The Originals: When the Saints Go Marching In (2018)
Confused
If Elijah is willing to die, then why not transfer the darkness to him and let him end it ? Hope would still have her father, Elijah redeems himself for Hayley's death, gets to have his dance with her and all is good. The ending felt really rushed in my opinion and doesn't make much sense.
I'd like to add that the last two seasons were weaker in terms of quality than the first three. I don't know if it has to do with the 13 episode format or not but the feeling that I get is that they wanted to wrap it up quickly and it didn't work in their favor. For the record, I still think the last two seasons are worth watching but I can't help but feel like I needed more from them.
Nevertheless, I am glad to have watched The Originals.
The Originals: Fire with Fire (2015)
Fire with Fire
This episode was action packed and sets up the season 2 finale well. Dialogue was strong as always and Klaus's character never ceases to amaze.
His intentions were somewhat predictable because we have grown to learn a lot about his character so I knew he had a plan, which isn't a bad thing I might add. However, did he really have to let Gia burn in front of his brother for him to prove his allegiance to Dahlia ? I feel like it was unnecessary. Unless it was a trick, I can't see how he would be forgiven for this. All in all, I felt like it was just there for some shock value.
Either way, I'm interested to see how this season ends.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Could have been more
This episode will definitely redefine what can be done on television, you can see how much effort went into making this possible and I appreciate it. It doesn't get any bigger than this in terms of spectacle. But there is one big problem, the narrative.
This is the conclusion of almost 8 seasons of setup. The white walkers appear in the very first scene of the show, but then disappear for a long time, giving the viewer the sense of upcoming danger that the characters are unaware of. And this sense of danger has escalated with us for 8 seasons. For the walkers to be defeated this way, I feel disappointed. They weren't this threat I anticipated.
I do not mind the outcome of the battle, it's just the execution of it that feels wrong. We were led to believe that the white walkers are in a way, intelligent. Yet, in this episode they did nothing. All of the white walkers, except the night king, did absolutely nothing. And even the Night King's ambition is very disappointing. I expected more than just "Destruction of the world". But it turned out to be just that. They are just mindless zombies that destroy everything in their path. It's not much different than the walking dead at this point. With all this lore surrounding white walkers, I expected a better ambition. To add to this, we learned nothing about the white walkers in this. In Hardhome, we learned that the Night King can raise the dead. In Beyond the Wall, we learned that the night king has some greenseeing abilities and a real plan that he waited to execute for so long. In this episode, we learn nothing. I also would have liked some variety in the white walkers's army. All we had is wights attacking humans, and a single Giant scene. We saw way more giants when the Night King broke the wall. The way they all died was very cheesy aswell.
Also, the battle had very few surprises, there was no real plan except for holding off the white walkers. I might be a bit picky, but I wanted to see some of the wit Tyrion had in the battle of blackwater, using wildfire to destroy Stannis's fleet. Seems like the talk he had with Bran led to nothing. Bran was just as useless as the white walkers. The battle lacked some wit and didn't take a lot of risks.
The outcome of it is disappoiting, I feel like the whole goal of this episode was to get rid of the white walkers and focus on Cersei and the Iron Throne. All this build up for the white walkers led to a very disappointing result. They were not the threat we thought they were, just an obstacle for our characters. Very few big characters die. I do feel generous giving this an 8/10 (which is the lowest I have given for any GOT episode). And mind you, the only reason it is that high is because I recognize the work that went behind this episode, the result plot wise is not satisfying in any way. I was expecting a lot more from this, I feel betrayed as a fan.
Venom (2018)
Hesitant ? Go watch it.
The critics made it way worse than it actually is. It is a solid action movie that will give you some scares and some laughs.
It has some flaws. Some actions scenes could be a lot better, an R rating would also have helped. Some characters lack depth. But I think the postitives from the movie like the humor from time to time, or the interactions between Eddie and Venom and all other minor characters outweigh the flaws easily.
Go watch it with some friends and you will have a blast ! Make sure to stay around after the credits ...
Game of Thrones: The Dragon and the Wolf (2017)
One of the best
This episode was excellent. Every scene was done brilliantly. Last episode might not have been as good as we wanted, but at least it sets up this episode brilliantly.
Having all characters unite at the dragonpit was exceptional. We have had long awaited conversations between our favourite characters that were satisfying.
I think Tyrion had all his best scenes of the season in his episode. Truly masterful acting by Peter Dinklage. Everybody acted perfectly but I shined the light on Tyrion because he finally gets scenes he deserves. He was rather wasted for the last couple of seasons.
The winterfell plot line finally payed off, with the stark sisters getting rid of the snake that Baelish was.
I think we all feared for Jaime and thought it was his end when Cersei gave the nod to the mountain. My heart stopped for a second. GREAT SCENE. And finally Jaime leaves !
Bran and Sam meet and reveal Jon's true identity. Although not as powerful as last season's reveal, it was still amazing.
