Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
The "Fans" are Wrong. Incredible Experience!
The "Fans":
I would first like to state that you should skip any reviews that begin with "as a HUGE Star Wars Fan..." These people are the ones who limit Star Wars to the original trilogy and blast anything that is different (or even when its the same: TFA) They take pride in being fans, and feel cheated whenever others enjoy something in the same universe under a different name. For some reason they believe that withing a whole galaxy in a different universe, only 3 movies can shed light on its true form, when in reality Star Wars is a living thing now. It grows, evolves, changes. It is like our own world, but a hell of a lot cooler.
My Experience:
Last night, I dropped $60 for me and my friends to go and see TLJ. I had been so hyped up for months to see this film, and I have been a fan of Star Wars since the original trilogy. When we all left the cinema we all sat down at a Perkins with rapid heartbeats as we tried to discuss all our favorite moments and why we loved it. We spent about 2 hours just drooling over the spectacle of TLJ.
Why You Should See and Enjoy it:
First reason to see it: it is Star Wars. Secondly, life for many of us is a mundane sequence of similar events. Everyday we get up, go to work, come home, relax for a couple hours, go to bed, repeat. We do this day after day with no real end goal that would have any real purpose. As humans, we have no real point in existing. This fact leads many of us to be downtrodden and depressed going on day after day with life. HOWEVER, when you go into TLJ or any Star Wars movie, you forget about all that. As soon as the opening scroll comes on you are transported into a whole new world. Work, school, money, stress are no longer bombarding you. You are transported to a magical land where wacky creatures, heroes, villains, spaceships, lasers, lightsabers, and droids are all the norm. TLJ does an incredible job putting you into the universe and wowing you about how incredible it is.
ON ITS OWN:
this movie would get a 9.9/10 from me. No other times can I go into a cinema and be wowed like this. The effects were prestine. The rare but enough fighting sequences were dazzling. The creatures were as whimsical and wonderful as ever. Even the porgs being obvious advertisement were amazing. They were so adorable and funny I did not mind. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep anyone entertained and enthralled. There were so many satisfying, funny, and interesting moments. A great twist on the franchise where they can branch out and try out new things.
AS A STAR WARS MOVIE:
I would give it an 8/10 just because the plot and character development does not stand to the OT (original trilogy.) However, the universe felt so right. I felt like I was there. I felt sorrow and redemption for Luke. Overall great movie that everybody should see.
PROS:
Astonishing visuals and set pieces/cinematography
Great Cast
Funny Moments
Engaging primary as well as entertaining and interesting secondary characters
Wonderful Soundtrack
Takes away the stress of real life for 2.5 hours
Very satisfying moments of triumph
Twists and turns to keep the franchise fresh
True character development
Mind bendingly Entertaining
CONS:
Some unanswered questions
Minor plot holes
Some moments fall flat
Obvious advertisement of porgs
No Han Solo :(
CONCLUSION:
This is an amazing way to once again re-enter the galazy far far away, and be wowed and dazzled in perfect blockbuster cinema. Do not be afraid to love a movie pandered by people who claim to be fans since they hate everything that is not episode 4,5,6. It is a great film that is so unique you can not find something like it anywhere else.
Sausage Party (2016)
Bad Movie- the trailer is as good as it gets
First of all, I am not some new parent complaining about how inappropriate it is. I am a young adult, which is their target audience. To be honest if you muted this movie 90% of it would PG. The only reason it was R was due to swearing and a graphic animated sex scene that could easily be taken out without affecting the plot. The jokes were cliché and predictable, which was a huge let down for an adult film supposedly filled with good humor. I have no problem with swearing as long as it has a purpose, this movie had no purpose for swearing. It was not used for humor, dramatic effect, or a sense of power. The swearing felt more like a small child constantly over using the same word until it just makes them seem dumb and obnoxious. The plot was the exact same thing as the trailer. If you watch the trailer you have seen the plot and the only funny moments. It felt to me like it would have been a good child's movie, but it was incredibly redundant and boring as an adult film.
