Some of the worst action of the franchize
23 March 2023
This is a tough one. Not only to review, but also to watch. Never before have I seen a movie where the opponents are so obviously taking turns attacking. There are countless scenes in this movie where John Wick is fighting multiple opponents and every one except the one he is currently fighting is dancing around awkwardly in the background until its their turn to attack. It's infuriating. And it happens constantly throughout the movie.

Now, not everything about the action is bad. Some of the fight scenes are awesome, mostly the ones where he is fighting someone one on one.

The camera work, scenery, set design are all beautiful. Even the story of this installment is better than what we had previously. The movie also introduces a couple of fantastic new characters and the conclusion is quite satisfying.

All that to be completely underminded by the truly atrocious fight choreographies throughout the movie. They made this an absolute chore to watch at times.

Devs: Episode #1.8 (2020)
Season 1, Episode 8
5/10
Unbelievably unsatisfying
18 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a short show, so it doesn't hurt as much as with other shows, but this ending was really extraordinarily unsatisfying. Really I feel like it didn't even make any sense.

Firstly, it was very, very predictable that Lily would chose not to do what the simulation predicted her to do, and therefore this when she throws the gun out moment felt really superficial. But if we follow the logic of the show, Forest and Katie both knew that what was shown in the simulation might not actually happen because after the machine was changed to follow Lyndon's principle it would only be able to show A VERSION of the past/future, not THE definitive version. I'm not sure why they completely ignored that entire thing, because in the end that entire subplot with Lyndon didn't really amount to anything and they could've started at a finished many-worlds system and it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

I'm also unsure as to why the prediction ended at the moment of Lily's death, and not when she made her choice or why it even changed at all, because again, following the many-world theory anything that can happen, will happen, so obviously Lily making that choice was just another possibility and the machine shouldn't have any problems predicting oast that point, it made no sense.

Lastly, the possibility of "inserting" a person into the simulation came completely out of left field and wasn't previously hinted at in any way. I can see how this would work if the machine focused on a specific version of the world, but they also made it look like the machine was running a many-worlds simulation, which doesn't really make sense both from a technical point of view as well as story point of view. They go out of their way to tell us that many-worlds exist, so why would they want to be in the simulation? They are aware that within these many worlds there exists a version where they live their happiest lives, so what's the point of "resurrection"?

Overall a very lacklustre finale that leaves more questions open than it answers. The show up until this episode was pretty good, but now I'd give it a solid 7/10 overall.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021–2024)
8/10
Night and day compared to Rebels.
22 November 2022
How this show is rated lower than rebels is one of the great mysteries of the universe to me.

Like rebels, this show also has a few "filler" episodes, but unlike Rebels, the filler episodws were actually well done and have an interesting story that is mature, not stupid, and connects the dots in the greater Star Wars universe.

The main story is also wayyy better written than that of rebels. The characters have interesting personalities and are not so utterly one-dimensional. The underlying conflict and the aftermath of order 66 is an interesting time in this universe and through the eyes of these 5 (6) misfits we get to experience it for the first time. There is originality in this show, something which Rebels truly lacked.

I expected to hate this because I didn't like the Bad Batch episodes in clone wars, but it turned out to be a very good show.

And of course I can't fail to mention that the animation is superb. One of the roughest things about Rebels was the animation, which was really hard to watch at times, clearly targeted at young kids. This is great. Especially environmental shots are mindblowingly good looking.

Really looking forward to season 2.

Star Wars: Rebels (2014–2018)

A chore
19 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've been catching up on animated Star Wars over the past couple of weeks. Clone Wars made me fall in love with the Ahsoka Tano character, so naturally, I had to also check out Rebels (yeah, I knew she wasn't in it much).

This show is truly a chore to watch. The dialogue is absolutely horrendous and cringeworthy, absolutely no person would ever speak like these characters do. There is SO much expositional dialogue that is clearly aimed at 6 year olds. As a children's show, this may work extremely well, but unlike Clone Wars, this show doesn't mature. It stays the same until the end. Yes, the fibal arc is better than most of what's before, but it still suffer's from the same problems.

90% of this show are filler episodes, with the same plot rehashed in a different disguise. "Go on some mission, escape barely because the empire is stupid, repeat". It's utterly boring and most episodes are completely irrelevant and easily skippable.

I will say the there are about 5 episodes that are truly good, including Twilight of the Apprentice and the final 2-3 episodes, but overall it can't hold a candle to Clone Wars. The Siege of Mandalore arc is at least twice as good as any Rebels episode.

