Raazi (2018)
Logically coherent movie & a gripping thriller
Independent of your political/national affiliations, this is a very well made movie. There are hardly any loose ends. The director thought of all possible angles. For example, when Zehmat (Alia Bhatt) stumbles while planting evidence against Abdul, it ties back later when her husband finds evidence against her.
The general atmosphere and 70s era is captured very well. If you love spy movies this is a must watch.
A Death in the Gunj (2016)
A glimpse in to the dark heart of humans
The masterful art of storytelling is often not associated with Indian directors. But this movie is an exception. The pace of the movie is befitting the story and the cast is perfect. Everyone acts just perfectly. The story meanders through a family vacation which takes some nasty twists. It starts on a happy note, but soon the relationships start falling apart as people reveal their true colors. A highly recommended title. Must watch.
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
I feel this movie is better than Godfather
Only Sergio Leone can make violence poetic. The movie is sparse on dialogues and mostly counts on visual cues and music.
This movie seems like a cross between Coppola's Godfather and Kubrick's 2001. It beautifully tells the tales of young Jewish men who take up crime in early 20th century.
Every scene in the movie seems carefully crafted. Each eye movement seems intent based. Definitely recommended.
