Cat in the Wall (2019)
Realistic
What I realized about half way or more through the movie, was the fact that I forgot that this was movie. The visual style the way this was edited and the narrative made me totally forget this was not a documentary.
I find that a very unique touch and something worth much praise.
The in depth look this movie provides to a working class environment in London, was fascinating. The small details that made us be able to take in the full picture - The windows mishap, the pee in the elevator.
We can really get a felling for what their lives are like and how unfair undeserving people can be treated. That is my main takeaway from this movie. I found it very purposeful and it delivered its message well.
Before Sunset (2004)
The second most fun I've had as a third wheel
Before Sunset exceeded my expectations for a sequel. In my opinion it lives up to its predecessor but with its own unique tone,
with each offering a unique experience that the characters go through in different stages in their lives.
The excitement and youth of the first, stays in that very moment locked away. A moment they refer to often, as maybe their most memorable or fondest night ever shared with another individual, while here in the present, we find a slew of new emotions evolved from the first experience, but now with more mature and worn out individuals, that find themselves going through a similar scenario.
I watch these incredible performances where practically, all they are doing is walking around and catching up, yet I find myself captivated.
When I think about it on a technical aspect, most of the scenes, are shot in one shots. Personally, I can't help but feel as if it's a live performance that was all done in single takes. This footage feels so real to me, more like a play than a movie.
Yet another thing that helped me connect so well with these characters, is the feeling that I've had almost identical conversations or thoughts myself, and to see them be played out feels so personal.
In the end of the movie, we are still left wondering, how does it work out for Celine and Jesse? It ends as ambiguously as the first did, and in a way, it's even more ambiguous if we take in consideration what happened the last time they were in a similar situation.
It really can all boil down to our own outlook on life and love. With everyone having their own experiences and finding themselves at different stages in life.
For now, I consider myself somewhat hopeful. I guess we'll find out in Before Midnight.
Frozen II (2019)
Decent, but not as good as the first.
Basically just a little worse then the first.
Got a little emotionated at the end there, too bad.
I just can't get over the fact that a protagonist in a Disney princess movie doesn't have a love interest. Pretty cool I guess.
Graphics are top notch.
I'm pretty happy that the movie was about preserving the environment.
The point was that they learned how to live alongside nature and not have to put a stop to it to further human development. Humans and nature hand in hand.
Now that's a good message to get across, I just hope more people got it..
No Country for Old Men (2007)
Another beautifully bleak movie by the Coen's.
There may be things I didn't fully get, but one things for sure - Chigurh's a weirdo.
Also, maybe this is wishful thinking but I like to think the wife lived.
Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
Pudding
What a character Barry is.
Sometimes I related to him, other times I found his behavior absurdly funny, and frequently there was pudding.
The soundtrack at first pissed me off and then I realized that was kinda the point, so I embraced it. So the soundtrack is actually great.
I don't know if this was the intentional vibe but I really felt that everything in this movie was so norma. Even when it shouldn't feel that way. Nothing was exaggerated, not even in the action sequences or Barry's fits of rage. Nothing was over the top, even the romantic bits.
It was all just normal in the best way. Kinda unmovie like.
Also the phone calls in this movie are the greatest in film history.
That was fun.
Matchstick Men (2003)
Did not expect to love it this much
Wow. What an experience. As I went in not expecting to gain much, the amount I gained is truly fantastic.
I am a big Nicolas Cage fan, so I really came here to see another one of his generally terrifically flamboyant performances, and I found myself not a bit disappointed.
Now through the first part of the movie, up until the introduction of Alison Lohman's character Angela, it didn't feel like anything too special was happening. Just two con men.
Whatever man.
From that point it became so much more than that. Suddenly this character changed everything in Roy's life.
I found myself thinking- wow I love the dynamics between all of these characters!
Now I don't want to make this too long so i'll say this -
the last 40 minutes of this movie are gold IMO.
There were so many ups and downs I felt myself being surprised again and again. And what a spectacular feeling it is!
After every twist and turn, I thought - this could be it. It could end here. But it didn't, and it still managed not to overstay it's welcome.
As I thought to myself what I would grade this movie, I wasn't sure.
I fluctuated from a 8 star to a 9, but with those last ten minutes and the way it managed to emotionate me, I had no choice but to give it a perfect rating.
Truly loved it.
A Serious Man (2009)
Not very clear for me
Initially I went in to this movie expecting to see a modern day telling of the book of job, and that was really not what I got- for better or for worse.
This movie's only similarity to job is all the bad things that happen to the protagonist.
I did enjoy this movie, but it didn't feel complete to me. The ending scene left me feeling like we were about to read ha the movies climax, and then it just ended, leaving me with no clear message or outcome.
From a comedic perspective it delivered some very funny moments, you can really feel sorry for the guy, I just have a hard time leaving it as we did. Very unsatisfying ending for me, but an otherwise real look at a Jewish American life.
Adaptation. (2002)
Slow start, but gets really good.
Throughout this movie I didn't know what to think. I really didn't. It started slow and I was having a hard time caring for Charlie, but as it progressed it got better. But I wasn't feeling the true genius of this movie till the third act. As we see Charlie finally get his ending, it truly is the best ending, full of twists and turns and things that really changed the way you look at the whole movie.
Nicolas Cage was great. The fact that he was able to play the two main characters is really hard for me to wrap my head around because it actually felt like two different people!
Lots of details I probably missed in this movie, and as it was ending and he was driving away doing his meta voiceover all I could think was: damn, now that I've been to the end I need to go back to the beginning again.
So far this is the second movie of Charlie Kaufman I have seen and his writing is so creative I look forward to see more.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Beautiful heartwarming and wholesome movie!
This movie makes you really put life in to perspective. That's all I'm going to say.
Great message. Really funny at some points, but mostly just the most wholesome movie I've ever seen.
Baby Driver (2017)
Good movie, a little cheese.
This movie was a lot of fun, but still it felt kind of messy.
But there are good things about it- it's soundtrack for instance was great, the way they synchronized some parts was awesome.
The cast is full of well known actors, but some lines I felt were kind of cheesy.
I one of the best things about this movie was the way they weren't afraid to start killing off people in the second half of the film.
Another, is the really entertaining car stunts and chases. That should not be overlooked, as that is the main point of this movie, and they do that excellently.
Now, one thing that really bothered me in this movie, is the way the romance between baby and debora just came out of nowhere. Wasn't developed at all just came to be, and that kind of pissed me off.
That being said it wasn't bad and I had a lot of fun.
Before Sunrise (1995)
The most fun you're gonna have as a third wheel
Durin this whole movie I felt I was honestly not supposed to be there. I was intruding. But even so I had so much fun. I felt all of their emotions so strongly, even laughed with them out loud.
This movie was the most fun I ever had as a third wheel period.