Let's get to the characters. The only main characters that ain't annoying are Hera and Kanan. And the only redeeming imperial character is Thrawn. The rest are completely forgettable. Sabine Wren has her moments in her mandalore arcs, but is otherwise not very interesting. Hera isn't either, but at least she's bearable. One character that's really not bearable is Ezra Bridger. I know, he is a kid. But he is annoying as hell. The dude is infuriating. Kanan is alright and has some good moments.

Truthfully, Thrawn, Vader and Maul save this show from being completely forgettable.

Don't get me started on how everyone is a spacecraft engineer and can repair anything in about 5 seconds. Chopper is absurdly OP as well. The ports the droids connect to are also ALWAYS so conveniently placed and you can do absolutely everything with them. The empire has no security measures for anything. Deleted data is gone forever, they never heard of backups. Sneaking into and escaping imperial ships is the easiest thing ever and happens every second episode. I could go on and on.

As a kids show, this is fine. But as Star Wars it's very hard to wrap my head around that this is supposed to be canon.

House of the Dragon: The Black Queen (2022)
Season 1, Episode 10
10/10
A fitting finale to an overall very strong season
24 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode - "The Black Queen" - concludes the prologue to what's so fittingly called "The Dance of Dragons" or "The Dying of the Dragons". A season full of drama, faimly feuds, political intrigue, dragons and ... timejumps. But now we have arrived at the pivotal moment in this story. From here on out, it's all put war. This episode co cludes this season in an elegant, shocking, sad majestic manner and gives co text to the beginning of the end of the Targaryen dynasty.

The characters may not act like we'd hope they would, Daemon once again shows that he is not the "converted" good guy like the last few episodes make it seem, in fact: He's still the same old, chaotically gray fucker that killed his wife.

The standout of this episode is easily Emma D'arcy as Rhaenyra. Their regal yet vulnerable look fits perfectly woth her character and she also does a fantastic job portraying pain and loss.

I cannot wait for next season, and it's 2 years awaay still :/

Extraordinary.
1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Comparing this season to what we've gotten recently with other high profile shows from Star Wars or Marvel, it's honestly so obvious that the quality differences - in terms of storytelling, writing and visual effects - are absolutely insane. The way The Duffer Brothers absolutely seemlessly manage to combine humor, hear, beautiful cinematography and a thrilling story with high stakes is extraordinary.

This season was the best season of Stranger Things by a huge margin. They actually managed to make the cliffhanger ending NOT feel annoying, because the story of season for was over, and absolutely immensly satisfying.

I cannot imagine what they plan on doing in this final season, by right now, out of all the running shows, season 5 of ST is my most anticipated project (not counting some that are yet to premiere).

What a wonderful time. You won't want to miss it.

I really don't understand the bad ratings
29 June 2022
This is honestly great... Unless any of the other Marvel D+ shows, this show actually takes it's time explore the characters and the lore. And I absolutely love the direction it's taking right now. The fight's are pretty good, the stakes are high, and yet it's still a very personal story. I think it's thrilling.

The first MCU project that manages to break free from the "Marvel formula"
4 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After WandaVision and Moon Knight, this is the first project that actually manages to break free from Marvel's resolution formula.

WandaVision was very different, but fell back into a classic Marvel final battle in the last episode. The same can be said about Moon Knight. And that's not a bad thing per se.

Now, aside from the fact that this movie has heavy horror elements and is the most violent MCU project to date, it actually has more of an emotional resolution than a physical one. And this might not work for everybody, and yes, it also didn't entirely work for me, but I absolutely appreciate what they were trying to do. In the end it felt just a little bit too fast for Wanda to come to her senses, but I thoroughly enjoyed this ending either way.

Overall this is certainly the most entertaining entry in the MCU since Avengers: Endgame. And while some choices in the movie were... questionable at best, it's really a very thrilling experience.

So what were those "questionable choices" that I am talking about?

Well, for starters, the introduction and instant elimination of the Illuminati. They were going for shock factor there, and it certainly shocked, but it's a cheap storytelling choice in the multiverse. They know that it doesn't matter if they die, because they can bring any of them back, absolutely no problem. So there really wasn't a reason to kill ALL of them.

And that leads me to the worst choice they made in this movie: killing off Charles Xavier. Professor X is supposedly one of the top 3 strongest mutants, certainly at this age and experience level. And we get it, Wanda is powerful, but it should in no way be that easy for her to defeat Professor X.

There are a few other minor missteps that I won't go into further here, but really I can only recommend to go watch this movie. It's the most exciting entry in the MCU in 3 years, in my opinion.

A world of endless possibilities
4 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It amazes me that people watch 10 hours of a show and still don't understand what it's about.

This show is about hope, freedom, and believing that there is a better life out there. Elsa represents all of this in this show. She's a dreamer. She doesn't see life as an obstacle; she sees the possibilities the world opens for her. Sure, she's also young and falls in love quickly, but these episodes do serve a purpose.

