I was just scrolling through Netflix, looking for something new to watch, and saw this title. I was a little hesitant at first for fear of it being a little too much, but I am so glad I started watching! Every episode finds a way to jerk a few tears and makes you say "oh wow!" It is truly awesome seeing the Fab 5 bring out the best in people. The show doesn't revolve around the Fab 5 bashing anyone's habits, but instead shows how each person reveals a deeper identity of the nominated guest. I love this show and truly cannot wait for more episodes!

Hilarious!

If you enjoy dumb humor and have seen your fair share of mystery shows, this is a show for you. The cover and part of the trailer leads viewers to believe that this is an actual crime investigation, but it is so much better than that. The satire that pokes fun at mystery shows and follows closely in their portrayal of crimes is actually well thought out. Each episode leaves you with a true sense of "what next?". Although the series was hilarious and thought out, the ending wasn't as conclusive as it could have been. It left viewers with a sense of wonder and not sure closure. Other than that it was down right hilarious!

The Office (2005–2013)

Warning: Spoilers
I love The Office, plain and simple. I have watched all 9 seasons at least 3 times all the way through and I enjoy picking random episodes to view at times.

You have to be forgiving as some seasons (such as season 1) are not a grand as others or not as intriguing. All in all though, The Office is funny, witty, and charming. As the seasons go on we get more in-depth views of each character. We see them as more than folks who just work in an office, but as people with struggles and triumphs that we can personally attest to.

The humor is not always in-your-face or laugh out loud which some people prefer. Instead it is implanted in Jim's "really" glances at the cameras, Dwight's obsession with Bears, Beets, and Battlestar Galactica. It's found in subtle lines such as "who is Justice Beaver?", "Boycott Steamtown Mall!", "That's what she said" and many other well- placed phrases that are clever and comical,

There will also be scenes that will make you cry every time, without fail, like when Jim and Pam getting married. Those are the tender moments in the show that will always bring you back for more as you grow closer to the ever dynamic people of The Office.

Atypical (2017– )

Great Show
31 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Atypical is interesting, funny, and insightful, even for those not close to anyone with Autism. There were plenty of LOL moments and witty lines, as well as darker moments that showed the reality that some families struggle with (cheating, selfishness, sex, etc). All characters came to be well-rounded and relatable. Atypical also gave neurotypicals such as myself a view into the mind of people who struggle greatly with day to day activities. The end of season one leaves room for a lot of growth and I am hopeful for a season 2 soon!

Revenge (2011–2015)

Started strong
29 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I watched all of season one and began two before it was removed from Netflix. Season one began in an intriguing, fast paced manner that left you hoping for the next episode and wondering what was next. But they came in a little strong in the beginning with good action and tasteful downfalls, until nearing the middle-end of the season. Season one dragged on and on and spent too many episodes focusing on Conrad and Victoria's crumbling marriage and the personal shots they take at one another. After a few episodes in season 2 the show lost my interest.

My interest was lost because the acting can be so cheesy. Emily and Victoria constantly deliver stiff, obviously rehearsed lines not only to each other, but to everyone the communicate with. It is as if Emily WANTED Vic to know she hated her, and she was making no real effort to be the sweet new girl next door character. No words out of their mouths (even when spoken sincerely) could be heard as such because it sounded so staged.

Too many times do we see Victoria crying to her oh so beloved Daniel that "this is for your own good". He will leave or be mad for an episode or two, and then back into their home as he does, just as expected. Nolan repeatedly makes juvenile remarks such as "omg!" or "shes's cray cray", paired up with his distasteful collared shirt on collared shirt style makes him another far-fetched character.

Jack and Declan are the only two characters I could find to be the least problematic and most believable.

It can be easy to binge watch until you see a film or show with good acting and a stronger plot and realize that the show isn't as awesome as we originally think.

High School Musical (2006 TV Movie)

What Team? Wildcats!
26 August 2017
Reading negative reviews from users on this movie makes me laugh. Those who give High School Musical a measly 1 or 2 stars are the same people who read "millennials are killing..." articles and nod in agreement. They are also the same people who probably went into this movie with actual hopes for some decent acting and a realistic plot. Any expectations will cause a downfall.

If you fully embrace the fact that this movie is a whole new level of dorky and catchy, it makes the experience all the better. It is a film filled with cheesy songs and exuberant choreography that seems to take place in the most random of places. The plot is 100% predictable and the acting is terribly funny. Don't watch any HSM with any intent to really critique it; it's funny because it's bad, so pop some pop corn, sit down, and enjoy the show!

The Shining (1980)

On The Scary Side
24 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I am not one who enjoys scary/horror movies at all, but I know this movie to be deemed a "classic" and a "must see" by many, so I gave it a try.

