Taking Lives (2004)

Okay Thriller
29 March 2006
Angelina Jolie stars as a FBI agent investigating the case of a serial killer who is stealing various identities as he grows older.

The film starts off very well, convincing performances all around keep us glued from the first minute. (mainly waiting to see if Keither Sufferland is actually in it at all!) It keeps you glued however something feels missing through every plot twist and turn, there is nothing new to this genre and cannot be compared to the top charters such as Seven.

This is a worth see movie for a night when there is nothing else on, but it is forgettable and aside from giving you a few smiles wont keep you thinking for to long.

Average Movie 6/10.

Entertaining DVD movie
29 March 2006
After purchasing this DVD I had mixed emotions before putting it into the player. 1. The cast was amazing. 2. This was straight to DVD in the UK.....

However as soon as the movie starts the action starts, the pace never gets left behind and you feel real emotion towards the characters. Edward Furlong is the kind of anti-hero in a sense, bit of a bad ass (then again isn't that what the crow is about?) and he pulls it off big style looking to revenge the foes who took away his true love.

Acting is good all around and the satanists are portrayed as very scary which i'm sure the director was trying to pull off.

Very good movie, my favourite in the franchise...... 7/10.

most gruesome movie ever....no buts its good anyhow!
25 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The main thing I knew about this movie was the hype.....a lot of hype 'the most gruesome movie ever, will make you sick' etc! But in honesty there have been worse. Netherless this movie still has a heart to it, it has characters who are genuine and feel real emotions.

The fact that scares me most about this movie is that places like this torture chamber probably exist in a lot of places, maybe not to such a big extent but its the next step up from a snuff movie anyhow! To be honest it did not seem the right sort of movie for Tarantino as the film on a whole was not up there with the rest of his collection, but fair play to him for giving another director a push and helping him achieve mainstream success.

I liked the fact the lead character has a conscience (wondered why he bought up that story about a little girl drowning half way through) and he risked it all to try save her (which was pointless to a degree, however her killing herself in front of the train allowed him to get on the other train) I also liked the fact the movie never went the way you imagined it i.e you expected him to be re-caught when he re-entered the chamber for the girl.

All in all a decent movie, not a must see, but worthwhile.

7/10.

brilliant Brit flick!
21 March 2006
stunning British movie with an outstanding cast....

The film fills you with sympathy and a real turn of emotions throughout. You feel for the Sergeant as he is risking everything to get the girl but you cant help but think when he is on their land he should be a bit more laid back and approach them differently as he was giving them more and more ammo throughout.

Are the pagans in this movie bad people? Well the obvious answer is yes for the death that is caused (what religion doesn't cause death?) but on the other side of the coin they are not at fault as thy are doing what they believe in on their island, they are happy folk who have positive beliefs and a crime free state, if the Sergeant had been nicer and a bit more open with them perhaps things would have been different? Worth a watch without a doubt! 8/10.

mind blowing....amazing!
21 March 2006
After years of having this DVD in my collection and never getting round to watching it....I'm so glad I made the time and effort to do so! Wow.....is the only word to sum up this movie.

For me ( a guy) its very hard to relate to a female character in a movie as we go through obviously different situations in life. However the alienation Enid feels (even through Rebecca) I can pick up on, no one understands what its like, she has passion and is a dreamer much like myself, she wants more than what the place the resides in offers. I think this film is a perfect social commentary of 75% of 18 - 25 year olds out there. Rebecca also shines as a girl who dreamt her school life away and is very 'older' minded, she wants a house and a job and to get sorted, she is the level headed one of the duo (much like my best friend).

I don't recommend this film...I INSIST you go and pick up a copy....its truly spectacular!

Ace Spoof!
21 March 2006
This movie is perfect for a Sunday chill out or if you fancy a giggle. Mike Myers is Superb!....mostly for DR EVIL! one the greatest villains ever created in my opinion, from his classic quotes to his every mannerism he is just a legend.

Liz Hurley does a great job also as she acts very sexy in a innocent type way and its great to see cameo's from stars such as Christian Slater as like most cameo's....you just don't expect them!

Aside from the fact it can be crude, rude and really a great spoof movie (alot better than the teen movie parody's) there is not much to say aside from it will make you laugh and you can take it lightly....enjoy! 7/10.

Disturbing intense....and worth seeing!
21 March 2006
The atmosphere this film has from the opening scene to the very end is intense to say the least, all the time you can feel praying eyes watching the family, knowing their every move. It brings a whole sense of scary to a new level due to the fact I have never contemplated been stuck in a desert and realising how scary it must be being miles from anywhere....let alone the fact their are radioactive mutants all around! This film has been given its fair share of stick but it keeps you gripped from beginning to end and the characters are really open and you can find pro's and con's and relations in them all. Doug perhaps been the one you look at as the overall hero however they all pull their part and stick to a really tight nit family! I would recommend you viewing this movie.

