What a time capsule. Having been (thankfully) too young to experience this "groovy" period when filmed, I found it both hilarious and selfishly indulgent on this my very first and only viewing (so far)!
It was difficult for me to put myself in Bob and Carol's mindset after they attended the couple's therapy weekend. One of those "I guess you really had to be there" moments, literally in that time and place.
BUT, there is no mistaking the charm of the foursome, Robert Culp ("Bob") being the least attractive to me. However, I adored him in his much later years as Debra's dad in "Everybody Loves Raymond." Otherwise, his appeal to me as an actor has been fairly neutral.
BUT, Elliott (Ted), Dyan (Alice) and Natalie (Carol) were absolutely adorable, especially the first two. Alice's therapy session with her analyst (who I found creepy) was fun to watch how it played out.
And Elliott, who I have missed in recent years, and who at one time was Babs Streisand's spouse(!!!), was charmingly prudish and naive in his role as Dyan's hubby. Man, did he ever have a hairy body though! Haha!
I'm glad I caught this movie after all these years! I liked how it ended and the Jackie DeShannon song that closed the movie took me back to a fun (and definitely nostalgic) time of my life.
Rest in peace, Natalie and Robert. God bless!