Dany and Jon's romance is so well done. We don't know what to cheer for as we always wanted to see them together, but at the same time, it is incest. Game of Thrones always tends to put us in these difficult situations.
And to finish it off, The Wall crumbling down as the army of the dead marches south ! A long awaited moment ! The Night King and his dragon are no joke. THE GREAT WAR IS HERE !
Truly one of the best episodes of the series. Definitely in the top 5 greatest episodes of GOT for me.
Alien³ (1992)
Alien 3
" 3 times the suspense, 3 times the danger, 3 times the terror ". Seriously David Fincher ? Seriously ? First of all, that is the worst tag line I ever saw. Second of all, it's the biggest lie I ever saw.
After developing Hicks and Newt in Aliens (1986) and making them really likable characters, and having Ripley nearly killing herself to save their lives ... Fincher decided to kill both of them in the stupidest way right at the start ! REALLY ?? I understand he didn't want to use them but don't KILL THEM. They were amazing characters and could have been used for future movies. That alone made me really mad at the start of the movie. Lack of imagination by Fincher.
Ripley and Clemens (Charles Dance) were the only likable characters in the movie. Yet Ripley can't be killed by the Alien since she holds the queen in her chest and Clemens dies in the stupidest way, his death had no significance whatsoever, I don't know what Fincher was thinking by killing him. This resulted in the audience having no interest at all in the characters, at least for me, I didn't care if anyone died in this movie except for the two characters I mentioned.
I also want to add that I'm all in for CGI when done right. For example, in King Kong (2005) or Jurassic World (2015), it looked amazing (just a few good examples). It allows to enhance the creature's movement and it's speed (you can't really move an animatronic fast). When done right, it looks very very good. But thing is, in 1992, CGI wasn't really optimized and Fincher still decided to overuse it making the Alien seem so fake.
The Prison setting is also something I hated, it just didn't seem to fit with the Alien vibe. The atmosphere in the first 2 movies was way better.
All and all, it was a terrible movie. Despite the ratings I was expecting something really good (because IMDb members are usually very harsh towards some sequels). Turns out it was really an abomination. 3/10 and that's because I am generous.
Incarnate (2016)
Same old ending
What's up with film directors thinking it would be a great idea to make a bad ending ? It's like every B horror movie ever, the ending is stupid and ruins it all. I've seen this in various films like " Life " or " Friend request ", those plot twists are so predictable. Would be the perfect ending if he just died to save the boy, and it ends here. But NO, they need to make that demon live on, the same one who killed his family ... It's so depressing.
If not for the cliché and stupid ending I would have given it a 7. The idea was good, but they just ruined it.
Don't Breathe (2016)
Very tense and thrilling
I went ahead and watched " Don't Breathe " with my friends today at the cinemas, we were all satisfied with the outcome.
This movie really excels at being thrilling, I was gripped during the whole 1h and 30 mins. I felt like the length of the movie was on point, a little longer would have either killed the intensity or maybe would have been too tense for a long period of time.
The acting was very good, the set pieces were well made. What I found to be really good is that some scenes and twists were really unexpected ( I don't want to spoil it ) but if you do see the movie, which I highly recommend, you would understand.
The ending also offers space for a sequel, which I hope they do not ruin ( if it happens ).
Go check out the movie, I personally found it to be very good and somewhat original. Final Verdict : 9/10
Jurassic World (2015)
Jurassic World
Jurassic World isn't a movie with a lot of depth into it, before watching it you should consider it as a typical summer blockbuster and not a psychological film with a deep moral behind it. That being said, Jurassic World will deliver a two hours thrill ride.
Jurassic World is a luxury resort or a theme park containing dinosaurs in Isla Nublar. The action takes place 22 years after the incident that happened in the original movie ( Jurassic Park ). The owner is Simon Masrani and his goal was to complete John Hammond's dream ( create a fully functioning dinosaur theme park ). And he did, but people started to see dinosaurs as something that is completely normal with time, and so InGen decided to create a new attraction ( bigger, louder, more teeth ). The beast was made and managed to escape its cage later by using its incredible intelligence. Turns out it was all planned out by Vic Hoskins and Dr.Wu and the idea behind it was to test dinosaur as military units.
The characters in the movie are not really likable at first but by the end of the movie you'll have some kind of affection towards them. It is probably due to the lack of character development, even though Owen Grady is a really interesting one. The acting was good, not great but good. It was acceptable and didn't really affect the enjoyment you get out of this movie. Now visual effects were great, I hear a lot of people have been complaining about the CGI but I found it to be flawless and barely could find the difference between it and animatronics.
To summarize what I've just said, this movie is totally worth it, at least for dinosaur fans and really brings back awesome memories. Watching it for the first time in theaters was an unforgettable experience ! Don't let some of the negative reviews bring you down, give it a try ! Final verdict : A solid 9/10
