Truth and Lies: Waco (2018 TV Movie)

IMDb Description Couldn't Be More Accurate
12 May 2020
At the time of this review, the short IMDb description for "Truth and Lies: WACO" said all that can really be said in sincerity and honesty about it:

"Mainstream media attempting to justify the government murdering innocent American civilians for no reason by peddling lies."

There's nothing I can really add to that description. It's short and to the point, and it couldn't be more accurate.

When Movies Could Just Be Fun
2 July 2019
Completely implausible yet absolutely entertaining.

There are so many things wrong with Con Air that's there's no point even trying to pick it apart. Almost every scene has something ridiculously stretching possibility, or just plain impossible in reality. Nonetheless, Con Air entertains and does it extremely well.

Gosh, remember when movies weren't preachy and imposing? Remember when they were just fun to watch?

Con Air is a blast to watch!

Surprisingly Awesome
20 June 2019
The soul of a killer named Tabei dies then is summoned back from the Bardo (an intermediate place between life and rebirth in Tibetan Buddhism) by monks and given a mission to deliver a sacred object to an unknown destination. During the journey to deliver the object, Tabei is being tracked as the target for a revenge killing in a generational familial feud that preceded his birth. Along way, many interesting characters are introduced into the story, including a young woman named Chung, a orphaned mute boy whom is given the name "Pu," an assortment of Tibetan cowboys some of whom are villians intent upon taking custody the sacred object for their boss "by any means" and another whose intentions remain mysterious.

Convincing Arguments
11 April 2019
No one presents like Penn & Teller. Today's cheerleaders have certainly rose above vocal cheers and shaking pom-poms, probably even more so today than when this episode aired in 2010. Watch season 8 episode 9 Cheerleaders and decide for yourself if cheerleaders are athletes. The arguments presented are very persuasive.

Can't Not Appreciate James Garner
31 March 2019
Full disclosure: One of the stars of this movie was a classmate, we attended grade school together. Fire In The Sky always leaves me unsure whether I enjoyed the movie, or just enjoy seeing some fellas working a forestry contract back home in Arizona who in the movie are about the same age we were during the mid-1970s doing the same kind of forestry contract work we were in the same forests. None of us were sucked into "flying saucers," but I do recall us seeing unexplained lights in the sky during the pre-dawn/post-dusk rides back and forth to the thinning/slashing units. Not saying there are, or aren't UFO abductions, however it's frivolous to believe in what isn't known with certainty. That and seeing someone you know well acting in a movie has a way of lessening the feeling that what you are watching may be real. Four stars for the great nostalgia, plus an additional three for James Garner. All things considered, Fire In The Sky is still a good enough movie to watch more than once.

Never A Dull Moment
28 March 2019
This movie doesn't waste any time on slow drawn out scenes, right from the start it gets going and doesn't stop. Perfect for today's short attention spans. A really great time killer. Found myself drawn in right from the beginning. Even though it was a bit difficult to understand just exactly what was going on through the early parts of the film, there was always so much going on it wasn't boring and it all gelled perfectly by the ending. Great little movie. Actually going to remember this one and even recommend it to my friends.

Abduction (I) (2011)

Writer(s) Should Be Embarrassed
27 March 2019
Must begin by disclosing that I have no idea who Taylor Lautner is, but it appears this movie was for whatever reason tailored for him to star in. Perhaps if Abducted had been intended to be a comedy, and stuck with that genre, I could have rated it more highly. About a quarter of the way through, right after the boring beginning, it did have me laughing a lot. Also, I'm not sure if it's ethical to use a script for a movie that must have been lifted from a committed mental patient's delusional ramblings. Very difficult to take this movie seriously it's so full of holes.

A Simple Plan (1998)

A Story Of The Ages
14 March 2019
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!" --Sir Walter Scott, 1808 The story of a "simple," but immoral, or unethical, "plan" that spins out of control has probably been told for just about as long as stories have been being told. Really great dynamics between Hank (played by Bill Paxton) and Jacob (Billy Bob Thornton). Lots going on there; big brother/little brother; am I my brother's keeper; childlike innocence vs innocence lost. There's also a lot of bigger picture issues touched upon from various perspectives that should get many watchers thinking. Not a fun movie, but a very good movie. A couple great performances. Big thumbs up for this one.