As the movie is pulled out over some 2 1/2+ hours, it is critical for the building of the story line. For a large portion of the film we watch a seemingly normal family settle into an easy job tending to a large resort in Colorado for a few months in the off-season. The family uses it as a time to both work and relax. All the while viewers know that something is going to go terribly wrong somewhere along the lines.

Unlike in today's "horror" films, the action is not in your face, which has grown to become boring. It is instead slow building as we watch the characters develop. Jack slowly begins to become anxious and upset by his work load and wife, and we watch cabin fever slowly set in as he becomes obsessed with making Wendy (his wife) and Danny (his son) pay for their misbehavior at the resort after a visit from ghosts past.

Within the last 45 minutes or so we watch Jack's mental state come crashing down, and with it he tries to bring his family. He is set on killing them, trashing his ax into the resort's cook and then tearing into their bedroom on a wild hunt for Wendy.

The most spectacular part of it all is not only the famous one-liners ("heeereee's Johnny!!") and light bit of dark humor sprinkled into the madness, but the sheer unpredictability of it all. In the thousands of square feet laid out in front of them, will Danny and Wendy manage their way out? Or will they live (or shall I say die) to haunt The Overlook as well?

The story is not only intriguing, but the acting is authentic, almost to a point where you question the actual mental state of Jack Nicholson. His facial expressions, tone of voice, and mannerisms throughout the film are slow building and hold a lasting affect.

It was a movie that, even today, sets a standard for horror films that many movies fall short of in all of their predictability and tired clichés. Definitely worth the watch.

The Women Who Kill Lions (2016 TV Movie)

Well Done
23 August 2017
As a female who hunts and wishes to hunt more and more I found this documentary to be tastefully done. They covered questions that anyone who does not understand hunting would ask. I also enjoyed, while it still broke my heart, how it was shown that hunters receive hateful comments from people who do not understand hunting. These women are mothers, daughters, and your every-day kind of folk, they are not immune to hate. There seemed to be no bias coming from those narrating and filming and it made the point very clear to all who watched: hunting is not a cruel "sport" for those with blood lust, but instead something done by those who love nature and find a way to connect through their journeys. Very well done, I think anyone with doubts about hunting should watch with an open mind. Hunting is more than an animal's head on your wall or pictures online, it is a way to preserve nature, control populations, create jobs, and feed family.

Gilmore Girls (2000–2007)

Just Awesome
11 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I watched Gilmore Girls with no real intentions of becoming hooked over several months. It had been recommended to me and I am so glad it was. Gilmore Girls has such a unique story with a blend of characters that are one of a kind; each has been carefully fabricated and given thought. The witty conversations and sharp comebacks made me think and then laugh. As the episodes progress you become attached to each person more and more. I do not particularly remember loving the series when I first began watching, but when it ended I felt at a loss. "Gilmore Girls: a Year in the Life" was nowhere near as good.

One thing I found a bit frustrating was the predictability and over-use of irony. One character walks in at the wrong time and doesn't catch the whole story- and the truth of another. The right characters always take forever to find each other. Someone has good news but another character is running their mouth and won't allow them to share. You catch on after a while. Still, it is a well-developed show that is wonderful to watch.

Hilarious
11 August 2017
This movie is an easy one to enjoy over and over again. I think how funny you find the story is relative to your age. As someone newly out of high school, I can tell you that the high school clicks portrayed in this film are a bit far-fetched. I have never heard someone say "you can't sit with us" or of being called "too gay to function". This movie is still simply witty and smart with a story line that is far different from the main stream movies that come out today.

Just Okay
11 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I binge watched Gilmore Girls and went right ahead and watched the four episodes as quickly as I could. I have a few thoughts:

The main issue I had was with Rory's character. No way around it, she became a tramp. She seems to carry on a secret love affair with Logan for months on end while he is married. Suddenly Rory has been reduced to a girl willing to accept being half-loved by a man who is going to be married. Rory herself is even in a relationship of two years in which she seems to forget about and never gets around to breaking up with the poor guy. Because he isn't stunningly handsome or rich, just your average Joe, it's okay to lie and string him along? What is with this new need to glorify cheating? And even after years of school and hard work Rory finds herself back at home, 30 years old, with no sort of life plans that seem to stick? Out of character.

At the risk of sounding stingy, this series was on a PC agenda. The town tries to have a gay pride parade, Paris tries to bring in a surrogate, Taylor says "..or so help me God or x or whoever you pray to," the cheating culture, Rory having a one-night stand when that is not her. Not to mention the crowds at the dinner with man buns, being obsessed over the wifi password, and their obsession over Iphones. It was so out of touch and cringey.

It was a good series, it felt like meeting up with an old friend, but it really lost its charm and didn't feel right in the end. Some relationships stayed the same, other characters were warped by delusional writers.
