Another One Person Movie That Kept Me Intrigued
20 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I found the trailer interesting enough to watch and assumed it would be boring. In my view survival movies are extremely hard to do without the right director or actor involved. The premise begins with a refugee crisis in Spain that forces them chose containers to escape their demise. I wondered "have other refugees done this before? Ending with only one survivor out of the handful? I must state the premise was fresh to me, and the main reason I continued to see how the story evolved.

For good reason, one-person movies are hardly done and done well. It takes courage to write, produce, and direct, Moreso, praise for the person who attempts a character who keeps their head together as best they can, while you are feeling their emotional swings. Think Foster in Panic Room. Better, think Hanks in Cast Away. Better yet, Bullock in Gravity inside a space module that slowly loses power. These actors have abundant acting know-how to hold the viewer's interest: either stuck on an island searching for ways to be saved, stuck in a 6 by 8 room looking for precise moments out to acquire her daughter's insulin, and now we can add Castillo floating in a shipping container (with bullet holes for better or worse) adrift at sea clawing her way back to civilization for her baby and herself. This movie should not be missed. Better than I expected.

Looking for something interesting
14 June 2022
When this show was on I couldn't get enough of the stories during the hospitals infancy, medical staff, and medical science. Today I'm flipping through apps looking for anything I can sit with for 3 hours or more. The Knick was one of a kind hospital for lower east side Manhattanites. And so was this show. Still don't understand why cancelled after one year. Someone please bring it back for season 2.

Excellent Story/Show, Hated the Ending
2 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The characters in this show were reaching for a better life, albeit laundrying big cartel drug money, with good intentions once they reached their windfalls. They did whatever was necessary to stay alive. I rooted for those with a big heart wanting more out of life. I even said hooray for those killed off along the way that passed as good Christians with bad intentions. After all was said and done I wanted Ruth and the Byrds to live their dream. The writers wrote enormously well and actors acted their hearts out. There had to be a better ending for the main plot. Somehow I think with all the twists and turns the writers went brain dead in the last 20 minutes.

Depends on your humor hit or miss
28 January 2022
There arent many well written OTA comedies equal to Mom but this comes pretty close because of the great comic timing of renowned cast as main characters. Its first year was decent. 2nd year plot retooled for the better, and jumps with tighter humor. Considering the lite plot around these senior citizens, I have been sucked into it to see the next turn of events and how they handle it as a group in assisted living facility. Each has strong opinions good or bad, wrapped around a heart of gold. Not long ago one character lost his wife to cancer (kudos for the writers keeping the couple together in the facility). As the end neared how friendships were gained/ revealed between these walls, i mourned with them when she past. As i said it will be a hit or miss most likely because humor revolves around a group of elderly people and 2 school friends inching their way into a love relationship.

Love this show
4 October 2021
Been a fan since day one. The humor in front and behind the plot/dialogue is smart. Kudos to writers. I was very happy for the new bride and groom last week and as straight as that plot was there were still moments between all family members that were quite funny.

Ending Leaves You Thinking
11 June 2021
First off everyone involved was on point by conveying their characters thoughts, facial gestures, and lines. Kudos to the writer for this masterful psychological cat and mouse creation. This gives the story a slow moving process but it all works as the story builds up to the last episode that made my eyebrows raise. I wasn't sure if i was left hanging with a i watched this for what, but the ending sat with me. I thought back later to those moments between serial killer James Dornam and Detective Superintendent Gillian Anderson and the supporting characters who were watching their personal relationship unfold over the phone, transcripts and personal journals being read, and observing their interviews. Key words, key comments, key looks, surface as i recalled -- this is a psychological thriller. Read between the lines. The Fall title means many subjective levels as a observer, the interactions of two main characters and how justice or injustice prevails. Wish i knew of this series sooner.

Kidman Pulls it Off
8 December 2020
Although the make up, hair style, and dark clothing helped, all the acting is in Kidman's eyes and body language. I very much enjoyed the plot and watching Kidman pull off a script that is pretty much the focus of her psyche. If you enjoy movies such as Gravity, Secrets In Their Eyes and such, you should enjoy this.

Whatever You Do Don't Leave Your Chair
3 December 2020
I found myself glued to the story with all the twists and turns, cutting from the present to the past back to the present, piecing the story line of how 3 best friends from the police department emotionally handled the brutle death of the one female cops' teenage daughter. The case was never closed, but it does sit with them throughout the years until a photo of the office picknic turns up showing all of them together and an unknown man standing next to the daughter. The cast does top notch acting as you become aware of everything that was/is at stake. This probably deserves 10 stars but I gave it 8 because it does get slow sometimes waiting for the next thing to unravel.

Good Story Line Begins With Good Writers, But Not In This Case
22 November 2020
I watch the first five episodes where the plot was so slow I fell asleep on the remaining episodes. To give it justice, I went back to what I missed. My conclusion is the dialogue writing is terrible most times as the plot thickens(yes it does). This feels more like a day time soap opera in space between the main characters, with plot twists, and the occasional interesting idea that made me curious again to see who or what are these aliens about. The story line about these aliens appears to be written on the fly with the soap opera to fill in the time gaps. The acting isn't the best either but with boring dialogue perhaps they couldnt stay in character. The cliff hanger was good enough to make me check out season 2 episode 1 but if the writing doesn't get better to make me feel something for the love/sex stories in space, don't think I'll make it to episode 3.

The Ellen Burstyn Show (1986–1987)

Always Remembered This Show
18 November 2020
Its been years since aired and always remembered this show. The scene that comes to mind most is of Elaine playing piano tunes for the family but ends up with her singing Nevada Harry. Had a great cast (but always loved Ellen and quick witted Elaine), and the sophistication of the comedy writing was quite good. I believe the reason this show lasted one year is that people didn't get it--this family's give and take. Perhaps too sophisticated the humor. Mom show took me 6 episodes to understand the humor behind that family, and cant stop watching it. I wouldn't have stopped watching Ellen's show either.

This movie has heart and soul because Karen and Jeff make it so
11 February 2020
An unexpected early John Carpenter movie (I finally just learned) with a wonderfully developed, and character development love story between two species. I've lost count how many times I've watched this and never grow tired of it. If it wasn't for Karen and Jeff breathing life into their characters, this could have been the dullest movie ever made. Instead it's unique, heart warming, sensitive, with lots of one liners (from spoiler scenes) that turns it into something deeper during their road trip, and become fugetives as they run from the law.
