The Little Things (2021)
Boo
This movie could've turned out great if simply the cast was given more to do and they had a better script.
Death Wish (2018)
Not seeing the original, I hope it's better than this!
Plot: Bruce Willis plays a surgeon at a hospital saving people's lives and helping them live another day. So after an event that transpires putting his family in the hospital, he feels angry and later wants revenge on the people that hurt his family.
Let's start with some positives: The humor is good and there are some entertaining parts.
But these are where the flaws show afterwards because this movie feels boring after the 1st act. The characters are underdeveloped that you don't feel much of anything for them. You don't care by the end because they end up being forgettable. It also doesn't offer up anything for the lead because there isn't really much of a big moment that puts him danger and makes him feel vulnerable. That's why it's boring because he just overpowers everyone in the end, and there isn't much of a conflict involved. He doesn't even hesitate and ask himself: Is what I do different than these people? They don't really give the other side a chance that might think this guy is not really the hero people are talking about. Especially because there is no clear main baddie throughout the film, just a sequence of random thugs except for like one guy at the beginning of the movie. It's also unrealistic because there is like no one that actually recorded anything in one event. The characters also made a few dumb decisions throughout that don't make any sense.
Overall: If I see the original, it better have good stuff. Because this movie wasn't the best.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Fun and Adventurous
Wow. This was actually really good. I actually wanna sequel too. How do you take a fun video game and turn it into a good family film? Why by having Jim Carrey starring as the delightfully fun and evil Dr. Robotnik and a dyanamic duo with James Marsden and Ben Schwartz. Ben Schwartz playing the fun blue little hedgehog does an excellent job portraying the character by making him likeable and you enjoy every bit of his journey. James Marsden does a decent job as Tom. And then there's Carrey. Holy crap folks! This man has a made a great comeback. The best ever since his portrayal as Ace Ventura and the riddler combined. Funny, and a good comedic villain at the same time intimidating by the 3rd act. Best of all, you actually care for Sonic. The character development is there. The comedy is there. It's amazing.
The only problem: it may be hard for some people to get invested in Marsden's character as Tom. Because while the duo is amazing once Tom meets Sonic, you don't know much about him. All you know really about Tom is that he's a cop and he wants to leave Montana. That's really it. But it's probably because the main focus is Sonic. Sonic however you actually feel for him if you can relate to loneliness in your life and especially attached of you played all the video games. Oh, and the Olive Garden product placement. Dear God! Aside from a few issues, this is actually one kids and adults will enjoy, and SEGA fans don't have to worry. Especially after Sonic's redesign. Boy, did we need that!
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)
Meh...
Aside from a decent performance from Cory Feldman as a young Tommy and a few likeable characters (not all for me though), it just feels like the same old copy and paste formula of the previous films. There is some good cast choices and Ted White as Jason does an okay job, but it doesn't feel that special as a final chapter. Clichés are up the ass. Overall, if you wanna see Jason getting his ass kicked by a kid, you could probably see it. But if you skip this one, you won't miss much.
Drive (2011)
An unexpected surprise
Drive is a very good movie with great casting for each of its characters. And while action is minimal (which may upset some people), it works as a good drama into a look of character. The acting is pretty good, and works with the slow burn character development that's in this film. What I like is how there's also some quiet moments in the movie where a character doesn't say anything, but you can feel their emotions with what they're thinking. The one flaw that I have are that I feel like you don't really spend enough time with the husband of the driver's girlfriend. Like he was just thrown in there just to kickstart the plot into motion. You can leave him out of the picture and still have a movie about our main character protecting his girlfriend and her kid. But other than that, this is a good movie. Just don't go in expecting it to be an action movie because it ain't, it's a character piece mostly. A very enjoyable one that you could probably watch again to try and figure out the ending.
Lake Mungo (2008)
Disturbing and tragic!
This movie gets under your skin; it is unnerving, and sad at the same time! So many levels of horror are built into this movie. The choice of going a documentary styled film, Lake Mungo is very realistic in its approach. The acting = perfect for these unknown actors not talked about until this movie came out. The tension, Some of the images in the movie give you goosebumps like uugh; just thinking about it is creepy.
If you haven't seen Lake Mungo and want a scary, realistic horror film (which is entirely fiction btw but the movie really convinces you otherwise),give this one a go! You won't regret it.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
A fun goofy slapstick
I went into this movie knowing you weren't supposed to take it real serious. I mean bodies wrapped in cotton candy? Alive popcorn? So in not taking it to seriously, it works. The acting was good, the clowns are funny, and the movie is paced well. But if you're expecting real scary, it's not that, which could be flaw if you're expecting a serious horror film. And the movie has some clichés you would expect, like the skeptic who doesn't believe anything 'till last minute, kids that know much about stranger danger, and a literal cartoonic 'damsel in distress' type of character.
But even with some of its flaws, it's still good. Just go in knowing this is more of a comedy like I did.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
We need more horror shows like this from Netflix!
Damn! This show is AMAZING! Looking for ghosts that pop up in the background. Good writing, love the cinematography (especially in the 6th episode), performances: OMG! And not many jumpscares! And the jumpscares that do pop up in the show are executed in a way that doesn't feel cheap; really catches you off guard in a good way!
