Ms. Marvel: Generation Why (2022)
Season 1, Episode 1
8/10
Give it an honest shot, it might just surprise you
9 June 2022
I think most people that went in to this show were skeptical to say the least (myself included). Ms Marvel is a character that can be very annoying and unlikable (Avengers game being a good example.) Next you add on a multi hundred million dollar show about her that's a "coming-of-age tale". Not really what most people wanted from these big budget marvel shows.

This episode was actually very surprising. First off, Iman Vellani (Ms Marvel), is actually pretty incredible in the role. She did a great acting job and is very believable as a super fan of the Avengers and as a typical nerdy teenager. It's somehow so difficult for many shows to accurately depict that type of dynamic in a way that's not cringy or so overdramatic. This show really makes you feel like you're following a fangirl headed to comic con. This isn't presented in a way I thought was dumb or overplayed. It felt natural and it felt right. I really don't want to understate how spectacular she portrays this character.

Now obviously, following a fangirl to comic con is not something to make a show off of as not many people really want to see that. This show slows the pace down a little bit and spends time building her character and building her life. So much content with marvel completely misses this crucial aspect. You have to spend times with characters as characters in order to grow them and in order to grow people's care for them. The dynamic with her family felt incredibly real. I am not Pakistani and can not speak on the accuracy of the representation but the family dynamic was still so real that I could relate to it and relate to the struggles of arguing with parents to try and go out with friends.

The relationship with Kamala's friend was also pretty good. The two have good chemistry together and form a good dynamic. It will likely turn into a stereotypical "friends fall in love" storyline as hinted at multiple times, but I enjoy the two together nonetheless.

I also really like the way Kamala is written. As someone who is easily distractable and has a pretty wild imagination, I could really feel the character in these scenes. Also this allowed for a lot of really fun editing techniques. The editing in this first episode has been amazing. The way the editing was presented gave me Edgar Wright vibes. It's very imaginative and colorful and I really like it.

The plot so far hasn't been much but there was a lot of character building so as of now that can be overlooked. I will say the episode kind of began to fall apart in the end. No spoilers but was a little too dramatic but stopped itself before it went *too* far. My biggest gripe for the show comes with the cgi. This show again has a budget that's likely somewhere between $150-250 million. In case you don't know, most cable shows get around $10M if they're really successful and streaming shows or big budget channel shows like AMC get around $40-$50 million. This show has no excuse for the cgi to be lackluster.

I really don't want to complain about this show much though, I really enjoyed this first episode. Not everyone that watches this will enjoy it as goes for any movie or show but don't trash talk this show if you haven't watched it. Give it a chance and it might just surprise you too. I am actually excited to see where this is going and to spend a little more time with its characters.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Good Ones (2021)
Season 8, Episode 1

What happened to this show?
14 August 2021
This show has dealt with political issues before in ways that felt natural and were very well executed. There was no subtlety in this episode, this isn't necessarily an issue but the execution is so poor. It's like they had a bot read a Twitter rant and then write this episode. They literally list off all events of the last year in the first five minutes. This was as pathetic as it gets.

A Parks and Recreation Special (2020 TV Special)

Perfect way to bring this back.
1 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In a world where reboots and recreations of shows are all over tv with very few being successful it's nice to have this. This special perfectly captured everything we loved about the show and the characters and gave us a few more great moments to remember in a way we all could relate. The song at the end was such a nice touch and seeing the side characters make their returns was perfect. Bravo guys! Couldn't have come at a better time.

What a great surprise!
21 February 2020
I was skeptical to say the least when I heard this show was being made. I decided to give it a shot anyway when the first episode premiered and loved it! This whole season has kept me laughing and enjoying every minute of it. It really was a great surprise and this episode did a great job closing up the season.

Swamp Thing: Loose Ends (2019)
Season 1, Episode 10
4/10
Spoiler free at first, will warn before I go in to spoilers. Please read!
2 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was a pretty solid season finale, but a terrible series finale.

I understand that this show didn't expect to be cancelled so early on, however the show still had plenty of time between the announcement and the finale to create a proper end to the show. This finale does not do anything to close almost any of the season's story arcs. If anything, the finale opens up more arcs and plotlines than it closes which was a very unwise choice. Keep in mind that almost all of my issues are due to the show's cancellation and shortened season and not so much the episode itself as it does maintain the great quality of the rest of the season.

SPOILER WARNING

The finale did a terrible job approaching the deaths of some of the larger characters such as Matt and Lucilia. Lucilia's death felt as it had no impact on the larger story and neither death even happened on screen! They might not have had the largest roles but they certainly deserved better deaths than were given. As I said earlier the show didn't resolve almost any of its plot lines. There's no resolution truly to the disease in the swamp, there's no resolution with the darkness, there's no resolution with Maria's story, there's no resolution with Avery's story, there's no resolution to Abbey's story. The show did nothing to resolve the plotlines of their story in the series finale! They even went as far as to end the show with a cliffhanger involving Jason's character turning into a creature like Swamp Thing, which at the time of writing this, will never be continued or followed upon. The scene was not even pivotal to the story from the first season as it is a post credit scene and could have easily been taken away from the episode before releasing it.