The Punisher (2004)

Enjoyable
17 February 2006
Having never read the Punisher comics I took a big risk with this movie, I could have turned out loving the character and wanting to buy all the merchandise or just totally turning my back on it. I was actually in the middle, I thought this film was a well acted and directed affair with Jane been fantastic in the punisher role.

The movie is dark and can cause a few upsets but what I find breathtaking about the movie are some of the quotes (I wont spoil them for you, take a watch for yourself) they are quite inspiring, we all lose things and all get upset and to us that thing is a big deal at the time, however other people are always worse off and the film shows sometime we forget that.

Enjoyed the movie and would say its a worth see, better than X men in my point of view anyhow! 7/10.

If you like daft, you will love this....
17 February 2006
For someone who had never watched more than 5 minutes of Monty Python before I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it had me laughing 95% of the way through.

If I'm honest the parrot scene what I had heard so much about didn't crack me up half as much as the others 'mad grannies' 'guide to hiding' 'the giant cat' etc , this maybe because it was supposed to be viewed without the hype and gets you like the other scenes with its randomness.

If you love things like harry enfield, fast show, monkey dust etc then you will love this film as its like a godfather to them all.

I'd totally recommend as a worth see...7/10.

Interesting Insight
17 February 2006
Whoopi Goldberg pulls off another amazing character with this film, she keeps you in full cycle of her role all the way through.

I saw this movie on a movie channel today after been sick off work, it really got me hooked and gave me a good insight of what life was like back then and the big difference of white/black people. I have always been bought up in mixed society and looked at everyone the same but to see this movie and see how people were treated was a real shock to the system.

Direction/acting was all spot on and you really do feel for the cast in a lot of the scenes.

Probably would not recommend this film to everyone, however i would class it as a worth see if you flick past it on the TV.

Best Looking Zombie's
17 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK I picked this movie up with the 'box of the banned' set that was released here in the UK last year, when I was putting it on I was a bit apprehensive thinking it would be a real cheese-fest and I would be laughing a whole lot more than I would find myself in suspense.

That statement however did not turn out true at all, instead I got a movie that really did keep me on the edge of my seat at all times, there is definitely an atmosphere in this movie, a disturbing one at that. There are some classic scenes 'the shark scene' 'infamous eyeball scene' and 'finale' in which you really do feel like your in the movie with the characters.

What I really love about the movie is that it involves grown adults rather than teenagers, I always think this bring more eeriness to movies, maybe because in the last ten years we have had so many 'scream' and ' i know what you did last summer' type movies.

There is a big cast of actors which is good because it brings together lots of story lines and the whole wondering who is going to get the chop (erm bite?) next.

The eyeball scene for me is one of the most uncomfortable scenes in movie history, the squeamish will definitely not like it however certainly does its job! Well directed and OK the acting isn't Oscar-worthy but it sure keeps up to the speed of the movie.

But the best thing about the movie itself.....has to be the Zombies! I had to convince myself they were not real, instead of investing millions in making a 'monster' looking zombie, the zombie's have a real human edge to them, literally like they have just been dug up! In my opinion the best zombie's yet. From the maggots to the blood to the 'crusty' look about themselves.

If you like your horror and zombies then this is defo worth a shout, a real worth see movie.

Stiller + Vaughn = Great Team
16 February 2006
Just from picking the cover of this movie up you can see that this is going to be great, a totally original concept and two of comedy's best actors. This movie was designed for these guys, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrel would not have had the same effect!

I feel a real character relation to Vaughn in this movie, an average guy trying to pay his bills, average confident lad who likes his own time but has plenty of friends, he really sums up the worlds average guy in this movie. His supporting cast in 'average joes' offer something for everyone also, its great they vary in age, appealing to all generations to watch rather than just teens.

Stiller is great in showing that when people make a big change like his character does, it is not necessarily a good thing and can turn you into a bad person, like for instance someone might become famous and turn into a complete jerk and think they are gods gift, but evil always gets its come uppance in the end......

Overall a great movie and I would say it is one of comedy's must see's!

Shark Tale (2004)

Good Family movie
16 February 2006
After the amount of criticism this movie received by critics/film fans alike I was pretty reluctant to sit down and watch this movie which is pretty unlike me seeing as I generally don't go on other peoples opinion. However I'm glad I stuck to my guns as this film really took me on a ride of laughs and emotions.

To start with looking at a cast which includes Will Smith, Robert De Nero and Jack Black you would have to be a really bad scriptwriter to make these guys mess up. The animation is superb and the hidden story lines/jokes make a truly intriguing story.

