Hardcore Never Dies (2023)
unfinished and boring
There is nothing new in this film that you haven't seen already... the violence (without redemption though) and the difficult brotherhood / family of American History X, drugs problems as The Story of Christiane F or Berlin Calling. Except, that they are playing hardcore.
I went till the end to get some sense, but it is just overly disappointing too.
I understand that gabbers are appreciating this film because of the music and the outfit... but I think it's the only thing you can enjoy. Unless you are not a gabber, like myself.
I have sympathised with their family and I have found a bit of relief when I could listen Beethoven. I'm sorry, that is music for real.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Loved it
Surely it is a film worth-watching! Of course, it's not a documentary so don't go with the hope to know exactly how the atomic bomb was designed, learn about science or quick course in history... US and Russia were fighting together the nazi, finally someone mentioned... Good touch was to say that the bombs allegedly ended the 2WW. For your information, Japan resigned afterwards when Russia was destroyed and invaded their Army in Manchuria.
The film is indeed quite long and I personally don't appreciate that much. However, the rhythm of the film makes it easier to be engaged for over 3 hrs. The actors were incredible too, a great cast with my beloved Rami Malek.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
terrible
What a waste of time... When I though: ok, it's finished... another 1h30m to go.
Way to long, plot changed all the time, and you're waiting for a big revelation that never arrives. Like the end, so unsatisfying, just a typical sensational-emotional end with no meaning for the whole story.
I'm an atheist so I really don't care how much the Church gets out from this film badly, but the whole story is absurd, enriched with historical lies, false facts and conspiracy theories that surely make happy all the people who do believe in them (hello, covid-19 conspiracy theories...).
And I think it's worth mentioned that it's just too long for no reason. Only Quentin Tarantino can be entrateing for that long.
From Scratch (2022)
Horror more than romantic fiml
I was suggested by friends to watch this as... I'm from Florence and my boyfriend is a chef (but from North of Italy, which is against all of the film clichès). I'd enjoy watching at the first episode, it was romantic albeit unbelievably banal. I hope the "real love in real life" would have started getting real instead it gets more pathetic. I was shocked on how the plot was just a repetition of stereotypes (and my mum was from Sicily so I do know Sicilian), or this soapy fights between lovers, false portrait of a chef life (which are usually works long hours so they do miss one clichè). I thought I would relate for many reasons (family dramas, I'm from Florence, half Sicilian, I moved to the UK, bf is a chef, I want to adopt, cancer runs in my family).... and yet, I found it so FAR AWAY from reality that when I read that is BASED ON A REAL STORY.... I basically skipped the last episode, too boring and made no points at all (after 3 episode I was fast forwarding just with the hope it would get better but no).
Don't Look Up (2021)
brilliant
Although being same US film where they'll save the world, they don't. Russia and China are actually the one who tries and fails (they have more money than US thinks, I believe things won't go that way)... It's adherent description of our society nowadays. Climate warming will kill us all but we're just acting as same as ppl in the film.
