The writers threw in Handel's Messiah as their big concert in NYC. Why choose that over used chorale piece? So many other great choral works to show off a boy who can hit a high D. Who needs a trickster's high note to demonstrate great musical talent?
And stupidly the script claims no solo parts in Messiah! There are many in that oratorio.
And choosing that famous piece because you wouldn't trust the audience to appreciate something they haven't heard many times.
How about Faure's Requiem or an even more modern composers, like John Tavener or John Rutter?
This film played down to the audience and didn't have the courage and good sense to take them up.
