Vermont Is for Lovers (1992)
Cute and endearing, encapsulates rural ideas on marriage
I wasn't the only one in the New Zealand theatre when this rolled round the country on the festival circuit, but it was hardly a packed house either. Which was a shame, as there were tonnes of great truisms, anecdotes, wry smiles, and honest to goodness country wisdom comes through throughout its short duration. I remember feeling uplifted, happy at the human condition with all its tribulations, not so alone in my cynicism, and eager to visit Vermont. So much so it made me want to watch it again, but can't find it available to stream for the life of me.
Also recommend John O'Brien's excellent 'Man with a Plan'.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Wispy Jehovah's witness pamphlet
Avatar the way of water was awful. I felt increasingly sick throughout, and want to hurl James Cameron off a big cliff. A massive budget blown on cheesy escapism for fools.
So many instances of plagiarism to behold the film is a parasite of others, it would make a teacher weep. A constant stream of cultural appropriation and blazen stereotyping had my eyes dizzy with their rolling.
Did you have the misfortune to watch it? Let us together cast this parlous memory into a bottomless abyss to fester on its deep limitations, replacing it with horde of chainsaw-wielding giant zombies marching on a school of trapped, screaming adolescents...
Inception (2010)
Cerebral
Great intense film, another Christopher Nolan classic