This show is a must watch for people who haven't seen it yet; great for Halloween!
Halloween (1978)
Masterpiece!
A perfect slasher movie to watch on Halloween that doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares or too much gore.
The Shining (1980)
A Masterpiece of Tension & Suspense!
If you were from the 80s, or you're a big horror movie buff like me, you need to see The Shining if you haven't already. There's no pros and cons for this review because I couldn't find any flaws. The acting is perfect, the horror is top notch, and a movie so good it's still talked about today.
If you haven't checked out this movie, please do so!
In the Tall Grass (2019)
An interesting adaptation
I haven't read the book yet, but now I want to knowing my love for Stephen King. You got It, Misery, Insomnia, The Shining, Doctor Sleep, and the list goes on.
Now because of this, let me know any differences about the novella; as for the movie, it was good. But for me there were a few flaws.
Here are positives first: acting, good. Casting choice, gotta love Patrick Wilson. A nice uneasiness in the first act.
Cons: the plot, what's going on? Don't get me wrong, I like mystery. A little vagueness makes me happy, but this felt a little overwhelming. The elements are cool, but man is there so much to take in. A woman having a baby, grass that can talk, okay. Time travel? Alien rock? Grass people? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down a bit! Need to play catch up, man!
Second, where's the tension by act 2? First 2 acts in my opinion should have unease; then the 3rd can have the final battle? But by the 2nd act, the tension is there, but then deflates a little.
Overall, it's not a bad movie, but this is by no means groundbreaking! I say put it on where there is nothing else good you can find to watch.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Decent adaptation
This was a good film! It wasn't as good as the first or as scary, but the film does a good job of exploring in depth of the losers' club again! Here are some pros and cons:
Pros: the acting is good. Casting choices are execellent. Love how they being the young losers' club back! Some scary ass moments for sure. Pacing is good for a 169 min. flick (2 hours 49 minutes if you don't know at the top of your head). Cinematography is excellent (especially for the flashback scenes).
Cons: It feels more jumpscarey than the 1st film. Not all the way through, but for me it was noticeable. CGI was good for one scene in particular, but in the rest that follows, it can be a bit noticeable that these are definitely digital effects that look a little fake for some people. There's a certain dynamic that could've been explored more; which I won't spoil for the people who haven't seen the film, for those that have might know what I'm talking about.
Not as good as the first, but if you got almost 3 hours to spare, I say check it out.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
Better than I thought.
It was actually a decent film by Guillmero Del Toro. And actually scary in some parts, especially for a PG-13 film!
Jigsaw (2017)
A good Saw sequel. (Or is it a Prequel? Find out for yourself...)
I liked this movie. It's not the best of the Saw sequels but it is a good one. The traps are cool. And it has a good story. Although I wish they whould have filled out more informan on Dr. Gordon or Hoffmann. What happened to them? But overall, a good time. Die hard Saw fans should enjoy this.
Courage the Cowardly Dog (1999)
Possibly best tv show EVER?
I freaking loved this show!!! The soundtrack, the characters, the plot! It's a MASTERPIECE!!! This is a great show that I strongly recommend. for both kids and adults alike!
Halloween (2007)
OK take on a classic
Rob Zombie's Halloween isn't a complete piece of crap, but it wasn't a masterpiece. I know Laurie is the main character in this movie, but I feel like Michael is the main character because we like spent the first 30 minutes of this film with Michael. I do like how Zombie gives Micheal character in this movie, but it was a bit scarier giving Michael no motivation because it made him feel like a killer with no reason but to kill. And Laurie kind of comes off as an a@#hole in this movie. Although later on it does get better near the final act. Malcolm McDowell does give a solid performance and Danielle Harris is decent. On a positive for Laurie, she is funny in one part. The story is OK. OK film, but Rob Zombie should fix his mistakes if he makes another reboot. C+
Cars 3 (2017)
Awesome
Cars 3 is probably just as good as the first one. Way better than Cars 2! It is really emotional. It has some good laughs! The story is amazing! The characters are great. I liked the new trainer Cruz Rameriez's character. We get some older cars and new younger generations like Jackson Storm. Good Ending (NO SPOILERS I PROMISE!). If you really like Cars 1, you're gonna love Cars 3!
Outlast 2 (2017)
Awesome
I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was a great game. This sequel is great, scary jump scares. Creepy atmosphere and other horrific/effed up stuff. My only gripe about this game is the ending was confusing (NO SPOILERS!). Other than that though I still recommend this one! Really enjoyed it!
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Average
I thought it was OK. I liked the story and plot. Action was cool. But some of this film felt boring, like some things in this felt confusing. And some scenes of this movie felt very long. Acting was OK. Another downside is that there was a few jokes in this movie, some I laughed at while others I didn't. (Spoiler?) We didn't get much of Optimus prime either. The villain was a bit disappointing. Autobots were OK. If u liked Optimus prime then prepare to be disappointed. Overall, I didn't hate this movie but it has issues. So lets hope Transformers 6 is better. Grade: C+
