Enjoyable but has its flaws.
15 March 2017
This production could have been a ten. A complex tale about a replacement professional being hired to cover, for a senior Architect, in a small practice.

As the story progresses, you become hooked, and are left guessing about every major character. There is quality tension, in more than a few scenes, and unlike some dramas a more restrained type of shock hits you, which is far more effective. Vicky McClure is simply superb, and i could watch her all day, as my wife equally agreed. Unfortunately Morven Christie, and Richard Rankin, were not as eye catching. One can find faults in the story line, but it entertained us both, and was enjoyable viewing. I bet Hitchcock would loved to direct this tale. The ending could have been so much better, and in dramas like this, having rather different or even sinister closure, would make it far more memorable. I also think there is plenty of room for this type of work, and even wonder if writers consult with genuine drama lovers, as to how to get the best out such stories. Reading complete reviews of this is risky, simply do what we did, and enjoy it.

Good film ...but sound quality was poor
13 March 2017
I very much enjoyed this thought provoking film. The script offers a clue as to why there is such hostility to the U S A in the middle east. A tense and action packed drama, which goes right to the wire. Having seen a few of these U S versus fanatics of middle eastern origin, in war zones, they seem to have a common problem. The viewing pleasure is undermined by poor sound quality. The issue is so problematic, that if viewers of T V Film packages demanded a sub title option, then something might be done, to offer an improvement. I would have given this film a 9/10 but demanded my money back had i had the listening experience in the cinema, like i had in my home. I am beginning to wonder if there is a cynical ploy of farming out poor quality sound action films, to mugs like us who pay for these packages.

I saw this alone.....!!!!!!!!!
2 March 2017
Some years ago, i scanned a few reviews in a film book, which were negative. To sum up the director copied every horror idea ever offered on the screen. Film critics...to hell with them. This film scared the hell out of me, and having three quality actors in Bette Davis, Karen Black, and Oliver Reed, sure helped.

Another film i believe needs the viewing done, alone, late , sober, in the cold, just to let the terror into your head, just before bed. I remember some rather unforgettable chilling scenes, and that alone makes the film a gem. A slow burner of a start, building up to a chilling climax make this a must see horror film. This movie is best seen without reading the spoon fed spoilers, and enjoyed by entering the journey of terror, into the world of horror.

Loved it!!!!!!!!!!
2 March 2017
I remember this film in 1971,almost as much for the John Barry soundtrack, as i loved it. As an 18 year old the whole religious slant in the film, was music to my ears, as being brought up a catholic always raised questions about everything about my supposed faith. I found the film one of the most thought provoking movies, that i had ever seen.

With fine performances by the cast, headed by Caine, and a great script, it held my interest throughout, even when i struggled to come to grips with 17th century Europe, as my history knowledge was found wanting. Should you want to see something completely different, then i would urge you to see this fine film

Unforgettable drama.
2 March 2017
This powerful film, had a huge effect on me, when i first saw it.I actually thought it was about swimming.

Lancaster was made to play this part, and boy is he good in this fine work.

A story of someone in a world of his own, who has blocked out reality, is superbly done, and with a great script. A film which hits the viewer like a ton of bricks at its end,and makes it compelling viewing. Avoid reading spoilers, as it will wreck your enjoyment of this excellent film.

Trumbo (2015)

What is good script writing ask Dalton!!!!
2 March 2017
I love cinema, and time after time failed to appreciate the importance of a good script. Take the classic film Spartacus, and listen to the lines of Olivier, Laughton, Ustinov, Douglas. Yet i always leaned towards Spartacus as the finest epic ever made. Trumbo was an education, as Cranston rattled off his lines in his bath, and it hit me, we cinema goers, who are not acting students, just might underestimate the importance of script writing. As a film Trumbo does a fine job as telling us this, and it is far more important than the commie witch hunting business. Senator mccarthy died out as the cold war cooled, and common sense prevailed. I loved the film, and now i am far more critical of cinema than ever before, as i see so many movies with dreadful lines , no story and overrated CGI effects.

