The Twilight Zone: Not All Men (2019)
Season 1, Episode 7

Left-wing agenda infects the Twilight Zone
25 May 2019
I have liked some of the new Twilight Zone episodes, but I have noticed since the start of the series that a few of the episodes are basically just being used as soapboxes for left-wing politics and ideals.

It doesn't really matter if you are left-wing or right-wing or middle-of-the-road in your beliefs, it doesn't need to be shoved down your throat whilst watching the Twilight Zone.

I've enjoyed most of the episodes so far, but I did take some exception to the earlier episode of the camera that could rewind time (the suggestion that an entire white police force would terrorise a black-majority college campus was pathetic and offensive to white people, not to mention the only portrayal of white people in it as psychotic rednecks) and this episode.

This episode is a sad example of third-wave feminism making yet another pointless attempt to suggest all men are dangerous and inherently evil due to hormones and how they are born. I'm not sure how they can spout this kind of nonsense without realising that they themselves are being sexist.

I'd like to see the reaction if a Twilight Zone episode had loads of women becoming massively promiscuous in order to get pregnant because meteorites messed with their oestrogen.

Keep politics and agendas for the news and YouTube and stop ruining shows..

Castle Rock (2018–2019)
7/10
Extremely disappointed by last two episodes
16 March 2019
Castle Rock is a wonderfully weird, creepy. mysterious serious with good script, acting and everything else.

I chain-watched it over a couple of days when I was off and I really enjoyed it. There is a thick sense of mystery that you are desperate to cut through to find the answer, and for the first few episodes this is effectively constructed with lots of excellent Stephen King references.

Sadly, the last two episodes completely destroyed the series for me and I could hardly believe they'd decided to take that particular route. I won't say anything of the plot to avoid spoilers, but to me, the last two episodes felt like the writers had built so much mystery up that they confused themselves and finally just threw in a hastily created finale to explain things.

I haven't been so disappointed in a long time by such a promising series.

I rated Castle Rock a 7 because it is genuinely an excellent series but is severely compromised by the final two episodes.

Bad acting, bad plot. Possibly a film student project.
28 February 2019
This film is NOT worth wasting time over.

The three main actresses are decent enough at acting (pregnant woman, not so much) but the "actress" playing Cami is a very poor actor. There are some parts where she may as well be reading from a sheet of paper - it's actually possible to tell that she's misunderstood some of the punctuation in her lines by how she says them. There are some cringe-worthy moments when she plays angry, high or crazy.

The plot is simple and relatively uninteresting with highly unlikable characters. However, these characters didn't really need to be likable or fleshed-out, since the plot doesn't really go anywhere and the ending is neither climactic nor anti-climactic, it just kind of goes nowhere.

The multitude of other reviews giving 9/10 and 10/10 are interestingly all written around the same time (around 18th July 2017) and each reviewer created an account just to review this film. Clearly fake reviews. I wish IMDb would have someone check the reviews and delete these blatantly obvious fake reviews.

Atomic Blonde (2017)

Brilliant fem-Bond-action.

Charlize Theron is the perfect female MI6 agent - beautiful with a perfect body, good acting (bit dodgy on the English accent

Fashion and music is dead on.

James McAvoy does a exceptional English accent.

Action scenes are my favourite - very realistic - one of my friends thought it was too real and didn't like to watch.

HOWEVER. Film should've ended in that interview room. But. of course, the Americans have to make a pathetic cameo at the end. ugh.

Well acted (except some dodgy accents - English and Russian). Awesome action. Spoiled by ending.

This film wins aesthetically - 80s style music, Charlize Theron in perfect fashion, i.e. what we now like to think of as "retro".

Anyway, I can't stand long reviews I need to skim through...

SO, excellent acting overall, though Charlize's English accent is kind of hmmmm.

Action scenes are awesome - realistic

Story - was good until the end. SPOILER (maybe? not really...) it could have ended in that interview room - Americans got inolved... why??? Oh cuz they filmed it. ugh.

The entire film does not involve Americans at all (story-wise) but they HAVE to be inserted, of course! Cuz they love to destroy culture! And, no, Theron is not American.

Solid, Entertaining Slasher
3 October 2017
This does not deserve a 4.8 which is it's current rating as I write this.

Acting is good - no one's going to win an Oscar, but it's on the higher-end of slasher film acting. The effects are good and there is plenty of action.

