Morlang (2001)
Adultery at its worst
This is more than a wife simply cheating on her husband. This is adultery which is intended to hurt her husband , physically, emotionally and every which way possible. . Its no shock to me how this movie ends. Morlang, a successful artist has been married for a long time and we are led to beleve they have a good relationship and marriage, but his wife obviously feels otherwise. . She acts as his manager and accepts a manager position with a much younger and flirtatious artist. M orlang senses that there is an attraction between them and when the young client wants to paint her, she initially laughs it off, but M orlang suggests that it sounds like a good idea, she gives the impression that she is being forced by him to pose. When the time arrives, she tells her husband to tell her not to go. He says nothing. Its as if she knows what she will do if she goes, but her husband tests her by making the decision to go or not to go hers and not his.. She goes, and leaves in an angry mood. Morlang realizes what could happen and tries to spy on them. When he realizes what she is likely doing, he is emotionally destroyed and paints his own image of his misery. . She senses that he knows when she returns that he knows what she has done., but neither discuss it until she gets angry with him about him accepting bad news without challenging it she describes it as his passiveness. Not content with simply complaining about him she becomes intent on wanting to hurt him , in a way that would cause pain and humiliation in any man. She describes in gory detail how physically sexual he was with her and she says it with a clear intent to hurt him. He doesnt show his pain but how the movie plays out after that confrontation is what makes this movie the real reaction he ultimately has to her betrayal

Dysfunction at its worst
Dysfunctional is more than just a word in this emotional roller coaster. Its about a strange relationship between a married couple with a young son who appears to be the only thing that they agree on. The wife is an emotional terrorist when it comes to her relationship with her husband. She flirts and acts seductive with him causing him to get sexually aroused as any normal Man would be. But she refuses and fights him so they are never intimate. She is more intimate with her male friends and coworkers. She even gives in to the advances of one of them while continually frustrating her poor husband.. hard to imagine him staying with her, but he does and continually accepts her sexual frustration she causes him with no resolution. Its either an amazing love story or a poor excuse of a man who is sexually a prisoner to her abuse. Never the less it is an interesting story about a truly disfunctional marriage. And the irony of it all is she loves him
The Weight of Water (2000)
the end of the marriage
Much has been written about the comparisons of the two individual stories. the historical story is well played out, but not everyone feels the current story was as equally defined. I may be somewhat naive in my interpretation, but i think its justified by how the current story, and the marriage ,plays out. Prior to the storm, the sexual tension between all 4 parties came to a head. Catherine Mccormick was convinced that her husband was either in an affair or about to have an affair with Hurleys character. Meanwhile tension was slowly building up between Catherine and her brother in law. The storm creates the conditions that lead to the emotional destruction of the marriage. When Catherine and her brother in law return to the ship after a lengthly stay on the island, Penn is quick to accuse her of dallying with his brother. She of course accuses him of doing the same thing with Hurley while they were gone. This event signifies the beginning of the end for this marriage, at least emotionally. The marriage itself cannot survive and culminates with the unfortunate drowning of Penns character. Death in both scenarios is the overiding factor of final resolution Some people might think that the accusations against each other could have led to the kind of confrontation that could lead to a more amicable relationship. But that is pure wishful thinking, and i much prefer the reality of finality, as that was the only logical conclusion to this story I was satisfied and gave it a 7

A funny kind of honeymoon
I enjoyed the movie. The scenery, the cinematography was excellent. The marriage however was on shaky ground. What a way to spend a honeymoon. The husband practically abandons his wife to follow an unrealistic fantasy. The wife is no better. Sure, she has reason to be upset, but strolling over to the captains quarters in the middle of the night, in her nightgown doesnt bode well for their long term future. Shes not there to play cards.. at some point they both realize they have been childish in their actions, but the final scene where each realzes they have been unfaithful to each other, although in different ways, there is little to suggest that this type of conduct wont continue in the future
Coastlines (2002)
Strange ending
It amazes me how many people think this film ended with the husband and wife coming together and him realizing that he had to be more active with her to resolve their issues. As if it was his fault she couldnt stop banging his best friend. If you listen carefully to the dialogue between them when he finally comes home. Being happy with just the two of them wasnt enough. Im left with the only logical conclusion that when he tells her betraying friend that he didn't have to leave town. He was willing to accept being a cuckold in order to keep his wife happy. And to turn a blind eye to the resumption of her infidelity. Thats not the kind of resolution that most of us would accept, but then again this is holy wood
Hudson River Blues (1997)
Interesting family dynamic
There's little about this trip that suggests its to help their marriage.this couple is on different career paths and each apparently feels that their needs are greater than their spouse. The husband is burnt out on his current job and seeks some degree of less tension and more enjoyable work situation despite it being a serious reduction of income the wife has hopes of becoming a partner in the law firm she works in. With her theres little doubt that work comes before marriage. So how exactly is this trip suppose to help their marriage, especially since the job he wants is in her old home town, no where near the excitement of new york city. The movie deals with their conflict as to how to resolve these critical job issues. Will one party , namely the wife, quit her job at her high level law firm and relocate to her home town where hubby plans to start his new job or will hubby realize the financial consequences of his move and allow his wife to achieve her dream job of making partner. After considerable bickering and even suggestions of spouses paying too much attention to members of the opposite sex...SPOILER ALERT. We are suppose to believe each party eventually agrees with each others goals and pledge to work it out by getting together on weekends. Yeah, like that's not going to lead to serious marital issues. Hard to imagine the lawyer wife after making partner and being subject to numerous temptations of every imaginable type that her position would subject her to. I didnt get the impression that there's enough in this marriage to make this arrangement work. So no happy ending for me
Digging for Fire (2015)
An opportunity to cheat
Both husband and wife are alone, and away from each other and each has an opportunity to indulge in a little extramarital romp. But only one does it, and its not the husband. We know this because , unlike the wife, we see his entire episode and he doesnt score. Not because he didnt want to, too many interruptions. The wife however tells us that she has a n enormous appetite for passion and she admits that shes alone with a man who she probably will never see again. Opportunity knocks for her. The next scene with the two of them, they are walking hand in hand on a beach, looking very satisfied with one another. He kisses her like hes already familiar with her. She doesnt object, but lets him know that shes done and is ready to go home, feeling very guilty . He also feels guilty, but not because he got lucky, but because he wanted to. So it ends with two guilty people taking a shower to cleanse themselves of their guilt
