Chivalry (2022)
Great cast Terrible script
What always amazes me with total duds like Chivalry is that "did no one realise it just isn't funny" during the filming?
Total dross. Completely unfunny. Clever in places. Bu utterly dire.
The Good Liar (2019)
Mirrens worst ever film
What utter tripe. Badly written. Totally unbelievable from start to finish.
Rebecca (2020)
Excellent remake
I normally dislike remakes of successful films. Why do they never remake a stinker?
But I loved this colour remake of Hitchcocks black and white 1940 Adaptation of the Daphne du Maurier novel.
Those moaning about it being less suspenseful are not factoring in the fact that they know the twist.
The Water Diviner (2014)
Excellent. Moving story
An excellent fictional narrative wrapped around the essence of a true story. Something of an Australian Saving Private Ryan
Gripping and well acted. Russel Crowe directs for the first time to great credit. A story that transcends mere sovereignty You don't have to be Turkish or Australian Its anti war.
The Singapore Grip (2020)
Expensively filmed rubbish
At what point does everyone realise that this is just expensively filmed crap.
The trivialisation of the fall of Singapore is appalling. But not as appalling as the acting
Velvet Goldmine (1998)
Easily the worst film I have ever seen
Derivative poorly acted terrible soundtrack appalling script. Where does one start? Mind numbingly bad. I tried watching on x30 fast forward. It got marginally better. But then even worse. How does rubbish like this get financed?
Van der Valk (2020)
Marc Warren is dreadful
I had the pleasure of knowing the late great Barry Foster. He hated V de V But enjoyed the pay checks. The series destroyed the career of an actor who was honoured to be cast in Hitchcocks last truly memorable picture, Frenzy. If you dismiss the bad reviews from those uncomfortable with all the English actors (as these poor people have obviously never seen the original) you can then concentrate on just why this re boot is so bad. Its quite simple. Marc Warren is mis cast. And the rest of the juvenile cast are simply unbelievable
The 2 hour running time for each episode is also a problem. The writing is sloppy. The characters as I have said are unbelievable. One black one white one gay one dog. Is the dog the writers way of introducing a family for VdeV? Who are missing in this reboot. But who were an important element in both the books and the original Barry Foster series.
I cannot see series 2 being commissioned
The Nest (2020)
Started well finished poorly
As with so many TV dramas these days it starts well. But ends poorly Too many flaws in the plot. If the implanted eggs were from another woman. Why didn't they sue the hospital? And sue the Embryo storage facility?
With £50,000 and another £20,000 (for the DNA test). Why did Kia hang around?
Why did she have TWO probation officers?
Unbelievable characters.
Dans Glasgow Clydeside apartment is the real star of the mini series
The Invention of Lying (2009)
Unfunny. From start to finish
This is what happens when you allow a one trick pony stand up comedian to both write and direct with a bottomless budget. No fun
Ronin (1998)
Reboots the classic car chase
Living in Nice it was wonderful to see the car chase scene through the old Town.
De Niro is great. A young Sean Bean is given an acting class by his American counterpart.
I have watched this film 4 or 5 times. What was in the case? We shall never know. But from the way the silver case is thrown around. It was certainly empty!
Giri/Haji (2019)
First 4 episodes outstanding
The first 4 episodes directed by Julian Farino were quite brilliant in every respect. But there was a noticeable change for the following 4 episodes. Not sure why the change of director. But almost seemed as if writer changed for final 4 episodes. Storyline was bold with multiple plots. One or 2 characters over written. Others almost superfluous to the story. Could have been 10. Abbot didn't convince as the Uk gangster. But otherwise some fine performances