A chilling tale.
2 March 2017
When i first saw this complex film in 1973, it terrified me. I was far from sure that i understood what was going on, but, i was scared stiff. The acting was top notch, with fantastic photography of Venice, and excellent set piece scenes, made this work unforgettable. Viewing it again, the film holds up very well as a quality horror film, when compared with so many of today's offerings, as its simply much much better. Highly recommended for true horror fans, you wont be disappointed.

This story needs a quality big budget re make, and it would succeed.
2 March 2017
This film looks very very dated, but it has its moments. The beginning is none too bad, but there is an opportunity here . This film should be be remade, and with the right budget , stars, and special effects, it would be a roaring success.

When i saw this film in 1962, i always felt something was not quite right, probably because the effects were so limited. The problem with cult films is that they tend to be low budget productions, and if they are old, they simply don't past the test of time.

Students and makers of Science fiction work, should see this film, and see why i think like War of the Worlds, with Tom Cruise, which was a fine remake could be either equalled or bettered, if this story was retold.

What a waste.
2 March 2017
I am only completing my required five lines, all because this was such a dreadful effort of a remake. Having the early work as a template to work with, its simply incredible that this effort was even made. Boy oh boy is it bad, and probably one of the worst re makes of a science fiction story i have ever seen. Sorry giving it a 1/10 is far too generous.

Disappointing
2 March 2017
With Peter O'toole in the cast, you cant go wrong, so it had to be worth a second look over 30 years later. Sorry to other reviewers, this was a dated and tired looking film. A poorly told story for the silver screen, and an ordinary script, with a dull ending. My wife fell asleep, and she was dead right . O'toole was a fantastic performer to watch, but this one was not one of his best efforts. With many remakes being churned out, this story could certainly be re told today, and with the right casting and direction be a cracking film.

Has not stood the test of time
1 March 2017
This film should be seen, as it has good things about it. However trying to cram into a couple of hours the whole story of the king Arthur, shows up the film's limitations. There is simply far too much to tell, and looking at today's dramas like game of thrones, it simply looks dated. There is a quality T V series waiting to be made about the complete Arthurian legend, on the scale of game of Thrones, with a colossal world wide audience of millions and millions. I have yet to see a proper film of the Arthurian legend, having read the Lancing Green book as a kid. What I liked about the book was there was so much of a story to be told, and if it had to be re made as a film, there would need to be at least three.

A poor sequel...arnie go back to politics and stay there.
1 March 2017
This was a bad infected thanksgiving turkey of a film. Just how bad could Hollywood get with this garbage. Unbelievable that the makers even thought this film could compete with the first three. I found no entertainment value in this sequel. How could Arnie even have the nerve to get out of bed to read the reviews of this movie. One wonders if this will kill off the franchise forever, as fans reflect on this, or even care about what might be. One of the worst films I saw in 2015.

One of my favourite Wayne films.
1 March 2017
I really enjoyed this film, and feel that Wayne should have got the Oscar for this. This is in my opinion a better film than True Grit, and more memorable. Even the Eye patch, cant compete with this work. Some have claimed that Wayne never deserved his Oscar, all because he played himself, well in this last film he sure did. He was so convincing as the main character, that you could imagine yourself in the saloon, as the climax of the film takes hold of you. Wayne was an entertainer, and he did a fine job in doing this for my cinema ticket cost every time I saw him. A must see film for true fans of the western.

A huge disappointment because i like ridley scott films.
1 March 2017
My biggest problem with this film was the script. Sigourney Weaver was wasted, amongst other cast members. One could question having Bale in the leading role, and based on this result with good reason. Unlike Scott's other epic the Kingdom of Heaven, memorable verbal exchanges between the characters, are non existent or any good. Having quality C G I effects simply cannot hold flimsy screenplay together. The story of Moses is a good one, but this is not a patch on the 1955 film, with Heston as Moses, all because Cecil B Demille, was a far better story teller, for the big screen in this instance anyway.

Don't believe everything you read here.
1 March 2017
I saw this film last night, knowing full well that reviewers slaughtered this work. I watched it late at night, and did not fall asleep, which is often the case with T V package film channel offerings.