No, it's not an amazing plot and no, it's not entirely logical, but ultimately, how many slashers are? If you are genuinely watching Texas Chainsaw 3D for logic and an amazing plot: YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.

If you're looking to be entertained by some hack and slash chainsaw action with good production and decent-to-good acting, you could do a hell of a lot worse than this.

Camino (2015)
7/10
A pretty solid, underrated survival thriller
7 July 2016
As I'm writing this, Camino has a score of 4.8, which is an excessively low score. I've actually noticed a trend on IMDb where a lot of films are given extremely poor ratings when they're just not that bad and Camino is definitely one of these films. It's unfortunate because I know some people will watch or not watch a film based on the IMDb score, which means a lot of good or decent movies are probably being missed out on.

A lot of other reviewers are complaining of bad acting, but I can only assume they are exaggerating or just haven't watched a wide range of films. The acting is not "bad" - it's not necessarily award-winning stuff, but it's certainly not bad. Usually, if I'm watching a film with bad acting, I find it difficult to get into as I can't become absorbed in it and am constantly aware that I'm watching (bad) actors, but that never happened once to me while watching Camino. I think Zoe Bell is actually very impressive for a stunt-woman-turned- actress.

Also, do not skip the first ten minutes of the film as another reviewer said, it is relevant to the film and what happens during the first ten minutes helps to make sense of another scene that happens around midway through the film.

The only thing I would criticize is that Zoe Bell's character seems a little too skilled in combat for a photojournalist going up against militia members who've presumably had experience in guerilla warfare. It's saved, though, by the fact that most of the fighting lacks any crazy martial arts moves on Zoe Bell's part and instead sticks to dirty, survival style fighting, maintaining an element of realism.

Overall, I think this movie is pretty solid and I've definitely seen a lot worse.

Area 51 (2015)

No one does night shift at Area 51?
10 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is a stupid film.

Where are all the guards? Are we really expected to believe that if the US government had a spacecraft in Area 51 there would be no one guarding it?

There's a lab with alien technology and a device that negates gravity just lying in some unlocked side room.

The characters are VERY loud for people "sneaking" into top secret military base. They speak loudly and whisper loudly. They run down corridors shouting to each other, voices echoing. The girl irritatingly shout-whispers "OH MY GOD THEY'RE GOING TO HEAR US" - so stop shouting and maybe they won't hear you? Although I don't know who they think is going to hear them since according to this film no one does night shift in Area 51.

They eventually set off some alarm and the only two guards that apparently are on duty chase them around a bit.

The only good thing about this film is the irritating characters all probably die in the end.

Ridiculously low IMDb score
28 August 2015
This film is not anywhere nearly as bad as the IMDb score would suggest. I almost did not watch this film purely because the score was so bad. It has helped me to re-evaluate what I accept as a decent score on IMDb.

In the past, I used to avoid any films that scored less than 5.0 on IMDb. However, I have watched a few films under 5.0 (including The Hybrid) that are ridiculously under-rated.

No, The Hybrid is not have a spectacularly original plot, but the plot is engaging nonetheless and the acting is solid and effects are good.

In general, it is an entertaining film. There is no need to drop it to such a low rating, I have seen so much worse at a higher rating.

The ridiculously low rating of this film has made me distrustful of IMDb's user rating system. Although, to be fair, anything I've seen under a 4.5 has genuinely been awful.

My advice would be (if you're reading this) is to go check the numerous critic opinions before accepting user opinions, since, in my experience, they seem to be more objective (and true).

This is a good film with good acting, decent (if not entirely original) plot and believable effects.

I've given it a 10 purely because I believe other have under-rated it excessively. I feel I should try to bring the bar up. My real feelings are that it's a 6.

Save yourself the bother and avoid
15 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A very amateur film.

The main characters are very unattractive and actually quite odd-looking.

I found the main character very off-putting. He has a very strange appearance which I found somewhat unsettling (and not in a good way). He's also overly dramatic at times, a particular example is when four of the characters are sitting on a kitchen floor and the main character is supposedly consoling a girl who has lost her father and does it so dramatically that it actually appears as though he attacks her.

At one point I genuinely wondered if this was some kind of project done by a high school drama club, utilizing the found-footage genre to cover for their lack of budget.

Very confusing and just gave me a feeling of revulsion.
