Packaged well but elements are rapidly cinematic.
12 January 2023
A total treat for Ajith fans and neutral fans of commercial cinema.

AK has the charisma and swag nature of the character to a tee. Apart from a couple of choreo pieces in fights, most action scenes are just explosives, be it from guns or bigger guns.

Manju is a badass like AK , brought her coolness to the game. Comical characters sheds light on fraud journalism just as Vinoth goes on to unravel the dark side of banking. Sure certain moments of revealing "who's who" could have been served at a slower pace in the midst of the frantic heist tussle. A fun joy ride, mass cinema can be done right.

Takes Kamal Hassan to restore Tamil pride in 2022
3 June 2022
Yes Lokesh deserves the respects for the writing in this, both in character building and a cohesive spiderweb like screenplay. But without the emotive king in Kamal Hassan, another masala type actor is surely not going to give us the extraordinary range of his. Clearly it takes our Indian audience to enjoy products of script power to grieve masala pot boilers. Vijay Sethupathi is the one to take his mantle and Suriya too has paved the way much earlier. We need to continue to stop meddling with script writers, yes we know which masala heroes still do this. And we get flops.

Revenge (II) (2017)

dumb then dumb again
26 April 2020
You clearly see that the direction team obsession with the blood and prosthetics , it was really top notch work. Everything else is a mess just as the violence. The lead is super cute and surely has action potential. The 80's music were out of place most of the time and what is up with the riding and driving shots like it's from another film altogether. Honestly this film doesn't bleed any intense moments , the feeling of being caved in like ' I spit on your grave '. Disappointing killing scenes, zero creativity , laughable climax. The desert setting could have an awesome setting for a manhunt.

Saaho (2019)

4 for stunt work. why is Prabhas looking sleepy 80% of the time.
5 November 2019
Every stunt work was high octane , very well put together. The settings from all the fight scenes is borrowed from Hollywood with extra dosage of naive explosions. Color tones exaggerated and the audience will experience a mixed bag of colors every 20 minutes albeit the camera work being great. The depth of the underworld kings is sadly non existent, no backstories, they all look like props. Prabhas just keeps walking then running into bashing everyone in different modes of transport. Disgusting songs, wow kindergarten level lyrics on that. Shraddha Kapoor acts well and surely looking more fresh than Prabhas. He carried himself well as an action hero, but his face looked like it had CGI in some shots and other times had a sleepy look. All who's involved in the underworld organisation get worse and drown the confusing story even more with their robotic nature. Twists and reveals don't work at all, when the screenplay doesn't allow room for guess play. That and the editing between conversation is so poor. Arun Vijay models for suits and watches, Neil Nithin Mukesh probably best showed some work in his reactions. The director forgot half of the work needed for the story he wanted to convey. Happy for someone like Mandira Bedi to be looking more gorgeous than a lot of heroines .Jackie Shroff is wasted, should have worked with Prabhas's character and made it actually badass. This Saaho is so bad but ultimately showcases great action scenes and nothing else.

Had potential, loads. but let's not be harsh here
23 August 2019
I say let's not be harsh like the people with attention span problems are. For that year , it was probably the best horror. Now the director and his gorgeous wife collab on a great setting and story. However the antagonist is quite the pooper the moment he reveals himself, not great with his demeanor lacking menace. He could be a good actor now but this film could have used a wrecked looking fella. Love the struggle bits of Katie trying to outsmart him although some parts seemed to aid her momentary escapes. The cool moments are there but the crucial ones could be excecuted or shot at different angles to enhance the trick up either sleeves of the two. It seemed okay, but big moments should have been created better. Good flick not bad at all.

The Intruder (I) (2019)
5/10
It had potential, a tiny bit that is.
7 August 2019
I'm being generous with a 5/10 only for Dennis Quaid. He's a damn good actor and fit as a fiddle. But his performance couldn't save the film when the Meagan's character is very dumb right from the writer's desk looks like. Ambiance is also ruined by her daftness which makes the hip hop tunes during the sex scenes more laughable. Can't black actors have intercourse without a rom com suited song LOL. Some people can sit through this (fans of Michael and Meagan ) and fans of acting will be very disappointed by the end.

Stay at home please.

STR on the comeback trail it seems. Vain self praising nonsense. Chumma renting bikes, cars for nothing. What's the point of this movie, nothing cohesive ! Sundar C losing his touch , Kalakalapu was his last good Sundar C mix. Hip Hop Tamizha surely gave the job to his friends for the music. Rubbish. Megha Akash is so casual. Varala, suthama varala. Catherine can dance and thats it. Comedy was decent, wait for compilation on YouTube and watch it there.

