The Schultz and Pilgrim story line has been in the background for most of the season with little development and characterization. But in this finale, it made for an entertaining plot point as it finally gives us closure and characterizes John a bit more. This finale also has some heartfelt scenes throughout with Bernthal and Barnes giving some of their best performances. The last scene however does feel tacked on but it was a nice cherry on top for what is possibly the last scene of the series.
The season as a whole was alright. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. It always had me interested to see what was going to happen next and the performances from most of the cast helped as well. This season also managed to up the ante on the quality and quantity of the action scenes with each one being equally brutal and gory. Like I mentioned earlier, the Schultz story line has been in the background for the majority of the season which was a disappointment because John Pilgrim seemed to be an interesting character that would have melded well with Frank's character. Amy and Krista, both new characters, were good in the season but never went above and beyond as they sometimes were put in the back seat for some episodes.Overall, for a possible final season, I think they handled it pretty well. There were some episodes that were predictable and some that felt like they were wasting time, but for most of the earlier and the later episodes, they were pretty solid and exciting to watch.