Inception (2010)
Thought Provoking, Great Action
Inception is one of the most popular movies out there, and its all for good reason. The whole experience of watching the movie gets your brain racing. Suddenly you start getting all these ideas, and you crave to be a part of the team going through people's brains. Tom Hardy and Leo do a great job in this movie as they always do. Watching in HD with the sound blaring causes you to fall into the movie as if you were in a dream. It is not only just filled with a ton of brain poking fun, but very well executed action, and a very clear plot. Altogether one of the top ten movies I have ever seen. The best part is once the movie is over and you start questioning your own reality. You start to wonder if you are in a dream. Then, you start wondering if the technology will ever exist, so you hop on google and start looking. Soon, you find out someday people may be able to do it, then you are right back where you started, wondering maybe this technology exists today and people are using. Maybe their using it on you right now and you would never know until someone kicks you into a bucket of water.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Pretty Decent Film For Another MCU Force Feed Garbage
The MCU is known for selling all of it original and best characters, and left selling to the masses whatever they can scrape up and shove down viewers windpipes. However, this movie was not as awful compared to some of Marvel's movie flops. It had some good one liners and some funny quotes here and there. It was a good setup for infinity wars. The characters were mildly developed and have a lot of room for improvement. The mystery of some of the characters left it open for a sequel. The plot is a little iffy with a lot of plot holes, but altogether it is a good film for almost all audiences. This has a plethora of action scenes and jokes. Chris Pratt really brings the film together. He is the star of the movie and brings a lot of smiles to everyone.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Fantastic Movie, Great Plot, Great Actors
To start off, I would highly recommend this to any viewers 16 and older who are mature enough to understand the beauty of the film. This Oscar award winning film so full of emotion you feel as if you are right in the story feeling what Will feels. When Will proves the equation on the board, the momentum begins to pick up. Soon after proving he is a genius, he shows that he is also a brute, and a lover. He can take on hooligans as well as keep a girlfriend. The movie shows how Will and Mr Lambeau begin to connect through their mathematical triumph, but the professors spot in the boys heart quickly fades as he meets a therapist he cannot best. Robin Williams plays Sean Maguire, a run down psychologist working at a community college. He teaches Will many lessons through the pain of his wife's death. He explains how his brain does not allow him to comprehend true emotional responses in situation, he knows them, but does not feel them. The movie is really all about the transformation of this Albert Einstein boy played by Matt Damon from a bum to a functioning member of society. The actors play their roles perfectly and are made for these roles. This movie allows us to see parts of ourselves reflected in Will, and almost brings you to tears when Will breaks down. Flawless movie except for all the cursing to make it R seemed very unnecessary and out of context, otherwise beautiful execution.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
One of the best movies out there, If you have not seen it, Go on Netflix and watch it
This movie is by far one of the greatest compositions out there. It constantly engages you without having gun fights or explosions. It intellectually engages you. It invites you into a whole new world, into the minds of convicts. It all ties in perfectly with its ending and seeing corruption being overthrown and justice winning. It makes you root for the bad guys for once. Overall it should be on everyone's top ten lists and everyone should watch it. Also, the casting in the movie is phenomenal. Morgan Freeman is perfectly cast for someone who has been in prison for ages, he perfectly fits the role of the old dog. Tim Robbins did not receive enough credit for this film. He seamlessly blends into character from an actor. He is cool under pressure, intelligent, and a little bit scary. This movie is probably going to be superior to almost all other films for many years. It is a timeless classic that almost brings you to tears.
12 Days of Terror (2004)
Not the best movie, not the best production.
At the beginning of the film you meet the undeveloped main character. He is a lifeguard who tries to warn everyone that the shark is actually real and it will kill everyone. However, no one bats an eyelash and keep on swimming until more people keep dying. The story itself is not that bad, but the telling of it was sub par to say at the least. The acting was B grade for sure. Also, the shark seemed to only ever go after the legs and no other injuries besides mutilation of the legs happened. Seriously, like 10 people got their legs ripped off but no one made it out with a missing arm or bite in the stomach. The sharks animation resembled Jaws, except with a smaller budget. For 2004, it did not reach any quality worth praising. Rubber sharks and poorly done CGI shots make the movie a cringing experience for a good 10 minutes.