Wow, What a Wonderful Movie!
8 March 2019
Hooked within the first few minutes. After that just didn't want to end. The whole thing is a masterpiece, everything from the sets, to characters, to storyline, acting, everything. Sorry I'm not much of a typical reviewer; I usually just rate movies and only so I can go back and find ones I really liked for when other people want me to pick something to watch. This one was just so good it's worth recommending.

The first 40 minutes or so, basically the setup, is like something out of vintage Mad magazine. Then the movie almost seamlessly transitions into a romantic comedy that contrasts the comparatively "innocent" early baby boomer period with the cynical "anything goes" of late 1990s. As far as movies go, it's really a bit of genius.

A really wonderful movie. Haven't enjoyed a couple of hours, or been left feeling this good in ages.

Started Out Great Then Fizzled
7 March 2019
If the remaining 60 minutes of this movie was as good as the first 30 minutes it could've be really great and I'd likely be rating it 10 stars instead of 5.

The description stated the movie was set in the 1970s, but maybe it should have said it watches like a 1970s movie. Seemed to be common theme for '70s movies to start out going somewhere only to lose direction and fizzle part way through.

Could have been awesome, started out great, then when to pot.

Bushwhacked (1995)

90 Minutes of Fun
6 March 2019
Once again a movie I wasn't really expecting to hold my attention for an hour and half wildly exceeded my initial expectations.

There was nothing too serious about any part of the movie, unless it was such for comedic effect. Pretty much the entire Bushwhacked cast played easily likeable characters.

Lot's of great outdoor scenery, skillful use of light and camera angles. Good sound; hearing the character's lines was never a struggle. All in all, it made for a really great fun experience.

If you're looking for something serious and dramatic to watch, Bushwhacked will probably leave you disappointed. As a family safe, completely unserious film that may even have a bit of a moral to the story, you may enjoy it as much as I did.

Good movie.

"Anti-War" Film?
28 February 2019
Only leaving this review, because I'm not sure I watched the same movie as the other reviewers. This film is hardly what could be considered "anti-war," it's more of an examination of the insane complexities war. Tangerines attempts to show war is what happens when reason breaks down between different parties who believe they own control of the same land. It also attempts to demonstrate how difficult it is to make peace once the bullets start flying, regardless of how much anyone tries. Great film. "Anti-War" Not so much. More of a real-life for many of the world's real people just isn't rainbows and hearts all the time.

Wildly Exceeded My Expectations
16 February 2019
Was bored so decided to check "False Flag" out not expecting a subtitled series to be interesting enough to hold my attention for more than a few minutes. Couldn't have been more wrong. Upon watching the opening scenes, I immediately remembered reading about a very similar real-life scandal that made the news back in 2010 in which Israeli immigration officials allegedly illegally copied a number of British passports that were subsequently misused in the assassination a high ranking member of Hamas. Although the movie had little to do with the actual events, it kept me watching for long enough to get hooked to the point that by the conclusion of the first episode I couldn't stop watching. Well paced with few dull moments, interesting characters and good acting. No shortage of intrigue and treachery. Lot's of espionage, crime, action and drama.

Found The Many Mistakes Amusing
23 December 2018
There's so many mistakes involving continuity in this film that by early on during the scenes where Mildred meets Amanda for the first time, but already knows exactly who she is, or when Mildred is serving whiskey shots to Amanda then puts the cap on the bottle and sets it down with cap magically off the bottle again, it was clear that simply watching for all the ridiculous basic filmmaking screw-ups was going to be immensely more entertaining than attempting to watch this movie as a serious work could ever be.

Not an A Grade Film
7 December 2018
Certainly not a top notch high dollar production, so the bad reviews by some are understandable. On the other hand, there's plenty to like about it, such as the use of more period correct props and wardrobe than usually seen in most Westerns. If only the more highly rated films could adopt what's good about Living By The Gun, but keep the more polished look and feel of those better rated films, we may finally see the perfect Western. Full disclosure: To the best of my knowledge, I am not "friends" with, nor a "relative" of anyone appearing in, or involved in making, this film.