At the time of writing this review there seems to be no return of this show in sight. Unless DC is working on getting a second season of this show on another channel then they did an awful job on this finale.

Jessica Jones: A.K.A. Everything (2019)
Season 3, Episode 13
8/10
A fitting, yet unsatisfying end
28 June 2019
Jessica Jones has always been a great character driven show with intriguing characters and character driven stories. I don't want to go in to spoilers but all the characters get fitting ends for what they've become by the end of the show. Each character gets an end that fits their story but the ending feels unsatisfying and a tiny bit rushed. Of course not all endings are supposed to be satisfying and it did not seem to be the intention of this show to leave a satisfying end for all of the characters. However it was a strong end to a very strong season, I just feel like there could have been more closure. If the show is picked up later on by Hulu or some other streaming service with the rest of the Marvel Netflix originals then I believe we can see a better end as well as many more intriguing and solid stories to follow.

Good not great
13 June 2019
If you're looking for a movie like Days of Future Past which combines incredible story with great action then you are in the wrong place. However, if you are looking for a movie with some pretty great action sequences then give this movie a shot. The movie has great action scenes and also has a great score from Hans Zimmer. However, there are many problems with this movie: bland characters, bland story, terrible villain, etc. The characters feel like they're phoning in their lines and for the most part deliver very dull performances (Except for Michael Fassbender who continues to deliver a great magneto). The story is so cliche and once again the Phoenix isn't the antagonist in it's own movie but I won't say what it is to avoid spoiling the movie. However the villains have the most cliche and basic "destroy the world" motivation that has been done so many times. So if you love the X-Men and love the movies and characters you should give this a shot because it has great fight scenes and special effects, it's great to see the X-Men fight together on screen as they start to truly compliment everyone else's powers nicely and work as a team which is fun to watch. The music is also great and Hans Zimmer did another fantastic job. In conclusion if you're an x-men fan, I'd tell you to watch it because you'll probably enjoy parts of the movie (if you're on the fence then I'd say wait until a cheap showing or wait to rent, there's really not much that can be spoiled.) If you aren't a big fan and just wanted something to watch you will probably want to skip this movie.

Best season premiere of the show... One of the best episodes overall
4 January 2019
I've been waiting somewhat patiently for this season for a few months. I must say everything this season promised, it delivered. The showrunners knew this was it and they laid everything out perfectly for the beginning. All the crazy and insanity in this show has come down to this and for the first episode, it's everything you could've hoped for. If the rest of season is as good as this episode, it's going to be not just the best season of Gotham, but one of the best seasons to air on tv in recent memory

Not one for musicals, but this movie was outstanding!
17 September 2018
I am a musician and I enjoy a narrow range of movies. As someone who would usually pick an action movie or a thriller, I must say that this movie is great to all audiences. The music is amazing from a musicians standpoint to any movie goers standpoint. From the beginning to the end you get to listen to indelibly well performed songs. It is definitely a feel good movie that is great to watch with your family. I can not believe the reviews critics gave it, but you must have your own opinion and give it a chance because it is certainly worth it. The cast was great and they all did an amazing job. I'm still amazed how great I found the movie after initial reviews and with my personal taste I just thought it would be a meh to alright movie, but it was so much more and truly worth seeing again. Do not listen to critics on this movie and have a great time watching it.

Once more I would like to recognize how amazing the music in this movie is. I typically find music in movies lacking or being a little odd, but this did an amazing job!

Cloak & Dagger (2018–2019)

Not great, but not bad at all either
3 September 2018
I just finished the show tonight and it was pretty good. The show isn't anywhere near the standard marvel has set with their Netflix shows. Although, with all of these big and action packed stories, it's good to have a smaller story. The lead actors are great at their jobs and have good chemistry together. The show doesn't really pick up until a few episodes in. Unfortunately it doesn't pick up too much and go above and beyond your expectations, but it gets better. I give a 7 instead of a higher grade because the show is really predictable, uses many cliches, and really isn't something you haven't seen before. With that said, the show still manages to keep you invested in the characters as well as the story, and it is enjoyable. I would recommend this as something to binge if you don't have anything else to watch and want to give it a try. This a show you really only want to binge because you might lose interest if you watched it spaced out. The show isn't perfect and it has flaws, but it is something worth trying out at the very least.

Better than you expect... Especially if you're expecting the greatest marvel movie of all time
27 April 2018
I do not rate movies lightly and i have only once given a 10/10 to a movie. This is the only other time a 10/10 is justifiable. Every second of this movie is perfection. There is not a single moment of the movie that is not eventful or action packed. Every character gets their moment to shine and it's perfect. If you're expecting a great movie, you will not be disappointed and i guarantee you'll be surprised how much better it is than your expectation!