The journey is the story in this show. The journey into the unknown, a world of endless possibilities. A dream that is so far from us today. That's what makes watching this so electrifying. And it was beautiful.

Awesome episode, but...
26 January 2022
It should've been an episode of the Mandalorian. I'm sure it has it's place in the story of this show, but as a standalone this show doesn't work at all any more. And it's really telling that the best episode by a mile is an episode of the Mandalorian instead of Boba Fett.

10 for the episode, but didn't change anything about how I feel about The Book of Boba Fett.

22 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love what they are doing here. I'm not sure I've ever seen a show try a polyamourous relationship and I appreciate it very much what they are trying here. I don't know how it will end yet, but I think it's great. It's not really your classic love triangle if they all love each other, so if they do it right, it could work very well.

CODA (2021)

Almost flawless in its formulaic style
2 January 2022
Obviously this movie is one of many in the sense that this kind of story has been told countless times before. What sets this movie apart is there is very little wrong with it. It's hard to dislike any part of it. The writing is authentic, the story is believable. The main character is likable, relatable and we feel empathy. A wonderful story about family and adulthood.

I'm giving this movie an 8 simply because I can't go higher for this kind of a movie, but that doesn't mean that I don't think it's near perfect for what it is. For me 9 and 10 is simply reserved for movies that are completely original and special in certain ways, which this is not.

Cobra Kai: The Rise (2021)
Season 4, Episode 10
9/10
Once again Cobra Kai works best when there is less talking and more fighting
1 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The fighting has always been what kept this show afloat, and it's just the same this season.

The final 2 episodes delivers an exciting ending to a - once again - mediocre season of soap opera story lines.

This season continues the trend of previous seasons of every single character being as stupid as humanly possible, almost always making the absolute worst decision. The characters are flip flopping between being relatable and authentic to being mere caricatures of real life teenagers and adults.

The acting is arguably at it's worst it's been in the show, and the main cast getting more and more out of form doesn't help with authenticity. Then again, the training progression in this show has never been even close to realistic.

Even with what's commonly referred to as an "idiot plot" and the show being inhumanely frustrating at times, it's still engaging enough for me to keep watching.

Silver has been a srurpisingly good addition to this show, he was one of the few characters that actually felt like he stayed in character all the way through. I always disliked Kreese, because he is a completely one-dimensional character, so I'm glad he's gone for now (should've been in prison for a long time).

3/10 acting 9/10 fighting/competition 5/10 story

6.5/10 overall for season 4.

If you don't speak spanish... you'll miss absolutely nothing
22 December 2021
What is this with everyone crying about no subtitles? Most of what was said in spanish was immediately translated or given context in the next sentence, and everything else was obvious from context anyway. I don't get it. There were no subtitles needed. At all.

I absolutely loved this. This is so many levels above No Way Home, which I saw on Saturday. It's such a stark contrast to see a legitimately good movie versus a bunch of fan service tied together with the thinnest of stories.

Can't recommend this more. Rachel Zegler is AMAZING. She will be big.

Happy holidays :)

What a terrible, predictable and clicheè movie. I don't know what they spent all that money on, but it didn't even look good. Terrible green screens, terrible CGI (beyond terrible) and a terrible storyline.

Ryan Reynolds as Ryan Reynolds completely feel flat, The Rock as The Rock also wasn't much of a banger. I'm growing to be a fan of Gal Gadot though, atleast she doesn't play herself in every movie.

Waste of time, don't watch this.

Eternals (2021)
8/10
I don't understand how this movie is "dense"
4 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So many critics and reviewers here said this movie is "dense" or there is alot to "unpack". I don't get it. The story is very straightforward, little to no exposition.

Most of the movie is about the drama between the characters and them finding out more about the "Emergence". And the twist at the midpoint of the movie is really the only big exposition dump, and it's like 3 minutes and actually quite interesting.

I liked it. It was entertaining to me. I liked the lore expansion alot, it made sense to me. And I'm a sucker for lore.

The biggest weakness of the movie to me, and others will feel totally different about this, is that I couldn't root for the Eternals. The movie didn't present an alternate solution to Arishem's plan to create a new Eternal and with it trillions of lives. Without an alternative what the Eternals are doing is just selfish to me. Safe Billions and prevent trillions from existing and also help the universe fall into darkness. To me the Eternal's decision was the wrong one here. It's definitely a dilemma, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Anyway, contrary to many others, I liked the Deviants. Their purpose wasn't to be the movie's antagonists, not at all. It was to show that the Deviants and the Eternals weren't so different, and after the "Prime Deviant" got Ajaks powers (free will as a part of it) we see that his objective changes. His objective is no longer to follow their creators design to kill all live on earth, but rather to protect his kind from the ones that want to harm them: The Eternals. I liked this. The Eternals are not the "bad guys of this movie". Actually, there isn't one. The movie is one big moral dilemma.

