you feel every emotion, even ones you don't want to! Lines are blurred between good and evil, what is ok to see or not see, and an ending that leaves you wanting more. Go see this if you want something very different and powerful. Be prepared for large doses of gore, "unsavory" topics, and non gratuitous full nudity. They are part of the movie, and I'm not sure if i would have changed any of it, even though I feel they distract from most movies. Another masterpiece by A24 studios.

A masterpiece of modern day horror and suspense
9 December 2018
Monsters, nope. Gore, nope. Gratuitous nudity, nope.... scary as f??? Yes!! This movie is absolutely brilliant. From the first second of this movie you know things "just ain't right". Like the reality of today's society, people are putting on smiles as if everything is perfect, yet there is something barely under the surface that is is more than disturbing. I don't want to spoil anything, but rent this thriller that will have you laughing, and curled up in the corner all at the same time. Not one "jump scare" in the entire movie, yet effectively immerses you into a dark place that is much more frightening than a camp in the woods with a hockey mask wearing maniac. At least there you know what to be afraid of. Rent this tosay

Unreal!
3 November 2018
The acting and music in this was Oscar worthy! Incredible portrayal of such an iconic group and singer. Only thing that cost it two stars in my book was the almost homophonic skirting of the AIDS part. I appreciate that it was not the whole topic of the film but it was basically brushed off. I think that could have tied a stronger emotional bond to the crowd. Every major role that was cast was brilliant, and it seems that everyone from beind the camera to the actors were 100% committed to this instant masterpiece.