This film cant be compared to Finding Nemo due to the fact the films are totally different aside from the fact they are both underwater (it has more in common with spongebob than it does Nemo!) A sign of a good movie is when time flies and the film is in the closing credits before you know it, and thats what this film delivered to me, i felt good at the end of it and I would without a doubt watch it again.

'Oscar' is a character a lot of people may relate to, he is in a dead end job, wants to be a character and make people laugh and dreams of living in a far off land getting everything he wants, the film takes us on the ride of what it is like to get it all, and shows its not all we imagine it to be, the rich can be upset to, and again be dreamers, this time of the life they had left behind.

Totally worthy of a 'worth see' movie.

Excellent Direction in true suspense horror
16 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Wow.....this film pushed boundaries, yes it showed things in a brutal way we might be scared of and realities we don't like to think of, but the important factor of the film is, how horrible rape and violence is and how it can overcome anyone, how people can get carried away, how spur of the moment decision's that you may forget after a day or two can effect the cause of your life.

The director does a brilliant job of making the characters as normal as possible, not giving the 'bad guys' a real bad guy edge or 'the heroine' a real heroine feel. He makes everyone appear normal to make the whole damn thing that bit scarier. This works to great effect.

The scariest part of the film for me is the eerie sound of the harmonica as a rape approaches, it keeps you on tenterhooks for sure. Matthew is a gullible guy who just wants friends and in a way wants the best for everyone without saying no to anyone which inervertivly leads him to trouble and rightfully so, it displays that you cant get away doing what others want you to do, it doesn't work for anyone.

The rape obviously changes Jenny and instead of shooting them all like she could do, she leads them all to a false sense of security then killing when they are at their most vulnerable....perfect revenge perhaps? The sort she could not have achieved for ringing the cops or shooting them all quick.

When looking to see what other films the actors/actresses have been in i was surprised to see none of them have done anything, acting as well as direction was perfect in this film as the budget was enough to display real life events not wasting $12 million on a 'jeepers creepers' monster that doesn't delivery half the scare.

Overall I would say a worth see movie due to the fact you can see how horrible it is to be caught up in such situation and spare a thought for victims who didn't survive unlike Jenny.

Good British Fun
16 February 2006
Searching through the movies on 'Sky' when I was off work with flu, I stumbled across the film 'five children and it', when I was a young kid i Remember watching a program of the same name on 'BBC' and really loving it, so in an effort to restore past childhood memories (or potentially risk damaging them) i decided to give the new adaptation a go.

It got me gripped from beginning to end and I could not believe this had not been 'in my face' more with advertising and marketing schemes, this has the feel of a real good old classic BBC children's drama that you would find on a Saturday afternoon and leaves you with a real good feel good factor.

The cast is a really good choice with not a sniff of bad acting and plenty of great script work with funny, emotional and sometimes hysterical pieces of dialogue. 'Kenneth Brannagh' for me leads the cast as the professor, really funny and keeps a smile on your face. The children are all equally good, putting in excellent roles and not looking lost for a minute.....you would think they are a real family! Eddie Izard is a real gem though, giving him the role of the psamiead with a dodgy accent at first gives you the impression you are about to be disappointed but I could never have been further wrong, he has an amazing role and keeps the punchlines coming and coming.

Overall I am a 21 year old guy and found this film to be a real treasure and would certainly tell my own kids one day to watch. I still think it is criminal that the film didn't do better than it did.

a real worth see.

Biggest surprise
16 February 2006
I was at my girlfriends with no movies she wanted to watch except a couple of video's brassed off, notting hill and Charlie's angels.....the latter two i always believed to be chick flicks and not really up my end of the street. Eventually we decided on putting Charlie's angels on...and i got ready for a couple hours kip......was i wrong! From the off a quirky joke keeps you amused and action starts straight away, now the greatest thing about this film aside from the supporting cast of actors, is the directors vision that people would see the film as 'cheesy' so the film has a tongue in cheek look to it where you can laugh with the director rather than at him.

To refer back to my earlier statement about the supporting cast....it is fantastic, the biggest of them all being the legend 'Bill Murray' who plays Bosley and he never fails to bring a smile or make you laugh. 'Tom Green' is at his usual clownish self (i'm convinced he writes his own script lines?) and 'Matt LeBlanc' is natural playing an actor (like his role in friends so he has had enough practise) and boyfriend to 'Lucy Liu'. The girls themselves are fantastic and all look a bunch of fun to be around, 'Cameron Diaz' has innocent sex appeal while Drew and Lucy have kick ass sex appeal. so there is something for everyone! This is not a film that could have been done without a great director and amazing cast, having a bunch of nobodies would have looked the wrong sort of cheesy and not appealed to anyone, but to see your favourite Hollywood superstars having a laugh and plenty of fun is worth watching alone, this is not a must see, but defo a worth see if nothing else is on.........