Not everything worked well, but I'll give this a solid 8. It's not a dense movie.

So what exactly is the downside of being an echo? So far it seems they are just immortal, but otherwise exactly like they were before they died.

If you're saying she's making stupid decisions...
9 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sure, but you didn't understand the show. You're probably either looking at it from an insanely priviledged position (like I did too), you have Netflix plan god damn, something Alex could never even dream of, OR you simply don't understand what this story is about.

Some of her decisions 'seem' stupid from an outside point of view, but the main point of this show is how hard it is for victims of domestic violence to escape and get away from their abusive partner, be it because of the law, or because the control their partner has over them is rooted so deep.

And on top of that, she even has a bipolar mother and has to care for her child without any education or real goverment help.

This is one of the best shows I've seen in quite a while and it will probably take an equally long time to forget it. Masterful.

Riddled with plotholes
6 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The amount of plotholes in this episode and their severity is actually absurd. It's as if they added them on purpose (for example Natasha controlling Loki through his armor, while we clearly know that doesn't work from The Avengers, but that's one of the insignificant ones).

1) Last episode I talked about how Infinity Stones shouldn't work outside of their universes, so people said "well that's not canon here", so now in this episode they make it a plotppint that kind of implies that they shouldn't work lol

2) If the Infinity Stones work, Ultron should easily be able to simply erase everyone instantly, no fight required. Been the same last episode, but this episode it's even more dumb because that's why he loses.

3) This stupid Zola stuff: That's just unrealistic af. I mean, so far Hawkeye's arrows could dock to a USB-like interface in The Avengers, which is fine I guess, but now they can just connect to everything. And even if we ignore that, how dumb is it that a Hydra AI from the 60s (or something) could overwhelm an AI like Ultron, developed by Tony Stark in 2014. Meh. Especially if you consider that fact that Zola isn't even an AI, but supposedly just his brain.

I could go on and on.

This episode had some really cool moments and I did like how they tied all of the episodes together, but overall, it's just a mediocre show and I sincerely hope we never see any of it in the live action MCU.

Great episode tainted by the grandfather of all plotholes
29 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Infinity stones do not work outside the universe they come from. Atleast it's been like that in the comics and *hinted* at in Loki. And frankly, it makes alot of sense and they should not change that.

But even if they did, they definitely do not work in a space like the Watcher's that exists outside of the multiverse, as we've seen in Loki.

That makes this whole episode pretty dumb.

If you can see past that (and the ridiculous killing of Thanos with 5 Infinity stones using a mindstone beam), then this is a pretty awesome episode!

Dune (2021)

I did not read the book and I did not know what to expect exactly. I LOVED it.
15 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen many reviewers write that this movies has no ending. That's true. BUT: The ending Denis chose seems perfect to me. There is no cliffhanger, no big question that I needed immediate answers to. This movie is about house Atreides being betrayed and the path this sets Paul on. This path leads him to his new home: Arrakis.

In that sense, this movie had enough of an ending for me to not feel dissatisfied.

That said, I will probably go and read the book instead of waiting 3 years (or forever) for the conclusion of this story arc.

This is a movie of gigantic scale that feels so familiar, yet so fresh and and unique in it's own way. It's a 2.5 hour, polished piece of art and spectacle.

I cannot recommend it more, and if you're hesitant because it's just part 1, don't be.

I would give this an easy 9.5/10.

Absolutely pointless and so cheesy it hurts
16 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Utterly pointless episode. The whole season it feels like they have no idea what they wanna do with the show, but this episode was especially disconnected. It almost felt like a completely different show.

It's also cheesy to no end. Ted Lasso has been cheesy before, but those cheesy moments have to be earned, which was definitely not the case here.

It feels like with every episode it drifts further and further away from any grounding in reality. Wtf was that whole thing with Phoebie. Nothing like that ever happened/will ever happen in the history/future of humankind. Totally dumb.

Anyway, alot to improve upon this season, and I hope they can get close to the standard they set in season 1.

Fresh, crazy and clever
22 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really didn't expect much more than a mediocre teen drama going into this, but it really delivered a great surprise!

With it's fun style of narration and quite clever writing, I was instantly hooked and this one really is a gem among all the other teen dramas.

In my opinion it is best when it's not about the love triangle (I hate love triangles), but it does make for some good drama aswell.

At times it can also be quite hard to qatch when the main character Devi is a total ass.

But apart from those two things I think it's a fantastic show and I am really looking forward to season 3.
