So good! ... Is what I would have said if I hadn't watched the last 20 minutes
26 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is fantastic. The story is great. It's thrilling and entertaining. Quite suspenseful. But in the last act, stupidity and thriller tropes take over.

Jules has the Jeep. She is home free. She may have difficulty proving Jackie committed the crimes she did, but she'd have a better chance doing so if she didn't stab a tranquilized woman to death, which she fully intended to do. Then when she saw Jackie wasn't where she left her, she still didn't get the hell out of Dodge. She went for a showdown.

I loved Jules as a character until that point. She was strong, yet vulnerable. I truly felt her trying to hate the woman she loves in light of what happened to her. It's a hard pill to swallow. But when she decided to go Rambo rather than run, all sympathy went out the window.

How do you maintain masculinity in a house full of women?
27 July 2018
When your house is full of women, remembering you're a man and how to be masculine can be difficult. Thank goodness this show exists to help us all!

Seriously though, being a man in a world full of women is not difficult. Treat others with respect. Enjoy your hobbies. Live your life. Do what you like to do as long as it doesn't harm others. But here's the most important part: don't let your masculinity get so fragile that a terrible sitcom, a misogynist website, ignorant people, or anything else defines masculinity for you.

Be a man. Let being a man, or living your life as a man, be enough. It's not long division. It's easy, and no one can take it from you unless you let them.

If only O'Loughlin died in a fire
14 July 2018
So the show was originally built on Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan's characters. That was what drew the execs to the show. What kept the audience was Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.

When the two Asian actors left due to salaray discrepancies, O'LOUGHLIN said something to the effect of "we've got the actors who want to be here." He said that, despite the Asian actors carrying the show while he was in rehab. Way to support your castmates. He's nothing but another generic Hollywood pretty boy. This is his swan song. Whether Hawaii 50 lasts another season or 100, he's done when it's over.

Oh, and this episode was just BAD. Did O'Loughlin demand the scene where he took off his tactical vest, took off his short-sleeve shirt, put on another short-sleeve shirt and put his tactical vest back on? Because I don't think his shirtless chest is what brought anyone to the show. Ever.

Overuse of satire
11 July 2018
We needed about 1/10 of Lena Dunham's role, although that's nothing against the actress. The storyline was an abrupt stop after the wonderful momentum of the previous episodes. Her story was boring, and would have been much effective had it been condensed.