GARBAGE AND VULGAR, EMBARRASSING.
7 December 2018
Everyone involved in this has zero motives in making a cohesive, entertaining commercial movie. At least Gautham Karthik's adult comedy movie was bearable .All they wanted was to showcase their perversion and how dried up their sex lives are. Pathetic. Vimal get into acting like how you started with realistic roles or just quit. No ambition, no ability, a lazy face on screen only lusting on another poor actor in Ashna Zaveri who came to dress most minimally for her paycheck. If 2.0 was 2018's proudest tamil film, this film is the most trash.

2.0 (2018)

Best execution in VFX, Sets, Action Sequences from India.
4 December 2018
I'm absolutely delighted for all the ideas for 2.0 that Shankar coined were made with some mad level of passion. I wish with every other bad commercial garbage we see these days had half of passion like this. To start with, the visual effects were spectacular, much of the best work went on the winged beast and Akshay's avatars. The VFX was stunning to behold. Respects to Shankar for clinically putting his artists to pen everything perfectly tied to the animation and movements he wanted. BRAVO! Chitti, and his entourage of androids were cleaner than before and the step up was excellent as expected. Amy Jackson as an android ? A parody of how robotic she always is. She had to be there to push some buttons and wire some mechanics. Now for the action, we get it in good folds. Shankar teases us for what's to come in the 2nd half of the film with subtle grandeur in the first half. There's a huge sense of awe in the first half, of the elements that come to play, just art. Then in the 2nd half when it's rapid and loud, all the details don't get missed out purely because the team enforced execution at its best. The chaos that Shankar creates for the masses of crowds and the surroundings is pretty close to a Hollywood gear and oil flick. The city and other minor sets were spot on for the money. Akshay does his character justice and goes manic in dimensions we never see from Indian cinema. One thing i'll say which i felt from Enthiran Dr. Vaseegaran should have been played by someone else, it's almost laughable. I don't mind him in the songs from the first movie, but he just can't really emote. Chitti and 2.0 comes to alive with Rajini but not that dull scientist. Sound design becomes another character, consistent and superb. ARR has also outdone himself giving us another sound score to hold onto for months. Shankar used some science anamolies that is surely exciting in his robot world. We have seen forces in the natural world that are unexplainable and he masterfully mashed it together for his androids to fight against. Well done ! Kids will remember this movie for ages to come. My best comment on Shankar's 2.0, is that you just want to own the best theater systems at home for movies that are honest in designing it's world. Can't imagine watching this just on your plain phones and computers, as fans you are doing the work here a big disservice.

This movie cries to be a perfect one, mostly a good ride.
24 November 2018
I give it a 8/10 if you have understood the involvement of music in this family drama. It is other worldly , why is it ARR's gets his wand out in style on certain directors more than others. The album wholesome is just a level higher than let's say a direct masala film. It's just so addicting and everything is elevated on screen with it. Now for the story itself, we don't get to learn what fed the drama to roll down like an avalanche of hate and action. What this movie cried for is for some backstory of 10 minutes of the father's bias or if he had any upon his boys and how their businesses worked to get the greed going between blood brothers. I say it deserves this narration because then all the rushed scuffles for the throne would have been more fair. Another 10 minutes of some other parts could have been replaced with that. I'm just thinking if the budget had a role in not making this a perfect feud action house movie. The locales for the sons backgrounds were great, all set up for real gloss to the kingdom of crime back in India. 8/10 i give for the assortment of cast, because that's i want from Tamil Cinema to go groundbreaking in casting which actually is a norm in other foreign industries. I take this as a step in the right direction even if the generation of best heroes won't collaborate in this lifetime sadly. I actually will watch this again to look into the framing, blocking and divine lighting of Santosh Sivan. Gosh it's stunning. Most movies look mediocre in cinematography compared to his. Overall CCV doesn't stand close to Mani's other work, but we learned that a banging cast and zippy screenplay bleeds more commercial success. Thus a great thank you for bringing all these actors together producing a decent Mani film. Maybe next time no harm in spending more time on the depth of the harsh world we see and a similar cast to go with it for a great Mani film.

Pretty fun watch, Jennifer Garner is an athlete alright !
23 November 2018
Critics gotta be nicer to this one, wasn't freaking Jason Bourne but not bad at all. It was a straightforward good ride from start to finish in the usual revenge plot. Jennifer shines through ,she's so believable in kicking ass and built like an Olympian i swear. The cops had some cheesy lines that actually didn't make you cringe the way you would expect in another film. The movie had good pacing and it didn't waste time to get Jennifer into her killing spree, she carried the whole movie, set on her mission. Her body language was well directed as not to be a martial art expert but more of an emotional wreck that has a great punch & reflex in her, I wished the baddies was a bit more of a challenge to her but we never get interested in their strengths. And that moustache of the boss , you knew he had it coming. This could kick on to a perfect sequel as nothing was over the top and the canvas is there for the writers. I would love for Jennifer to kill some child predators that'll be just satisfying.