There is a tale being told here, but it is far from clear just what is going on, yet I kept watching, with more and more interest. Rather than spoil everything by telling the pessimist what happens, I suggest you take a risk, and watch the film. The ending does make a lot more sense than a heck of a lot of other films that I have seen in the past year, so I refuse to join the queue of sceptics. To say the acting is rubbish ( 1 reviewer ) I beg to disagree here, and the script does help just a little more in explaining things towards the end of the film.

A Bronson treat of a film.
1 March 2017
If you like simple story action films, which are made to entertain, you will love this. A fine supporting cast, great script, and sensible action scenes. I saw it again a year ago, and it was as fresh as an autumn apple. Bronson does a convincing job of playing a no nonsense, don't tell me what to do farmer. No Melons were hurt in the making of this film.

Starts well, but dragged on.
1 March 2017
We watched the film, and after 30 minutes, started wondering why this was supposed to be so good. Well it all became a rather boring experience, and keeping our eyes open until the end , became a bit of an ordeal. Sometimes we viewers can be seduced into overpraising ordinary story telling, when the work fails to entertain, having been over hyped up by the media. Far too long, and be sure to have the guts to check out the less positive reviews, before deciding to watch this overlong, and dull production.

A complete waste of acting talent, and time if you watch this .
1 March 2017
I watched all 4 of these films, and saw just how bad a franchise can fall. This effort was absolute rubbish, and what was worse the evidence was to be seen by its trailer.Just about all the effect scenes squeezed in.

Enjoy the first two films, but avoid like the plague the last pair. To sum up ....mock both jays......they deserve the full treatment, on the verbal use table.

Please believe the reviews .
1 March 2017
Having scanned through a few reviews,i can only agree 100% with them. This work is often praised because of Connery, but that is not the true picture. The real star of this low budget film, is the script, and the actors relish in their performances. A magnificent piece of work, and clear evidence of just how important the direction and screenplay are in cinema.

A genuine cult film
1 March 2017
I cannot recommend this film highly enough. A true cult film, with a powerful eerie soundtrack. Filled with mystery, and it keeps you guessing from start to finish. Thought provoking, and complex, but well worth a look. I watched it knowing nothing about the film beforehand, and it makes viewing all the more rewarding.

An epic western
1 March 2017
This film had its critics, but i am not one of them. When i saw this epic work, the time flew as the story unfolded. I viewed it as a history lesson, of the west, and left the cinema elated and educated. Fantastic scenery, and set piece scenes, with quality performances to boot. One of my favourite westerns, and it has so much more depth than more popular fare.

A classic western of the first order.
1 March 2017
I loved this film, seen it at least three times. I could kidnap western fans, starve them, then force them to watch this classic. Afterwards they would probably reward me for what they went through. The film has everything, a great script, top notch acting, and a very believable story.

Take a bunch of unknown actors, a good story, and make a masterpiece.
27 February 2017
I loved this superb work, and got such a surprise when i first saw it. I would recommend that the reviews are not studied, in part because the film is best viewed as the story unfolds. I found the actors and dialogue so convincing, that i almost felt i was present during the key scenes. Having seen it at least three times, i cannot recommend it enough. Back in 1971 i found it more than educational, which was a nice bonus.

A thought provoking tale of our future?
27 February 2017
I saw this fantastic film, with no knowledge of what it was about. The viewer is treated to a very visionary look at our planets future, and it is rather a disturbing one at that. Heston is superbly cast as the hero, and to see E G Robinson in his last film, makes it all the better for our appreciation. I have seen it at least three times, and found the film compelling viewing. The special effects could be criticised, but as the story unfolds, you simply wont care, because the film is so darned good.I hope they don't ever remake this fine film, all because i cannot think of a better actor than Charlton Heston, for the leading role.

Brilliant
27 February 2017
This was the first ever scary film that i ever saw. I have enjoyed three differing versions of this story. A low budget effort it is, but superbly directed, a fantastic script and it is so good that the case for special effects almost can be thrown out the window. I have always loved science fiction horror films, and this one is right up there with the best of them. A slow start, and a believable tale is shown to the audience, as the doctor struggles to deal with the comings and goings on in the town. Simply a must see for students of science fiction horror.
